last night after dinner (leftover enchiladas) we were playing records and i thought the living room looked quite lovely.
earlier in the day i had brought in one of my orchids that is so kindly getting ready to bloom again.
the striped dash and albert rug is rolled up and put away as it seems so summery to me. the little seagrass is keeping the floor from being destroyed so it will have to do for now.
i've never photographed this room at night and now i know why.
the lighting is hard to get right.
even though the light seems rather harsh in the photo it was really more of a soft glow and kinda romantic.
listening to patsy cline doesn't hurt either.:)
what a voice. wow.
have a simply beautiful day.

IMHO the only thing harder than shooting a room at night is shooting a lit Christmas tree. It looks pretty though.
ReplyDeleteLove your record player!
Love my turntable.

I wish I lived in your house - it's so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteReally nice....
ReplyDeleteI never tire of your living room.
ReplyDeleteI will now reveal a personal secret. I often eat on my couch. How do you keep yours so pristine?
I have always wanted to say this....but have resisted because there are very few negative comments on your blog......
ReplyDeletebut, your curtains need to be hung "higher and wider". I realize that the curtains might be too short to do this..but better to have them just touch the floor and not have the puddle, than to have them hung so low. Same story in your bedroom.
Your living room is gorgeous. I love the curtains and the seagrass.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs of a lovely room. Love that the inside of the armoire is painted red.
ReplyDeleteI love your home and patsy! perfect friday night :)
ReplyDeleteHow romantic indeed ... listening to records on the turntable. That's awesome. It's the simple things in life that are most enjoyable.

beautiful! yes, it is so hard to capture that soft wonderful glow in our rooms at night when we are alive and happy in them. but i get it!
ReplyDeleteyes, the simple life...you are sooo right about how wonderful it really was to be a student in paris, but you know, all i really wanted to do was go to a nice restaurant. but funny how we don't appreciate it as much now that we "can"...
:)

Looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteA very restful room. I agree there will never be another voice like Patsy Cline.
ReplyDeletePatsy and her "I Fall to Pieces" - such a classic. Your room is so cozy and inviting, and painting the interior of the armoire red is a lovely touch that you created. You are slways inspiring!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks beautiful:)

You know what I think is cool? The old-fashioned turntable right there in the same scene with the laptop computer. The best of old and new. Your room is lovely, just perfect. My husband has a whole bunch of "vinyl" but no working turntable. I think I just figured out the perfect Christmas gift for him! Thanks for sharing the beauty of your simple Friday night Janet...~Lina~
ReplyDeleteSeeing the photos I immediately envied you: a Friday evening at home and no laptop but books to read. Until I saw that black thing next to the books. Still, I "see" you reading on that sofa, in books, not on a screen. :-)
ReplyDeleteOff Topic: Today I bought rice-"milk". I am starting to look for a milk-substitute and I won't go for soy since there is too much gen-manipulated soy growing on our planet.
You were a big inspiration in my "farewell-to-milk"-project.
Oh Janet I am so excited to see your room at night...
ReplyDeleteit looks light and airy but with a bit more of a glow from within.
We have our new slip covered love seats in place and I am enjoying our family room so much more but have tried to capture the look on camera and have not found the right light yet.
You have such a wonderful eye for detail.
Looks cozy and comfortable. Love the new ottoman.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet, I love Patsy Cline. I feel in love with her when I was 10 years old visiting my grandfather in Iowa. I woke to the sound of her voice and I was hooked. Isn't it odd to find that photographs sometimes won't capture a moment on film? Love the curtains!
ReplyDeleteoh patsy takes me back too. when i hear her voice i'm transported to being about 8 yrs old listening to it as it was always on in the background of my life.
DeleteI have been a follower for a few months now....LOVE everything about you, your house/decor, your lifestyle and taste in fashion. Always look forward to checking in and have to admit that I am disappointed with there is not a daily update (I do undertand life does get in the way of blogging).
ReplyDeleteYour living room looks beautiful! Thank you for sharing. And, by the way, I love Patsy Cline.

I love photos of your home and garden/flowers. Your living room is perfect. It is rather romantic, I'd say. Have a beautiful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so homey and comfortable!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeletejanet, it looks so pretty. And I think the fact that you're sitting with your husband in a cozy living room listening to records is very romantic. You're keeping the dream alive sister. Glad you're having such luck with that orchid. this will be the third bloom right?
ReplyDeleteYou captured the light and mood beautifully, the scene draws me right in.
ReplyDeleteYour living room glows, not harsh at all. And Patsy Cline's "You Belong to Me" still transports me back to high school and every crush I ever had.
ReplyDeleteI really love your home Janet. So peaceful and calm and soothing xxx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful house, I think that will inspire a post of my blog.

I've always loved Patsy's Crazy. This looks a lovely place to spend time.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your food and your home....I think I want your life! Makes me think: I need to take time to write about and photograph my life as if it were fabulous, because it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting via the Hostess of the Humble Bungalow. What a sweet room!
ReplyDeleteI cam over from the Hostess ~ what a charming room. Lovely
