this past weekend i did something i hadn't done in a long time...paint.
i've been wanting to do this for a long time but recently verizon upgraded our internet package that previously only included high speed internet and a home phone. they added basic cable to our service and we are now actually paying less than what we were paying before.
in reality this just means we will now get to watch monday night football.:)
so i thought i could improve our tv watching spot by painting the inside of the armoire.
people don't really like armoire's any longer do they? they like the tv to be out in the open but i still like mine hidden.
i used martha stewarts "maine lobster"
bam.
it's like a little surprise when i open the doors now.
in other news...this weekend we will be going to new york city.
i'm so excited even though it is supposed to be raining the entire time we are there.
i hope to pack everything i need into my weekender.
i'll let you know how it goes.
also, i'm planning on taking lots of pictures to share with you guys when i get back next week.
until then have a fabulous life wouldya?
yayyy ajj!
ReplyDeletei like it. and your trip to ny? can't wait for
the pictures.
be safe. have a wonderful time.
i know you will!
you added color? who knew? (looks great.)
ReplyDeletewhat cha got going on in the city? donna
i know right, who knew?
Deletemass at st. patricks, walk the brooklyn bridge, the frick, top of the rock, harlem to see the royal tenebaums house, radio city music hall to see jack white. :)))
ahhh, I see jack white's involved. gal will travel for him, huh? have a great time!
Deletei love the unexpected red ~ like the pretty lining in a coat.
ReplyDeleteour tv is hidden in an armoire, too.
we only use ours for movie night - we don't even have cable : )
i would rather get rid of it than mount it on the wall.
Hi Janet, that's a lovely idea, it looks good. Have a great time in New York, safe travels!
ReplyDeleteIn a white room it really pops whatever gave you the idea?
ReplyDeletejust that we would probably be watching more tv.
DeleteI still like tv armoire's, too. Yours looks terrific in the living room. The unexpected red interior is a fun change. I am all for traveling with one carry on. Lugging around a lot of stuff takes the fun right out of traveling. Have a blast in NYC!
ReplyDeletelove love the red! we still hide our tv in our armoire...i like it that way :)
ReplyDeleteYou're going this weekend have a great time! Which raincoat are you bringing?
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you. Please take pictures of the Royal Tenenbaum house. More Jack White! My goodness!
Safe travels my friend.
xo
i'm bringing the j. crew icon trench of course!
Deletethanks dani.
Have a great weekend! Lovely paint job!
ReplyDelete"Maine Lobster" in the TV cabinet looks very snappy in your living room. So festive.
ReplyDeleteWhile flat screens have improved the look of televisions immensely, I, too, prefer them in a cabinet. In addition to the aesthetics of an attractive cabinet, opening and closing the cabinet doors creates a ritual for TV watching.
Have a wonderful time in New York.
KO
As a native NY girl I KNOW you will have a great time-that city has so much to offer :)
ReplyDeleteHave a slice of real pizza, an egg cream and a black and white cookie for me, ok?
We were there last year at this time...in time for hurricane Irene! We had some fun adventures becasue of her-including missing Book of Mormon ( GRRRRRRR). It was still fun, though. Love NYC.
As a Jack fan, make sure you see this documentary if you haven't already-"It Might Get Loud"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1229360/
i have seen it a few times. thanks susan.
DeleteI'd love an armoire or even a knackered old retro wardrobe to hide away our TV. I've been looking for ages! Yours looks brilliant, love that vibrant red! Have a fabulous time in NYC, rock out and give Jack a wave from me, will ya? xxxxxx
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Janet. I think you have a love/hate thing going on with red :)
ReplyDeleteS
xo
you've noticed?!
DeleteLove it! That's the perfect place to put a little color. It's just like the wallpaper in your closet.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time! Don't do anything I wouldn't do.
Whoa, that really was a surprise! Totally unexpected, but it looks great.
ReplyDeleteLike some of the others, I too prefer the TV hidden. Love that shade of red, really pops in the room. Enjoy NYC!
ReplyDeleteTelevisions should be out of sight when they are turned off in the viewing room and they should never permitted in the bedroom. I like the rich red color, good choice with the dark wood.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in NYC.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteA month or so ago I saved your blog to my "favorites". I hadn't checked in on you in awhile and came back today. I just have to tell you that I love your blog, but especially the pictures of your home! I could actually feel my heart beat slow down just looking at the beautiful pictures of your living room. I could just imagine sitting there quietly and at peace! Thank you so much for having this blog!
Carol
aren't you clever! I do wish I had an armoire to paint the inside of...I can't seem to find one to fit our tv. I feel like I have a big black hole on my wall, it's truly ugly. So, I'll just stare at how pretty yours is. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time in NYC! Since Jack will be there, I'm sure no amount of rain will ruin that evening.
XOXO
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I love reading about your house and clothing choices. You are an inspiration!! I am on my way to NYC tomorrow as well. Have fun!
Sarah
I love the pop of colour! It is so unexpected and wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI always feel so peaceful when I look at your house!
So happy you are going to NYC! I love it there and cannot wait to go again!
Love the red and love nyc. Never have been in the fall. Have a blast. Cant wait to see the pictures.
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, yes--that red does wonders!
ReplyDeleteare you going to share the contents of your weekend bag? Curious readers want to know!!
have a fun and safe time in the big apple!
Absolutely astonishing. More awesome than 90% of professional decor shoots. Fabulous. Did I say astonishing?
ReplyDeleteIt totally makes the room. Great pop of color.
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Now, pop on over and come see me- I'm only 4.5 hours from NYC!! Have a fabulous time!
ReplyDeletexxj.
This room is so damned beautiful...I have been back to look at this post over and over and I can't figure out exactly why this simply gorgeous room makes me feel so happy. Everything works together so perfectly and it's so perfectly calming. I want one. I have an urge to copy, but since all I have out of this is the hardwood floor, it would be a little tough. Now I wish I hadn't sold my armoire....
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in NYC.
Like you, I still prefer the tv to be hidden, and I love that gorgeous red! Your house is perfection, I never get tired of seeing it. Hope your NYC adventures are wonderful, can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteThe pop of red is great!
ReplyDeleteBe sure to dine at Candle 79. Not only is it vegan, it is FABULOUS!-get reservations-small place.
Another good place is Angelica Kitchen. It's old school.
Grab a vegan cupcake at Baby Cakes.
So jealous you will be seeing JW at Radio City Music Hall.
Have a Ball and Biscuit Janet!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the recommendations emily.
Deletei will have a ball and a biscuit and i'll take my sweet little time.:)
xo
I love the red! And I was just in NYC LAST weekend! Have a great time! And wow, that is a lot of exclamation points I just did, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteJack White! I hope you've packed your fan as I suspect there will be some swooning involved!
ReplyDeleteJust to let you in on a secret I covet that armoire and wish our Tv were hidden and on my list of improvements to our sad looking family room are slip covered love seats in off white...a nod to your inviting and cozy abode.
Have a fabulous time in NY!
I love what you did, looks beautiful and unexpected, what a great job!!!! Have a wonderful time in NYC!!! Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing Janet and enjoy your time in NYC.. oh and do let us know what you pack... I love your posts about what you take away! X
ReplyDeleteYour armoire looks great, Janet! Love the color. Have fun in NYC. Love that too!
ReplyDeleteDeborah
I love it...It really is like a little hidden treasure when you open the door and see red...and what a perfect name, "Maine Lobster." Your room looks so wonderful with the light streaming in...My sister is coming for the weekend so I have been looking at the weather as well...it looks like Saturday will sunny and at least it's warm. Oh and the leaves have just started to turn....it will look and feel like autumn! Enjoy!! I can't wait to see your NY posts!

Ah, NYC in the fall. Lucky you! I have an armoir almost exactly like that--it is in our bedroom and holds a TV there. I love the idea of painting the inside...I think green or blue would work in my room. I too like a hidden TV but unfortunately that is not the case in our family room.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with your armoire...and I am not one of those that prefer their T.V. out in the open, especially because our main T.V. is in the living room. We just bought a beautiful armoire 3 years ago that I love, that houses all our entertainment equipment.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time in New York!

I love your home... because of you I am looking for a white slip-covered sofa for my living room. White, because our furball, Tencents, is white and sheds a lot :) we have a PB here in Calgary so I might check it out...we also have Montauk furniture in Calgary. All the furniture is made in Montreal and they have a more contemporary-style version of a sofa like you have so I am tempted. Very expensive but well made, in Canada :) I noticed the PB slip-covers are made out of very sturdy fabric so that would also be an option and they have a contemporary style sofa as well. Happy weekend friend!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo, I LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time in NYC and stay dry.
Camille
Looks utterly gorgeous and you're right - the colour is so unexpected and yet so right. We have the TV hidden away in the rec room and I don't allow one in the kitchen. The sound of it just depresses me...
ReplyDeleteLove the Lobster at your house! I have a similar armoir and have contemplated the same upgrade but now I am positively inspired! You took the risk and I will reap the reward. Have a fab trip!!
ReplyDeleteDidn't you return? Where the hell ate the pictures?
ReplyDeleteLoooove the paint job.
xo J.
Looks beautiful Janet, and love the name - Maine Lobster - too!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in NY. Do post some pix. It's my favourite city.
