the secret to a long and happy life

joshua tree last saturday morning

i saw this video on the beautiful blog raining sheep.
it is so soothing to watch that i just had to share it.

if you need your blood pressure to be lowered while at the same time being inspired, then i suggest you sit back and enjoy, it's only 4 minutes long.
i am utterly captivated by this woman's grace, beauty and way of life.

secrets to a long and happy life

do you have a secret to a long and happy life?

  1. Oh, I loved it Janet. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Absolutely beautiful. I know that in yoga we are not supposed to compare our ability to other yoginis, but her movements are fluid and more graceful than those of many younger practitioners. Thank you for sharing this.

  3. Lovely. And inspiring.

  4. Very inspiring...I too am captivated. Such grace and beauty and peace. Love the Joshua Tree picture. My daughter-in-law grew up in Twentynine Palms...the desert has such a unique, stark beauty especially in comparison to the lush, coastal beauty of Santa Barbara County, where I live. There is something about the desert though...

  5. I am so relaxed now. Thank you.

  6. I saw this video several months ago and she took my breath away. She is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had one ounce of her grace.

  7. Proof of eternal beauty and grace... I wish I could have seen Maia dance. Can you even imagine? x

  8. i somehow found this tiny film about a year ago. and then i lost it.
couldn't remember anything about it other than i was enchanted.
thank you so much for bringing it back into my life!
now i know i can visit maia often. she is simply wonderful.

    and... ajj ...
i have started a blog! i've only posted about 6 times now. i know daily
might not last. but right now am just doing what i do in my journals, only online.
and i am technically scared! i'm a tekki-illiterate. and i want to learn to do pictures!
it really is so much fun. and you feel such a sense of community. that's what i like.
i took pre-liberty in listing you as a favorite blog friend
(without asking first.) but i thought you being you, probably wouldn't mind!
i love your blog. it renews my soul.
if you care to visit my new toy ... it's
sorry to talk about this on your site, but didn't have any other way to reach you!
    love and a bear hug,
    tammy j

  9. Haven't even watched the video. Calm already increased by your photo:). I have a picture of myself, holding my baby son, in a similar spot. It was a cold, cold day, we are bundled up. Something about the desert clears a space.

    xoxo to you Janet.

  10. Thanks Janet. And thanks to the link to a lovely blog.

  11. Maia is just beautiful! What an inspiration.

  12. Thanks for this.
I'm from Queens, Long Island-and Fire Island was our destination many, many day as I grew up :) Great to see a slice of it in this film.

My daughter is also a dancer-and their relationship with their body/breath is second to none.
If we taught ballet/pilates/yoga in school along with reading and math, we'd all be better off in the long run. My yoga practice is still done in fits and starts, but it is progressing.

One "secret" to a long and happy life is being born to great parents who have amazing DNA :)
The rest is then up to the individual!

  13. Beautiful video and I love the photo of you on the rocks at Joshua Tree, I yearn to revisit the park very soon.

  14. What an interesting woman - how I'd love to meet her. And such a lovely blog, Raining Sheep. I am adding it to my list of favorites! Thanks for sharing.

  15. Gorgeous pic of you Janet and what a wonderful short film - a truly remarkable lady.... thank you.

  16. Thanks for sharing... lovely.

  17. That was exquisite, Janet, thanks for posting it.

    1. It’s just a superb video!! Loved it!! Very inspiring too!!

  18. Hi Janet -

I've been reading for some time but have never posted before. I love your blog and think you are delightful! Were you by any chance at the yoga/chanting festival that took place at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center this last weekend? I was there, and it was wonderful. Your picture got me thinking that perhaps you were there, too.

  19. Hi Janet,

Love the new look to the blog. So simple and chic.
I'm still working through finding out the secret to a long and happy life -- that's what it's all about right? :)

  20. Janet - God Bless - had a long day and this was just the tonic I needed!

  21. Janet,
It's that busy time of day when kids are coming and going and I sat down with a cup of tea to see if you had a new post. Thank you for that four minute peaceful... just as you look on that rock at Joshua Tree. Sometimes we all need a little reminder to take it a little slower...and of course be you often say.

  22. Love this..wish i had someone in my life like this.

  23. What a beautiful video! Thank you so much for sharing.

  24. Gorgeous. Thanks for the link to such inspiration Janet.

  25. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am getting ready to start a very stressful day and it is just what I needed.

  26. I love your J Tree photo. The high desert re-centers me like nowhere else. My life changed completely the first time I went to J Tree. Now I live very far away and am yearning to spend a week in a tent in the high desert, listening to the coyotes howl at night.

  27. Your blog is beautiful. I love its spirit. We seem to share some similar traits ! I will keep coming here.
    have a nice day !

  28. my secret is to find joy in the little things.
reading your blog happens to be one of those little things.
my parents are 85 and always finding joy.
I think that is indeed the secret.
    love that video-

  29. That film is a delight to watch, imagine what a wise woman Maia must be...
I'd say gratitude is very empowering and savouring joy in the simple things of everyday life.
    Thanks for sharing this Janet!

  30. Beautiful video, gets life, work, etc in perspective. She clearly shows the life she has led!

  31. Thank you for sharing...beautiful and inspiring!

  32. I really needed to see this tonight. My life is busy and chaotic, and will be more so before it's less. We are trying so hard to simplify, but it will take work (preparing houses for sale) and money (paying for said preparations). I've bookmarked this video to use as a reminder of why we're doing all this, and what the goal is.

    Thanks for sharing.

kindness is never out of style.
