lunch in a pinch*

While the towel situation persists, I've found a lunch that works.

Crispy French Fries and Ice Cold Beer

8 grams of protein
6 grams of fiber
approximately 700 calories

*no animals were harmed in the making of this lunch

  2. You could scatter garbanzo beans over for a hit of protein?!

  3. It looks like paradise. Blue skies, fries, beer and ketchup. You must be at Nelsons.

  4. steve - you would be correct! all the restaurants here serve the same fries but in a different presentation. at the restaurant by the pool the same fries come wrapped in parchment paper in a big silver cup. but then there are screaming kids around. nelson's hugs the cliff and it's quiet, except for the occassional drunken outburst. but i've done a good job keeping larry quiet.

  6. Ahh the good old standby..hot chips and tomato sauce (thats what we call this culinary delight over here).
Washed down with a nice cold beer. Bliss.

  8. I wonder if they hang the towels out in the sun to dry?
That might explain their lack of softness...as far as lunch in a pinch...that is classic pub grub here!

  9. French fries are the one food I'm pretty sure I could never get tired of:)

  10. HI!!!
Sorry, this struck me as so funny! That beautiful resort and you're eating bar food! Glad you found something though and hope everything else is just perfect - sounds like a wonderful afternoon the other day. I'm happy for that.
You're a doll...I got the book and I LOVE the pretty cards. I'm going to frame them.
Enjoy the rest of your stay - talk soon.

  11. I thought those were french fries on my side bar. Glad you are having a nice time and view and damn the food situation. Yes, I thought all of Cali was vegan friendlier. I owe you an email. xo Terri

  12. You're so funny Janet (Larry's drunken outburst). Hot chips and a cold beer, that spells holiday pub lunch to me. C'est parfait.

  13. That's great! Good to know--now I'm wondering if I was a vegan in college and didn't even know it?......

  14. I'm surprised that you're having such a hard time finding good vegan food, too. My vegan daughter falls back on the same thing (french fries!) when she can't find vegan. Hope you're having fun anyway!

  15. Hi Janet,
Those look tasty! I (don't tell anyone) actually made some of those tasties the other day (they were organic ones you bake) and I have to say, they're dangerously good!
So sorry about the lack of vegan restaurants there! One of my favorite vegan spots in the LA area is Real Food Daily. Have you ever been? http://www.realfood.com/

  16. Hi Janet,

It does seem odd that in Southern Cal you would have such difficulties finding vegan cuisine. That is a drag...at least you are being creative!

Funny how when our kids are grown we become less tolerant of other people's kids. I know I am anyway! (especially in restaurants!) But I tend to blame the parents...:)

  17. Oops...sorry I missed the part you said the kids were in the pool. Sometimes I read too fast.

We used to have a neighbor a couple doors down who not only would let his kids scream in the pool but on occasion would let them blow a whistle. Real lovely when you wanted to work in the yard.

  18. amanda - yes, they are screaming in the pool and we are less tolerant of little kids in general, except our grandaughter, she's perfect of course!

  19. Janet,

    I've been eating my veggies!

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    Lovely weekend to you,

  20. bad news about the towels, I would go and buy me some!!!! and I wouldn´t imagine you eating french fries, really!!!
I have something to say: someone once ask me, about being vegetarian, if I ever heard the scream of a tomato when being cut...it gave me lots to think about... (hoping not to be nasty...)

  23. Here's the thing Janet- You are approaching the towel debacle in the wrong way...
Just tell yourself you are saving $$ on the full body exfoliation treatment, and therefore, can indulge in one extra massage.

    Pass me a fry (frie?)

    ReplyDelete
  24. slim - yes that is quite an exfoliation. i can't bring myself to go in the spa though, reminds me too much of work. all those fake smiles.

  25. Who knew I was a vegan when I pull through Mickey D's at 3 PM and order fries and a leaded coke with extra sugar on the side, which I order wearing my fake smile : )
