yard sale chinoiserie chairs

Right before I left for Europe my friend M saw these chairs at a yardsale and knowing I  was looking for kitchen chairs, she called me immediately.
They were $10 for the pair.  The pair.

Love the detail on the backs

The vinyl seats had some issues but what a steal they were.

I ordered a yard of this Robert Allen fabric.
Crystal Lake

A gal at the fabric store made the seat covers for me for $10 each.
Again, such a steal.

And here they are finished...

I washed the fabric before they were sewn so they'll be easy to clean.
I haven't even gotten around to freshening up the paint on the chairs yet.

I will as soon as I'm done with the office.
The painting is done and I love the navy color!
I'm still working on hanging the pictures and other little details.
Hopefully I'll be able to post pictures soon.

Have a really nice one.

  8. Perfection!!!!

I am starting to become just a little bit envious of the vintage clothing and furniture selection in your area...

But it's your impeccable style that sees all the possibilities, isn't it?!

    1. Not to worry Betty. I love those stools too. They'll be great to have for extra seating when we need it. But it's gonna be nice to sit on something softer and with back support now.

  16. Oh Janet! Those are just gorgeous...they look perfect in your kitchen, love the red in there. I snagged a Chinoiserie chair at a garage sale last fall in perfect condition for $20 and I thought that was a great deal! I only wish they had two for sale. You really scored this time. How nice of your friend to tell you about them!

  17. How fun to see your chairs..... as they are my chairs also!

We have been married for 46 years, and somewhere along the way... probably at least thirty years ago.... we bought the table and 4 chairs for our kitchen. We enjoyed the set for many years, then put it in the attic when we purchased another table and chairs for our kitchen.

About 12 years ago, the set came back out... we took the original top off of the table and replaced it with a heavy glass top. I reupholstered the chairs and they went to live in my daughter's new home. When her baby became a toddler, she didn't want the glass top table, so back in the attic it went.

About 4 years ago we added a screened in porch onto our home. Out came the chairs and table. Once again, I reupholstered the chairs and we have been enjoying our table and chairs for the last several years.

So glad you got a real bargain and are enjoying your purchase. It was fun to see the original material after all these years. I love the fabric you chose!!

    2. No.... how did I miss it?! I will have Dan start on the stone bench tomorrow;)

I'm thinking since you are professionally trained you are a much more neat and tidy cook than I am. I make a huge mess when cooking;)

    3. oh haha, you meant where i prep for cooking? duh. all i can say is that i make do with what i've got. and believe me i'm not complaining, although this kitchen has the strangest layout for cooking, it is by far the favorite kitchen i've ever had the pleasure to cook in.

ok, so onto the stone bench. when we were at petersham nurseries and attending a lecture from the head florist there, the one question he asked us was if was saw vita's stone bench. he said he loved it so much he was going to recreate it. so i guess it's pretty famous.

right away i thought of you and all the gorgeous stone on your property. xo

  23. someone may have already mentioned this in the comments. . . when i re-covered my dining room chairs, my local fabric store told me to use "tent spray" or waterproofing spray (i found it in the camping section of walmart) and spray the fabric before use. i did, and it's amazing how a spilled liquid will bead up on the fabric, and not soak in! i just did my deck and used it on all our new pillows and seat cushions. beautiful chairs! i wish i could find a deal like that!
