So maybe someone is interested in what my garden is doing right now.
It's so hard to show these pictures after all the gorgeous English gardens I've shown.
But it is what it is.
I took these top 2 pictures the day I left on my trip which was way back in May.
I thought I was going to miss the hydrangeas blooming.
But I was way wrong...they are still going at it.
remind me to level out that birdbath.
Actually the whole garden is doing well especially considering the heat we've been having.
I went to a yard sale a couple of weeks ago and saw this victorian chaise.
I didn't inquire as to the price b/c I had just gotten home and I knew it was probably too expensive.
But I as I was driving by the house the next day, I saw the chaise off to the corner in the front yard.
I pulled over and knocked on the door. It's the same house that I bought the mirror frame that hangs over my sofa, remember that?
Anyway, the sweet woman said no one had bought it and that I could have it.
She needed to get rid of it...so I obliged.
Isn't it beautiful?
Isn't it beautiful?
I'm getting a second production of the *Janet* rose right now which is really looking up from last year. I'm pretty sure it is a David Austin rose.
So while it's no English garden, I'm fairly content.

I just discovered her blog a week or so ago and I love it too!
ReplyDeleteSomeone had shared it on Facebook and I've been telling everyone about it.
She's hilarious and I love her taste!
That chaise was definitely meant to be. :)
Your garden is just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love your little garden way the best.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is my favorite! and I am so envious of the wicker chaise lounge, I'm beside myself ;) Sorry I haven't been in touch the last few months - big things happening on the business front. I'll email you in a couple of weeks. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Miranda

My dear Janet, I have always thought of your garden as an English Garden. I love the combination of your flowers, and would love a list of all of the different kinds. The chaise fits perfectly with your home and style. It was meant for you :)
ReplyDeleteI love your garden and I think it has that English Country Garden feel...
ReplyDeletevery much in keeping with the era of your home.
That chaise is a great piece and lucky for you no one else saw it's beauty.
I once hauled home a loveseat that I found on the boulevard and painted it green to match our house...it was lovely to sit on for many years and finally it collapsed under the weight of a heavy guest...and we quickly put it out on the boulevard in front of our house with a free sign and it was gone by sunrise!
Love your garden. And that chaise! So lucky.

Man, I NEVER have yard sales with stuff like that chaise; you are living right to have that kind of luck! And your garden is lovely. The heat killed my hydrangea but at my mom's house, hers is doing well in north light; it wants so much to be blue but it's the pinky-blue. Yeah, it's hot, though. SO HOT. I saw a deer at 11am today, broad daylight obviously, in the middle of a road between two orchards; a busy road. They are so hungry and thirsty because the hills are tinder-crisp; it's not just wildfire threat in the drought but wildLIFE threat because they are starving for water and food. The poor thing seemed dazed but it was breathtaking; how can anybody ever shoot one?
ReplyDeleteThat chaise is amazing! What a lucky find....and free! Wow! I'll go check out the blog....
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks just right. I love it the best too.
ReplyDeleteOff to check her out!
xo Jane
I didn't think you could hydrangea out there for some reason. I thought it was too hot. Yours are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteSomeone turned me on to that blog a few weeks ago. She is really funny...the story about the big mirror on Craigslist was a hoot. She's a very good writer.
Your red cottage and garden are my dream! They remind me of an English garden. You can't compare your garden to one on acres and acres of land with a staff of gardeners! The chaise is lovely and what a deal. I will check out the blog you have recommended.
ReplyDeleteFirst, most of us would LOVE to have your garden. We moved this spring and my plans for a big, English garden will have to wait until next year. And about the time it is where I want it to be, we'll probably move again!
ReplyDeleteAs for VEB - I adore her blog (and yours!). You both leave me with a smile!!
your garden's looking so pretty!
ReplyDeleteJanet,
ReplyDeleteAre you going to share what you purchased in England and France? Love the wicker!!
I had hydrangeas for one season and never saw them again! I just have to take them home from the shop now. Yours are gorgeous...this is exactly why you were destined to live in a gardeners cottage.
ReplyDeletetalk soon ~

Mornin' Janet:
ReplyDeleteLike reading your blog and your comment "kindness is never out of style". Speaks volumes about you. Thanks for the heads up about Victoria's blog. I'm now reading forward from the beginning. She is hilarious. Your garden looks lovely - our hyrangeas are in bloom now too -I live in Ontario, Canada and don't blog but enjoy reading and follow several who have commented here. Bless your heart.
Louise
Love your garden and birdbath!!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is absolutely beautiful. I love how it's positioned with your darling home in the back. I'm a huge lover of English gardens also. I was reading your archives & saw that you are an esthetician, too. I've been out of practice since I've had my kids; I'm not sure if I'm going to go back to it though. We have a lot in common! :)
