aging and fun

Last night I had one of the funnest nights of my life.  I went to Hollywood to see Wanda Jackson perform with my boyfriend, Jack White.  Normally I get a little jealous when Jack is on stage with another beautiful woman but last night, i set aside all pettiness and thoroughly enjoyed watching this duo on stage.  OMG, is all i can say about Ms Jackson.  She is 73!  Twenty years older than me.  As I stood waiting for the show to begin and wishing i had not worn heels b/c my feet, legs and back were beginning to hurt after a long day of walking, out comes Wanda in all her gorgeousness and begins to belt out hit after hit, standing her own next to the bundle of energy that is Jack White.  Now i don't know about you, but most of the 73 year old women i know would not be able to do this.  After all this was her third night on the road.  The two previous nights she was in New York performing and will perform again tonight.  She was on Letterman on Thursday night and will be on Conan tomorrow night.  That's a lot of being "on" for anyone, let alone a 73 year old.   I would love to sit down with her and hear her secrets on maintaining her energy level and general sense of happiness that she exuded.  She was so charming while relating endearing stories about working with Jack and even a few of when she dated Elvis.  All night as I observed her on stage, one thing kept coming to mind...boy is she having a LOT of fun.  I think I may on the right track, but first I'm going back to bed.

  3. I'm going to have to look her up. I know a bunch of old school music--you know, like Madonna and Cindy Lauper--but I've never heard of her. What a cougar she is hooking up with Jack White.

  5. I've never heard of her either.... she is fun (and was 'gorgeous' when she was young); we should all be so fabulous at 73! and I love the mens outfits!
And, I'm sorry, but I just don't get JW thing... not when you have the 'very' handsome Larry at home. And you can tell Larry I said that!!:)
    but, glad you had fun!!!

I just watched the clip...she is one little sassy woman! I love her energy, her voice and wow! was she a knock out when she was younger, or what?

  8. I just watched the video. It's like a Fuller family wedding at the fire hall. I didn't see a keg but it could have been off screen. Not my thing but still lots of fun and, hey, after a few beers and I might love her!

  9. I'd never heard of Wanda Jackson. But live performances can really set fire to one's soul, I agree. Fun is a good thing.

  17. Well, with your dedication to eating whole, healthy foods ... I would be SHOCKED if you weren't every bit as youthful and vibrant at age 73 as she is. If anyone has earned it, it's you!

  18. Wanda rocks. It's funny to hear you say, Wow, she's so spunky for a 73-year-old. I'm your age, if you're 20 years younger than she, and recently I heard a student tell another student she hoped she had my energy "when [she] got old." I think we'll probably be doing fine at 73. Just keep doin' that yoga.

  23. I have my recorder set to watch her on Conan. Oh what a night you had! I love to feel inspired by older, graceful women. Especially in a society where we poo poo getting older and only focus on youth. Wanda rocks!
