october wrap up

Hi Loves.  Just a few images from October that never made it to the blog.  Things have been up and down here and so thinking and posting has been difficult.  We've been enjoying the beautiful October days. It's getting dark early so it's been movies on Netflix and early bedtimes.

The last of the summer peaches were delicious.

Old Gucci's on an old rug.

Everything is old here.  But I've been wearing this softer than soft cashmere cardigan with sequin fall leaves on it.  It's got a few moth holes and unexpected for daytime but I don't care.

Kimberly Crest this very AM.

Bought this Victorian silk blouse to wear for the holidays.

Two recent estate sale finds.  The top one is an old Mozart bust for $3.  The second is a painting of a dog dated 1903 for $10.  Super lucky finds.

What's been going on in your corner of the world.  Fill me in because I'm dying to know.  xo

That blouse is so pretty....great details and oh my that sweater is a fabulous find!
It is cooler with many foggy walks, I look specifically for a pop of colour when I am out on our walks...so many cheerful surprises in the gardens and beaches along our route.
    Take care

  2. The Victorian blouse and the bust are my favorites, and you look so Audrey in the black dress. I feel like I have compared you to her before! I can never resist anything beaded so I'm coveting the sweater. Classy, classy looks.

  4. Love that victorian silk blouse so much. Looks so pretty on you. I hope you've both been well, and going to bed early is a super-good idea. Rest is key.
I've been enjoying the autumn so much, lots of walks and time looking at trees. Time with the family and trying not to spend too much time watching/reading political news. I'm hosting a retirement party on Friday so I just stuffed the wine fridge full- there that's my news.
Big hug to you Love Danixx

  6. You do have an eye and find wonderful things. I especially like the Victorian blouse and the Mozart bust. As the days get shorter and shorter, I find myself very happy to go to bed early to read and/or watch TV - mainly Netflix or Amazon Prime. I am anxious to view the last season of House of Card which begins on Friday. I wonder what twists it will take with Kevin Spacey out.

  7. Not so much in the way of news...helping my d-i-l sort through her Christmas bins to decide what needs to go to her antique booth. I live next to son & d-i-l, so today I used my walk behind mower to pick up all their pine needles that have been coming down to use for mulch around a cluster of evergreens that don't seem to drop needles. Then more of the same on my property...I use the extra needles to create a soft garden path in one of raised bed gardens.

We have had two back to back glorious fall days, which I hate to squander inside. My rule is if it's nice outside, that's where I want to be. We have plenty of inside only days in the winter. But I love those too.

Love all your pics...especially love the cardigan!!

  8. So elegant. Such beautiful photos - love the first Audrey Hepburn photo (is a higher compliment even possible) - but the peaches photo is gorgeous. Really love the fall sequinned cashmere cardigan with the jeans: the iron-on knee patch! A beloved old friend of mine. All together, brilliant. The Victorian silk blouse is spectacular and looks as though it was made just for you. Such good estate sale treasures, such good therapy. Your sense of style is so remarkable and always helps me learn. As you ask, my corner of the world this October: here on the East Coast, great beauty in the changing Fall colors as always, have been pressing leaves; complex and not welcome medical news in our family; made an extremely rich chicken stock today that is luring me into tomorrow, thinking about what I will do with it.

  9. Weather has finally changed here, but that only means it's in the 70s, and low 80s.
That photo of you wearing the silk blouse is wonderful. All nice vintage pieces. I have a couple of old cashmere beaded cardigans, butno weather/occasion to wear them. Florida has been warming up noticeably in he years I've lived here.

Hope things are going well with Larry & you.

  10. I so love your blog and enjoy every single post- wishing I could make the stress in your life go away. Right now I'm preparing both mentally and physically for regattas this weekend and next weekend. I took up rowing in my late 50's, if you can believe that and moved to a new area and joined a new club earlier this year. It's much more intense and competitive so I have to work extra hard at staying fit and improving technique at my age (62). I will be cooking tomorrow to make vegan and vegetarian dishes for the team dinner Friday night. Rowing is a great distraction from life's complications.

Be well Janet. All The Best.

  12. Hi Janet! You look so gorgeous in your photos. Your hair is beautiful!. What I particularly love though is your free-spirited attitude as it is so refreshing. And I seriously want to go estate sale hunting with you! Life is good here. A bit of the same old, same old but sometimes that is a good thing too! I have started volunteering at a local soup kitchen and find it so rewarding. Can't believe the holidays will be here soon. Hope Larry's health is improving. Love to you both.

  13. Seeing a new post from you is always a treat & the photos in this one are gorgeous, including yours!! Love the blouse! Yes, you do have the best luck at estate sales! When we go, it is usually stuff I would never look at twice. Maybe that means I already have too much stuff!!
As we live near the coast in Hunt. Beach, the days & nights have been very cool - loving it! We had an almost 50-yr old huge Japanese Maple that had to be removed due to boring beetles. It was terrible seeing that beloved tree cut down, but now that we have redesigned that garden area & replanted a new Japanese Maple with more of a Zen feel to that spot, we are loving the new look. Even our squirrels, who were furious that we had cut "their" tree down, seem happy with the new look!
Please know that when you & Larry have "down" times, there are so many people out there who love & care for you. Am sending a big hug & lots of love & healing thoughts to you both. Sent with love, Kathy from Hunt. Beach

  15. Greetings from the west coast of Canada where we are now getting drenched with some heavy rainfall. It's still lovely tho to walkabout and view all the leaves changing colours. We did have a very hot spell in October.

The blouse is beautiful - very becoming on you. Great estate finds you came across. Yesterday I went to a thrift store and was shocked at their prices for basic everyday items.

Our thanksgiving was in October. Delicious meal - Cornish game hens. I'm not a fan of turkey.

I bought a floral umbrella yesterday and it will be getting a lot of use .

  16. Loving the fall temps here after a very humid summer that ended with Hurricane Florence wrecking our small coastal town. Volunteers from all over have been so helpful. I was lucky/blessed no damage. Just got back from spending Halloween with my 3 year old grandson. Waiting for grandson number 2 to enter the world any day now. I think about you and Larry so often. Prayers being said. xo

  17. Have you checked out the book and website, Chris Beat Cancer? Chris Wark beat stage 3 colon cancer back in 2004 when he was 26. He had surgery, but instead of chemo, he used nutrition and natural therapies to heal himself. His book just came out.

  19. Your style appears effortless... there is an aura of timelessness with vintage clothing, and you wear everything so beautifully. Perhaps you've seen the t-shirt 'Old Houses, Old People, Old Dogs,' which I was reminded of by your mention of old, and of course, the Contessa's 'Old is the New Black.' I think there is a new appreciation for the true value of something or someone old. Or at least I tell myself there is : ) Speaking of something that seems like it's from another era, I am IN LOVE with the lambswool duster!! It is simply perfect. Thank you so much for recommending. Always nostalgic for fall... sadly, does not happen in south FL. Sending all best wishes, Debbie

  20. I love your fun post! What a beautiful surprise I found when I checked in on your blog tonight. Love your finds! And beautiful photos.
I have taken time to enjoy the colors of the leaves..the aroma of wood burning in our fire pit..
Watching the geese fly overhead into the pond.
My favorite was I saw a open house sign on one of the oldest homes in our area. They had been remodeling
This all summer. The house was open when I went by but I walked down the tree lined sidewalk with falling yellow leaves and peeked into the big house and barn. It was a gift for me to see.
    Praying for your Larry.

  21. I love this post. Currently we are decorating our dining room and I wondered if you still enjoy your "old rug" that you have pictured with the Gucci's. What would you recommend when it comes to old rugs as far as purchase condition? And are they fairly easy to maintain if there is some wear? Just curious....I always enjoy your pictures. :)

    1. i am not an expert on old rugs but i would say buy what you love. even with lots of wear and old rug will last and add so much character to a room. i just sweep or shake mine out. i don't have a room sized old rug but if i was lucky enough to have one i would vacuum it just like any other rug. :) xo
