humane, healthy, hot*

fresh strawberry salad

mixed garden lettuces
strawberries
cubed baked tofu
walnuts
balsamic dressing

Everyone knows that being humane and healthy is hot, so this Valentine’s Day, treat your sweetie to a romantic day packed full of animal-friendly aphrodisiacs. Vegan aphrodisiacs—from chocolate and strawberries to tomatoes and peppers—are famous for their reputed carnal qualities, but did you know that there’s a scientific reason that meat-free fare is the recipe for romance? The cholesterol and fat in animal foods slow the flow of blood to all a man’s vital organs—not just his heart—but healthy vegan foods will leave lovers full of energy and vitality.   via PETA

well hello,  just one more reason to be vegan, as if we needed one!

and to dispel the myth that vegan men are wimpy, i give you this...

hot vegans

happy valentines day!

  1. Good to see you got your camera back. Are you feeling a little randy today?.... this post sounds as if you are :)

I have to say, I'm a salad lover, but I've never wanted salad for breakfast--until now.

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I'm laughing at that video. I hardly knew most of those guys! That salad looks delish. I must try it when our strawberries spring forth up here. We're in the midst of a snow storm right now.

  4. LOVE your blog! I've been reading it for over a year and it's led me to several other blogs that I enjoy - but none as much as yours! You have such a unique style that I feel as though I know you. Keep doing exactly what you're doing; you make the world a better place!

  7. Janet, Your salad looks so good and of course beautifully photographed. I think I'll make this for lunch on Tuesday. Is the tofu from Tjoe's and do you use it right out of the package?

  8. I haven't thought about strawberries in months and months! This salad is so inspiring, and I'm very jealous that you can get such good berries.

  9. Oh Janet, what a lovely salad! I miss walnuts--hubby doesn't like them and my daughters are allergic. Can't watch the video right now--I'm at work!

  10. Great post. That salad looks really pretty but something just seems wrong about putting strawberries on salad. It just seems like an illegal food pairing. I think I'd prefer pear although it wouldn't be as pretty. Red grapes maybe?

Would love to know what you do with your tofu before you bake it. I assume it's marinated or something.

    Happy Valentines Day, baby!

  12. Strawberries are awesome in a salad, and after trying oranges in the last salad you posted, I'm hooked on that as well! Now I just have to learn how to bake tofu properly. :-)

  14. Love this post, Janet! And those men! Some of them I knew, some, I fear, I didn't. But I knew enough to feel fairly hip for my age.

  18. ooh errr, missus, as we say in Blighty!!

With S.E., can you do a post on how to make tofu yummy? I should be using it more in recipes, especially for my daughter, but feel a little spooked by it and the possible slimey factor! xx

  22. Janet,
Made this salad...loved it and I think it could have been your Valentine post...I'm going to have to disagree with Steve on adding strawberries to salads...not only do they look beautiful, but they are a great addition along with the walnuts.
