pillow talk

happy saturday everyone.  we are off for a wonderful few days in san diego.  i cannot wait to get there.  the temperatures here in redlands have been hovering in the 100's for the last few days with quite a bit of humidity too.  rare for us, thankfully.  but before i leave i want to share with you the completed pillows for my living room.  i absolutely love them.  for the last week i may have been quiet here on my blog but i've been cursing like a sailor while hunched over my sewing machine.  i am not a seamstress nor will i ever be.  i find sewing to be completely maddening.  if you do sew and enjoy it i really envy you.  i do have a little fabric left over and i'm going to make a pillow for the bedroom but it will be very basic with an envelope back.  no welting, no zippers - ever again!

just as a reminder...what the dining room looks like (like you could ever forget) because when you enter the front door you are standing in one relatively big room that makes up the dining room to the right and the living room to the left.

i hope you likey.
i'm off and hopefully i will not be burned to a crisp or eaten by a great white shark.

see you soon.  xo janet

  2. It's lovely. Ordinarily I would not want my pillows to match my curtains, but the fact that you have no rug, IMO, makes it work. All your detail is around the room, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

  7. Funny, we just got back to San Diego last night from Mendocino and Sonoma. I got a chance to see Adrienne @ Rich Life OAB while I was there, enjoyed meeting her and her husband. Awesome couple!

Have fun in San Diego, but I'm afraid you didn't escape the heat much. Hopefully you are by the coast because it isn't pretty where we are! (La Mesa) :)

  8. lovely. and you are to be commended on your sewing. my mom, a home ec. major, taught sewing through the years, and I was her ONLY student never to finish a project.

cleaning my house today and trying to follow your example of clean and uncluttered living...thanks for inspiring.

  10. Are you kidding? There's PIPING for gawd's sake!!! Really nice job, Janet! I love hand sewing. There's nothing more relaxing, but the sewing machine and I are not well aquinted so when I use it, we usually spend the first three hours learning each other's language.
I would rather hem curtains on my lap!

  11. Gorgeous! I sew like you do so I really applaud your effort. May I ask where you got your sofa? I'm looking for one and yours looks perfect!

I think you are on friendly terms with a needle by looking at that sewing job. I could never do that.

    Have a great time!

  14. You and me sound very alike, my language is rather choice when I'm sewing, too!
What a gorgeous result. Beautiful room. I really love that leather pouffe and that etching of a hare.
Have the most perfect trip, stay away from any man eating sharks and slap on the Factor 50! x

  18. Janet,

Your pillows are fabulous as is the entire room. It's looking a little fallish with that beautiful vase in the corner filled with....hmmm....I'm not sure, but I like it a lot!

I wish I could sew and everyone once in a while I'm tempted to learn, if only to make pillows, but then I read this and think maybe not. My family would want to move out every time I pulled the sewing machine out. I need projects that relax me, not frustrate the he-- out of me.

Annnnyway...have a lovely time in San Diego. It's even a bit hot at the beach. No where near 100 though. Enjoy!

  21. Janetttttt!!!!! Love the cushions. I am a bad sewer too- too impatient, too slapdash. I subscribe to the just-get-it-done-near-enough-is good-enough theory which doesn't mix well with stuff like sewing! I'm going for a walk. Best of luck with avoiding getting eaten by a shark!! Love Me and the Baby xxxxx PS I do love your home 11/10

  23. They look wonderful. I just love to be creative by sewing, knitting and crocheting, but just don't seem to be able to make the time! Cooking meals, gardening and Baking is about it for me for the time being.

  24. Your living room (and the rest of your home as well) are so my taste! Love it all! Especially the PB curtains and coordinating pillows! I was actually considering those curtains for my breakfast room, but the window is so big, I don't know what to do with it. If I post a pic online, do you think you could give me some decorating advice? Or anyone else out there in blog land with a keen decorating eye ... I need some help. Thanks!

  25. Give yourself a big pat on the back Janet because the cushions and living room look fabulous.

  26. Beautiful. Just the perfect touch for the living room. Love the white welting. You did a great job.

Love your description of sewing. I sew out of necessity, not fun. Did my pillow time last month, with trim and buttons, yes, buttons.

But you have inspired me to make that TV cover I've been planning. Hope you have a wonderful time in San Diego.

  28. Janet, you might not enjoy sewing, but you are brilliant at it! The cushions are lovely, and you did piping around the edges, plus zips!!! - I sew all the time, but have never figured that one out. Your lounge/dining room is picture perfect exquisite.

  29. Your living room looks simple AND elegant, Janet! I already liked the PB drapes, but adding the pillows gives the room such polish and a very coordinated look without being too matchy-matchy.
Husband, Tom, gives it a thumbs up. You've helped pave the way, by your beautiful example, for some things I'd like to try in our home. Thank you!

Have a wonderful, and COOL, time in SD. Laurie

  37. The pillows are lovely, and your living room is now even more charming.

The thing that struck me most though, is that you had 38 comments! I regularly read about a dozen favorite posts, and yours always has a lot of interest and reponse from followers. You are such a lovely lady and so many of us care about what you are up to.

A while back you threatened to sign off on your blog. If 38 comments about pillows doesn't reflect your popularity, I don't know what does! You are special!
