prelude to spring

With an extended forecast of temps in the mid 70's for the next week, i seems like spring has arrived in southern california.  back in january when i was in utah experiencing some of the coldest weather i've ever been in, i skipped a day of skiing and stayed inside, just me and the sketchy internet connection i had.  luckily  i came across this dress by kayce hughes at a whopping 75% off before my internet connection went out.  originally $138, i bought it for $34.  so here i am trying to do this really cute dress justice.  the things i really love about it are the long sleeves that can be pushed up, it has two pockets and that it can be belted or worn loose.  i can wear it with tights in the fall and bare, shockingly white legs in the spring/summer.  so as i continue to participate in project 333, i'm really happy because this dress will stay in my closet year round.

i apologize if i am writing too many posts about my wardrobe but i really love fashion and it brings me happiness.  i don't know about you but i need all the happiness i can get these days.  also, while there are lots of fashion blogs directed at women under 50, there are few for women over 50.  if you know any that i am missing out on please do tell.

  6. Oh my goodness, do NOT apologize! I'm in my 50's, and I'm thrilled to see someone blog about fashion that isn't geared toward the under 40 age group. I remember a post you did last year that was centered around a cute canvas tote bag, and it was so great to see the daring, simple outfits you put together.

I didn't comment on your previous post about your straw bag, but I love it! I saw the Kate Spade bag at Nordstrom the other day, and while it is adorable, it has nothing on yours. I actually like the heavier weave of the straw on your bag better. Great find!

After paying $4.18 for gas this past week and being shocked at the price of most everything I drop in my cart at the grocery store, I need a happy little diversion--your blog is just that.
    So keep it coming!!

  8. Janet, you look feminine and beautiful in the dress, and thank you for bringing this designer to my attention. I notice the color is something of a persimmon, which I have been fixated on for some time. Yes, I agree, we need to hold onto the little things that bring us joy. Also, enjoy your weather, it is still winter here and my brain is lagging....

  11. Janet,

I see that you have added more red!
    Looks very cheerful...as do you.

I seem to recall that you also have red cowboy boots...not that you'd wear them with this dress...but I am feeling a theme here.

I have some over 50 blogs on my blog roll ...
which until recently had disappeared and through the marvels of technology has been reinstated...come on over and see.

Perhaps a RED DAY POST once a week is in order..
I'd love to join you if you felt that it was something you'd like to consider...excuse me if I am being too bold.

    Hugs

  13. Cute dress and what a bargain! I do love seeing your wardrobe but also enjoy it for the glimpses of your yard! Days are getting warmer here too...but most importantly nights are. Soon I'll be able to buy plants for outside. Have a great Sunday...I'll be painting! Last coat of paint to go on chairs and then I can move on to the buffet. Now I finally feel like I am making progress.

  14. No apologies girl...you should always post about what makes YOU happy and it doesn't matter what you show us...it's always beautiful.
Love the dress and that it's year round...I'm so impressed with your committment to the 333 project. It must be very peaceful to be dedicated to something that has made a huge change in the way you live your life.
I love how you have mastered simplicity...smart and sassy....and very stylish! :)

  16. Look out, you are going to get a model contract. Seriously.

Dress is wonderful, and you found the perfect lippy to match!

I do have to watch my hair envy with you Janet, my lank locks, in dirty blonde will never have your va va voom ( I grew up thinking Navratilova and I shared hair genes!).

Enjoy your passion for fashion, it is self expression, no?

  21. Hi Janet,

I was laughing at your comment about "the shockingly white legs"...that would be me! And let's not even talk about my spider veins that have popped up the last few years...UGH!

We are never too old to be fashionable right? :) (Cute dress by the way)

  24. Great dress Janet and I'm sure it will be a favourite due to it's versatility.
White legs...I use spray tan because sun-baking is not an option. Love the black tights. Leggings and tights are compulsory down here in our temperate winter, teamed with summer dresses and a light jacket.
No need to apologise, I love fashion also and appreciate any blog that's geared to our age group.
Happiness, sadness...life is a rollercoaster. Your blog makes me happy Janet.

  25. First and foremost, I think you get to blog about anything you want, without apologies. Second, I love that I found your blog and it focuses on those of us who have reached 50. Sending you good thoughts. Bonnie

  26. You are so Pretty Pretty! And if fashion makes you happy, (which it does for me too) then fashion blog away! Someone once told me that I could be happy in whatever situation that may occur in life if I just realized that it is only a state of mind--that happiness is simply just BEING. So I have learned through many hardships to make sure I take time to turn my eyes towards things that are good--Things that make me "zone" into bliss--if only for a little while... But oddly enough, it seems to give me a breath of fresh air, and sort of lingers in a subtle way like a good perfume.
So if it may be taking time for prayer, helping someone out, reading a good blog about fashion, food, and gardening, drooling over a Charles Faudree book, practicing yoga, taking time to be grateful for my family, my life, my friends, and my many blessings in spite of it all-I realize in perspective that it's all OK--And it gives peace to deal with the ups and downs of life. I never underestimate the simple things to life--These things are extremely powerful.
Oh...and once again, how pretty pretty you are! Thank you for your inspiration--it's one of the lovely things that makes me happy!

By the way, it's rainy, gray, and chilly here in northern CA. We are waiting patiently for our turn at some 70's. I need some sun. Enjoy yours!
