  3. hmmmmm.....I'm 45 and never had it grilled before. Will have to put it on my "food bucket list" for sure.

  4. Never would'a thought of that. Now I'm hungry...

  5. Now I've had it on toast, but never grilled. That's a completely different sandwich!

  6. I can't start making those. I'd eat a whole loaf of bread in a day for sure.

  7. Great idea!

I have seen your responses to questions on your plates being Buffalo china from your catering days. Any idea where to buy sets besides one or two at a time on ebay? Our great little restaurant supply in Pasadena closed. Your food displays always look so beautiful.

  17. I eat peanut butter on toast. I eat jelly on toast. Wonder why I never thought of a grilled pb&j? It seems like the next logical step! I laughed at "sangwich." My daughter and I thought that was our word. (We're both 8.)

  18. Yum.
Now try a fried/grilled peanut butter, banana and honey(or subsitute) sanga. Is honey ok for vegans??
I remember when Nigella made this on one of her programs and saying it was a favourite of Elvis's.

  20. I've loved this combination since I lived in USA in the 70's. Some English friends think I am mad but it is so good. Looks a delicious lunch to me Janet.x

  22. Cutie patootie, you are! :-) Definitely having a grilled pbj this weekend. The cookies, once again, were WONDERFUL last weekend. In fact, my bananas this time around were extremely ripe...And I think the ripeness made the cookies even better. Just love all your posts. So happy I am a reader of The Gardener's Cottage~

  24. 50 years and I've never thought to try that either. I feel sooooo stupid. but then, I've only in the last several years learned to put peanut butter on toast for breakfast.
just goes to show that we're never to old to learn!!
    Thanks for sharing!!

  25. Dear Janet, Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches take me back to when I was 8 too. They are simply not part of an Australian childhood but I recall my surprise and then total delight biting into my first one when we stayed with my American grandmother on the island of Guam. We don't really have jelly in Australia such as you have in USA/Canada either - jelly is what you make with cristals and pop into the bridge to set and jam has bits in it. Have you ever had a vegemite sandwich? This literally (well according to their iconic ad from the 1950s) "put a rose in every cheek". It is made from yeast so is that vegan friendly?. Lindaxxx

  26. Nothing like PBJ! And fried at that...YUM!

  27. that't exactly why I enjoy hiking trips and ski mountaineering so much: because a peanut butter jelly sandwich is always with me. Butter or cheese would get bad over night if not refriderated.
Have you aver tried making peanut butter - chocolate cups by your own? They are a great treat!
PS: yesterday evening there was a pre-opening party at the construction site of the forever 21 shop. I will be careful when I go shopping at FE21

  28. Am I too old for a peanut butter and jelly sangwich?
But we would say peanut paste and jam here in Australia.
Now that I've worked out that I'm 90, I will see if I have enough teeth for one of these.
PS I shard the age email with Blighty and Linda in Chile -but they know it's top secret because I'm going to follow your advice and post it.
But I have to learn to cut and past first.

Janet, Thank you so much for sharing your story about the Mansion with me. I didn't know you were a chef there. So interesting!

  34. This made me smile, as I grew up making grilled peanut butter sammies. I made one for my new husband more than 3 decades ago. My pan was stainless steel, so I used butter in the pan as well as to butter the bread. Well, they turned out absolutely soaked in grilled fat, and my love was not impressed! It was a joke for years, and thankfully I was successful at cooking other things...

I enjoyed reading this, and seeing your spring wardrobe. How fun. Now if we can get our midwest temps up to the 50s and 60s, I'll feel inspired to put together my spring clothes too.

    Have a great weekend!
