I am a total sucker for neutrals. I love all things bland 😁. I do love a good floral or plaid but I'm naturally drawn to camel, white, black and blue.
I also love old things. I don't feel right when I'm in a head to toe new outfit. Something feels off to me. Right here I'm wearing my new Everlane cashmere sweater (still lusting after this oatmeal one) with a pair of old white painters pants that I bought from a little vintage store downtown. The old balances out the new somehow.
I feel the same way about my home. There has to be a mix of old and a little bit of new. I miss this living room. I want to bring it back! The rug is too small but in my eyes the neutrals are perfection. How bout you? Neutrals or all out color? xo
I like neutrals. Give me boring any day.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and Larry- praying- how were the waffles.
Hugs, Robin
Me, too. Love to build upon neutral apparel. I every once in a while I forget who I am buying for - possibly because I am teased by an ad or display and end up with an item out of my comfort zone. Doesn't take long for a reality check and back it goes. Same at home . . . most walls are painted white and upholstery, too, provides a palette agreeable for most accents as well as switch-ups from season to season. It's all about comfort in a broad sense . . . being comfortable in what we wear and with what surrounds us.
ReplyDeleteGive Larry my good wishes - he certainly is standing his ground while it isn't easy (for either of you).
Hugs.
Neutral = classic in my book.
ReplyDeleteJanet, your hair - it just gets better and better.
x
I'm a neutral gal as well, though I do love shots of color occasionally, mostly jewel tones. Since I've let the silver sprinkles brighten my hair for the last two years, I seem to need more color on my lips. Love the length of your hair.I'm 65 and still keep mine at shoulder length, never one to conform to what "society" thinks is right. Prayers for you and Larry always.
ReplyDeleteI love colour. It's like turning the lights on, you know?
ReplyDeleteJanet I think that you have such a good 'eye' and impeccable taste. Sending love to you and Larry xx
ReplyDeleteI've always loved neutrals (I throw grey in there as well). I refuse to listen to those who say that the reason I like neutrals is I'm afraid of color or afraid of making a mistake or refuse to take a risk. Nope. I'm going to remember your quote, "I love all things bland"! You're looking good in your neutrals, as you always do. I hope Larry is doing as well as can be expected. Keeping a good thought.
ReplyDeleteI love neutrals with a pop of color. I have salt and pepper hair, more salt than pepper, so sometimes all neutral can be too bland. In my house, same thing...cream and white with pops of color, mainly navy and brick red. Neutrals are calming to me, and too much color makes me jumpy/uneasy. I do, however, admire color in others...homes and clothing.
ReplyDeleteYes to neutrals, they are so calming to me. I love your mix, home and personal style.
ReplyDeleteYep...add me into the neutral club. I just so happen to be wearing a cream and camel stripped T'shirt with jeans and brown ballet flats. Gosh, I remember wearing painters pants...so comfy!
ReplyDeleteKeeping you and Larry in my prayers!
Renee in NorCal
yes! camel. cream. navy. taupe. white. oh my.
ReplyDeletewonderful to live with in every way. xo
Love your living room! Neutrals. You make them look so good. Sending the light to you and your Larry!
ReplyDeleteI love your natural, easy style in clothing and home fashion. Neutrals are so calming. I would have thought a brown tone shoe was necessary with this look, but the black looks great.
ReplyDeleteI like the living room look you're missing. It's calming. After a lifetime of creams and beiges in my homes, we moved into a home newly painted in "greige". I'm enjoying the change. We bought a grey sofa that goes well with my favorite blue shades and fun with seasonal pops of color in throws and pillows. Ypu've inspired me to go all neutral for a break, maybe after the holidays.
My best to you and Larry, always.
I love your effortless serene style mixing vintage with neutrals. I think texture play a big role in creating the right tension when using neutrals. In case I missed it, have you changed your living room style/colours? Kind wishes and thoughts to you and your man!
ReplyDeleteI am on board with the love of neutrals as well...always classic. Last year I decided to work on simplifying my wardrobe...so I'm trying to stay with pants in denim, black or dark gray. For T's, sweaters or shirts, I am sticking with white, gray, blue & one of my favorite colors - a pumpkin or coral. The blues & oranges give life to my older face & now mostly gray hair. I am very tired of trying to figure out what to wear. I also do some plaids with my jeans, but I don't do any florals...though I love them on others.
ReplyDeleteI received my duster yesterday, but haven't taken it for a test drive yet. Because I frequently help my daughter-in-law with cleaning when they are having a gathering, I got one for her as well. Kind of self serving, I know! :) They have a lot of furniture with a more ornate design (antiques from the Pilgrim era), & I was using a paint brush & damp cloth to trap the dust.
You look fabulous in the white & camel, by the way.

...all is grace!
Well, I look at that living room photo and it just instantly makes me feel rested; it's so calming, just beautiful. I know of houses at the beach that are decorated similarly because you don't want anything to compete with the view (and colors of) the ocean environment. Neutrals - - it's like, I know I need them; that it would be good for me. But, have to say, I'm very drawn to color, even more than scent. I take cues from nature for how I pair color. Also have quite a bit of color-saturated art to hang on the white walls of my home. I think the only color I'm not really 'into' is red although, in its place, I love a spot of red & white gingham, or red/white polka-dotted something.
ReplyDeleteI guess when you think about it, Earth is neutral/tan/brown and she's accessorized by green leaves of trees, blue sky and blue lakes, purple mountains majesty; an orange & yellow & pink sunset, so maybe I should keep the core of my home in neutrals and just enhance her with a vase full of garden flowers, a bright-fabric throw pillow; nothing innovative in that thought, it's what most people do, right?
I love neutrals and the mix of old and new .. and I love your "former" living room! Balance is soo peaceful
ReplyDeleteLove neutrals....your living room..and a pop of color through the seasons. I saw a bright orange tree against the blue sky today and it was breathtaking. Enjoying Fall.
ReplyDeletePraying for you all.
Neutrals for me! I dress in mostly black, grey, blue and brown (and white in summer). And I prefer solids to patterns (big florals or geometric prints just feel wrong on me). I love stripes and dots. In our home, green is a unifying color. I think it stemmed from the vintage matte green tile around our 1922 fireplace, which I just adore.
ReplyDeleteClaudia
You have the magic touch with color in both your style and home. I agree with the poster above that the colors of the sand, sky, sea, and trees is naturally agreeable and calming for us human animals.
ReplyDeleteNeutrals, always. Sand and sea. Silvery moss. That sort of thing. I find neutrals restful and zen, especially in home decor, though a tiny pop of bright can elevate. In clothing, ditto. Love your style.
ReplyDeleteNeutrals esp. beach tones, sand, pebble gray, creamy white seashell, ocean-tossed aquamarine sea glass with SPLASHES of color : ) Adore the soft palette of your living room... I would love white couches, but with two black dachshunds, one long-haired, that is simply not possible : ) Debbie
ReplyDeleteNeutrals - I dress mostly in grey, black, cream, navy blue, white. I love this classic look and it goes better with my grey/silver hair. I sold my few Louis Vuitton items because they're brown! Now I live simply and with more ease - too much choice makes me anxious. Love your look, Janet. DO you still go for a daily walk around your neighbourhood? I keep thinking I must do that...
ReplyDeleteLove your style, you always look chic. I’ve wrestled with wearing color, but always go back to basics. I have cool coloring, so gray is my ‘camel’ because the brown washes me out. White, black, navy and pale blue. That’s my closet. No prints except subtle stripes. But I think it’s because I’m petite and florals drown me. I love your hair! A new hairdresser convinced me to grow my dark hair out and I am loving it at 58! As for my home, I had a modern condo in a warm climate that begged for neutrals. But my permanent house is in a cold climate that needs the warmth of color, especially in the winter.
ReplyDeleteYou are glowing, Janet! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteR.
I love simple classics and neutrals certainly are classic. I am often inspired by other people. One of my favorites was an outfit I saw on a woman at Target. She had on beautifully faded straight jeans and a black crewneck sweater. So effortless and perfect
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning!! Where did you get that black dress- I need. Loving my Everlane sweater, you recommended. Arrived in Umbria- do you believe it?
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well with you and Larry. Saying a prayer from Umbria.
