  1. There's nothing better than the first roses. We still have several weeks before we'll see any I think.

  5. I look out my kitchen window every morning to see there's just one rose bloom. They're tucked away still, I guess until it finally warms up. Yours are gorgeous! I swear one day I'm going to live in gardener's cottage surrounded by old roses.

That Frost poem is one all my favorites.

    Have a beautiful day!

  9. Just beautiful! I love having flowers in the house...I've been known to carry a full vase from room to room to be able to enjoy them if I'm in the kitchen or waking up in the morning!

  12. So gorgeous! Both my pretty pink rose bushes died last year in all the heat despite daily watering and now I have small red roses from the roots. The bushes are quite large but I am not into little red roses....but I guess they are hardy. I miss my big pink ones.

  13. Dear Janet,

I garden with haphazard abandon in New England...but have not delved into roses. I do not know if the same varieties you have would do well elsewhere but would be interested to hear which ones you particularly like. I am mad for fragrance, not just physical perfection. In fact, not altogether attracted to the over-hybridized roses. I dream of ramblers but am afraid they could take over my house!

Lovely photos--as I write this I can almost smell them but it is actually the scent of hyacinths and late daffodils and viburnum carlesii that is wafting by on the garden breeze.

I'd love roses in the bathroom !

  22. Janet love all of your bouquets. I think my favorite is the one on the wash basin. I always think roses look best in the simplest containers. I can never decide whether to cut them or admire them throughout the window. My dad always says if you cut them you get more.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  24. What a lovely way to start the weekend...Getting to see the first explosion of The Gardener's Cottage Roses. It's awesome.
I remember last year how you said their fragrance was so full that at one point you moved the bouquets outside. Now THAT would be just... amazing! You, dear Janet, are truly blessed.

  40. Dear Janet, your roses are beautiful, here no roses yet , just some very wet, bedraggled pansies in pots, courtesy of Grandma Whacker, bless her, the only real gardener round here! Meanwhile, in an exciting lifestyle development, we all have nits. Lovely.

  41. Gorgeous! I've been inspired by your roses for awhile; currently have a few rose bushes in my yard, but went ahead last week and ordered a few from the Antique Rose Emporium. They are due to arrive this week. Keeping my green thumbs crossed that they do well here in Connecticut!

  42. Beautiful roses Janet! I'm getting endless pleasure from all the roses in my garden right now. They are SO big, these first blooms, and the scents are spectacular!

  45. Gorgeous. I especially love the orange-y/peach-y ones. Do you know any of their names?

  46. Oooh just realised - such a grammatical error in my comment!! Meant to be "you're teasing me" and I thought I never made that mistake - I had better go to the bottom of the class! Sarah x

  47. Janet, your roses are enviable! Mine opened this week in a profusion of pale pink. Despite the longing to clip and bring them inside, I end up feeling guilty for snipping them because they don't hold up very well in a vase. How do you make your blooms last?

  48. Hi there, I just found your blog today and I love your style and posts! I was wondering what kind of soap is the one you've featured in the bath picture above on this post? It looks absolutely gorgeous in a sort of naturally-occurring teal and brown leopard-like pattern. Cheers!

  49. i have forgotten the name of the soap but i'll find out and post it here. thanks for reading!
