hello beautiful

really now, that was a fast weekend.
i'm going to pretend it's not over.

i really love this spring weather, i know the summer heat is coming so i really enjoy this time in the garden.

on saturday i went to an estate sale and left empty-handed.  rare for me to do.

it hit me this weekend that i'm grateful that i no longer have little ones to raise.  that is a hard job and has so many responsibilities.  i really loved it when i was in it - but i'm glad it's over.

one of the pleasures of having this rose garden is being able to give them away.

i wish you could scratch the screen and get a hint of the fragrance.

i'm sharing this bouquet with you and jane at small but charming.

i hope this monday is good to you.

  1. Hello Janet:
What better way to start the week than with a beautiful bouquet of Roses from your own garden. Buxom and blousy, your blooms are beautiful indeed! Bravo!!

  2. It was a fast weekend. I was hoping to start the new week with sunshine and warmth but it's just as cold and dark as it was yesterday. I don't have any roses yet but I'll trade you a big bouquet of yours for some pretty pink peonies. :)

  3. thanks for reminding me that I will enjoy my time after my son is in college. prom was this past weekend and after the photos were taken and he was gone, I cried just a little. ok. a lot. and he's only a junior. I thought I'd be dancing when my freedom came. I know I will enjoy it, but the gettin' there is kinda hard....have a great week you classy, stylish broad. donna

    1. Donna & Janet, your comments really touched me, for I know I am not alone...My youngest is too a Junior and is going to the prom next weekend. There are many moments when I dream of "freedom" but at the same times shed tears...for "the gettin there is kinda hard" Thank you ladies for letting this Momma know what she is feeling is "normal" and that my next season in life will be sweet. April.

  4. Ahhh thanks for the share.

I'm on day 2 of my weekend, but it's turned gray and cool.

A perfect day to stop and smell the roses.

  5. Janet, my roses won't bloom until June but they are pathetic wretches next to your showgirls.

  7. Hi Janet,

I too on occasion have walked away from an estate or garage sale empty handed. I did however, get lucky this weekend. One item in particular I have wanted to buy for the house but the odds of me finding it at a garage sale were probably slim. A neighbor down the street was having a sale and I almost didn't go because my husband thought it was mostly "guy stuff" like tools and fishing gear. I went anyway and there it was, for $5.00! I also picked up a mint copy of "The Kind Diet" at another sale for $1.00. :)

  10. you do have spectacular roses. wish I could stop in for a visit and go home with a bouquet.
Mothering is tough - and I only have one. But, when they say things like "I command you to give me a kiss" it just is so darn precious. I'm trying to enjoy every moment of this time as a mom to a little one.

    have a great week!

  12. Oprah once said that being a Mother is the hardest job in the world and it's very true but it's also the best job in the world. Both of my kids have had a cold this past week, one behind the other which is very challenging. Some fresh roses from my garden have made my week much more pleasant! They smell heavenly! We have to be thankful for even our smallest blessings!

  13. Your garden has inspired me. Over the last year I have planted about a dozen roses bushes. It's been great fun to gift small bouquets to visitors...

  14. Oh what beautiful roses!!!! I wish I could smell them. We hosted a birthday party for my littlest one this weekend. It was exhausting but so wonderful. The theme was Springtime in Paris and those roses would have looked so pretty on the table. The weekend DID fly by!!!

  15. What beautiful roses and it is special when they are from your own garden. Our roses are a long way away yet and it is gloomy here too, so your roses are a bit of bright color.

  17. Hi Janet--I'm fairly new to your blog and I've really enjoyed reading all of your entries. My husband and I have lived in a very small 50s house for the past 15 years so it is really cool to see others make that choice. You are also inspiring me to be much more thoughtful about my wardrobe and choices. Very good job with what you do!

  26. Hi Janet, now that my (four) kids are raised I get to sometimes sleep in and have the sense to enjoy it without feeling guilty. Life has seasons and I'm sure that this carefree stage will come to an end someday. In the meantime it's good--and healthy--to stop and smell the roses. Allegra
