How I do my easy messy bun

Happy Friday Loves.  You've asked how I do my messy bun so I made an awkward little tutorial showing you how.  I started wearing this bun early last year when it seemed as if we were living at the hospital.  It doesn't matter if your hair is clean or dirty, long or short.  With a few bobby pins maybe even short hair can work.  You'll get to see just how wild my hair is without a blow dryer and flat iron.  I just can't with all that any longer.  I love the ease of this bun and I hope you do too.

Have a beautiful weekend. x

  1. Good morning Janet!
Thank you so much or the tutorial video... I had no idea how you did it and I can see that your technique is completely different than how I imagined it.
I am going to try that with my hair! I just need to get a coated elastic and some pins!

  2. I loved hearing your voice❤️
My hair is about your length but very thick. However, I am thinking this will work. I will need to pick up some bobby pins at the store or snatch some from my niece.
Have a beautiful weekend! P.S. your robe is so pretty!

  3. I did it! The splayed fingers are the key for sure! I have been using a clip which makes it too heavy. Thanks for the video.

  6. Love your video Janet!
I saw a woman wearing the blue H&M toile dress (top?) that you have today. It's so cute.

  7. Awww.... I love this. I came over this morning to look at your posts on vegan eating as a refresher and here was this! It's so nice to hear your voice. I have a a variation of your method but I like this better. Thank you. You are beautiful in your messy bun! xo karen

  8. OMG- it's the real live Janet- love your voice! I have been wearing buns all summer long. It is so easy when my hair is wet right out of the shower (I just comb it back, hold it with one hand as if to make ponytail, twist it around and then bobby pin it). It is neat and professional looking for day but what I especially love is the glorious waves I have after it dries and I take it down in the evening. So happy to see all these posts from you- they are literally like a breath of fresh air.

  9. Can you imagine... the private club I work at was founded in 1933 and years ago--true-- the ladies' rooms had small bowls filled with white bobby pins!! I have usually worn my hair in a clip, but love the messy bun look (much more chic : ) Excellent instructions and fun to hear your voice! Debbie

  10. Janet, love your video tutorial! Never knew about the splayed fingers - good tip! And loved hearing your voice after so many years of following you (just like everyone else commented)! 😂

  11. I do mine similarly, but lower on my neck and I don't have bangs or pretty waves, so I keep my side-swept bangs loose. Looks pretty good but I like yours better. Your voice sounds just like I thought it might all of these years. That's a good thing!

  12. Alas my stick straight hair is not as compliant, so this hair tip won't work for me. But I love your video, voice, and all the life lessons you've generously shared on your blog. Rooting for you on whatever you choose to do!

  13. Thank you for the tutorial, now I know how to finally do it. Your voice is so soft and angelic, just like you come across in your beautiful blog. Cheers

  14. Thanks for this, Janet - seems so easy. Alas I have shorter to real short hair all these last many years. My hair is just too fine and I don't have enough of it - it tends to be limp and wimpy if I have it too long. I would so give this a try, though, if I had longer hair! I agree it was fun to hear your voice and see your expressions ;-)

  15. You are so beautiful, I even like the messy look before you even put it up. My hair is short and I love that I can wash and go, may tousle a bit, but that is it.

  16. Hello Janet! I love it! Thanks for posting this. You are so beautiful to me. I tried doing this while watching with my own hair which is a short swing bob! No comment on how this turned out on me.
    Sincerely,

  18. Oh my goodness!! This is PERFECTION! I can't tell you how many "messy bun" videos I've watched and attempted with only moderate success 😳😃 I followed along with you and it was perfect the first time... Brilliant! Thank you for this! I have rather long hair with bangs and used one of those Teleties. Again, thank you for the demonstration... I haven't seen anyone else do it like this.

  21. Love your messy bun! I just can't with the straighter and curling iron anymore either. I also started growing my hair color out 20 months ago at the age of 46. I only wish I did it sooner! xo

  23. I enjoyed hearing your voice for the first time and even though I don’t have hair long or thick enough for a bun, I enjoyed your video. You’re just so beautiful! Thank you :)

  24. I agree with everyone about hearing your voice, so lovely just like you. I have very short hair so a messy bun is not an option but it looks so FAB on you. I'm eyeing that beautiful crown molding in your bathroom, it's wonderful and so cool to have in your loo..
