keeping my cool

The dog days are upon us and we are at the beginning of a long heatwave and I'm not looking forward to it.  Life goes on whether it's hot or not so I may as well get over it right?  I've been working a little bit and have to pull myself together for that.

This outfit from Everlane has come to my rescue.  It's the easy chino and cotton muscle tee.  The tee cotton has a beautiful drape to it that belies its $22 price.  Together they look almost like a jumpsuit without the hassle of undressing to use the ladies.  Both are so comfortable it feels like I'm walking around in my pj's. I keep mixing and matching these pieces with everything.  I recently wore the tank with a pair of vintage silk sateen trousers which is not where you think a muscle tank would work...but it did.  What do you wear on these v hot days?  I normally wear dresses but I keep turning to this situation.  I also have the cotton muscle in white  just to keep you on your toes.  x

  1. You look wonderful! Cute car and a chandelier in the carport? Wow!
It's miserably hot in South Carolina so I mostly wear capris or ankle pants with a light, airy top. It's so hot my dogs don't even want to go outside!
I love all your posts, they make my day!

  3. When I wash cotton tee-shirts, leggings or dresses, I sometimes pull them out of the washer, roll them up and put them in the freezer, wet. My children think I am crazy but it is a wonderful way to cool down!

  5. Janet-you look so fabulous. And a chandelier in your car port?! How elegant!! I try to wear as little as possible during a heat wave- usually a simple dress, barefoot, hair up. You are the reason love Everyone so much. Their pieces are the epitome of simplicity, classy and elegant- just like you.

  6. Always love seeing a post from you! So are you working part-time a bit? Good for you!

Since we live very close to the beach, my summer style is pretty cool & relaxed: sundresses or light cotton pants with a sleeveless shell & ballet flats. I know you don't like to spend much on clothes now, but I have fallen in love with Rothy's flats! So comfortable & stylish & I can wear them to work too. So that's my summer "uniform" till Fall comes. Then it's nice leggings with a long tee & my pearls to make things elegant! Sending you a big hug & lots of love. And I do agree, that lipstick looks fabulous on you!

  8. I wear a cool loose linen dress if it’s really hot. I must myself with Avene thermal water...you look so elegant. I think a monochromatic look is very chic. Hope your work is in an air conditioned space ! BTW that chandelier is a fabulous idea.

  9. Love the monochromatic look! I must look into the Everlane tee. On hot summer days linen is my go-to, so easy and cool. Your posts make my day too! xo

  10. Hot here in the mid Atlantic region, too. Thank you for reminding us that it truly is possible to look fabulous and cool while not. All summer long, I reach for linen shirts and pants and when I return home I quickly slip into an old and well worn set to save the others for "appearances." I find that jewelry other than my go-to pearl earrings make me feel warmish.
I agree with everyone - the chandelier is a delight.

  11. Love that outfit and you wear it so well! I'm not a summer person at all (unusually for the UK, it's been a hot one) and struggle to know what to wear. So I just adapt my winter ensemble of black jeans and military boots and add long sleeved shirts instead of polo neck jumpers (black, of course!).

  12. You look great! I wore an almost identical outfit yesterday: black tank, black ankle length pants and tan bag, but with solid nude sandals. This outfit is comfortable even in our over 90* heat. I've heard to stay cool in hot weather it's good to wear light colors but I still can't resist black. It's a "rule" I often love to break ;)

  13. Janet, you look fantastic - so chic. Wish I looked a quarter as pulled together as you. It's already getting cool where I live, and I'm sad about that. Too soon! When it's hot, I like dresses and skirts in cotton or linen, always with a cotton sweater for the ac.

Love the chandelier in your carport. Leave it to you. :)

  14. I like this simple look very much, but it is those fabulous leopard print mules that lift the outfit into something special!
