Between meals have always been hard for me no matter what I'm eating. I'm the kind that needs to eat smaller meals but more often throughout the day. This smoothie works wonders and this is how I make it.
In my Vitamix ...
1 cup plant milk
1 frozen banana
1 Medjool date
2 cups fresh spinach, kale or greens
1 heaping Tablespoon unsweetened cacao powder
1 Tablespoon peanut butter
If I'm not really hungry, I'll leave out the PB.
I make many variations on healthy smoothies but lately this is my favorite.
xo
Your vitamix is coming in handy...and your snack sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteI used to have a smoothie for breakfast but now I opt for fresh fruit. I think it’s because I am lazy and don’t want to wash out the blender every morning!
haha, i get that! x
DeleteThank you so much for your recipes and food suggestions. It has come at a perfect time for me - I just got my blood tested and my numbers are scary bad! One question, do you taste the spinach or do the rest of the flavors hide that chlorophyll flavor?
ReplyDeleteno pam you cannot taste the spinach. often i add more than what i posted in the recipe. x
DeleteDo you dice up the date before adding to the blender? I can't imagine it "blending" in with the other ingredients. Also, could you please enlighten us about "plant milk"?
ReplyDeleteif i did not have a vitamix i prob would at least cut the date in half but the vitamix pulverizes it whole (without the pit of course). plant milk would be non-dairy such as almond, soy, coconut etc. x
DeleteI also do better on smaller meals more often.
ReplyDeleteI'm having so much fun AJJ! thank you for introducing me to Dr John McDougall! I feel like I just might have a new lease on life. I can't do the smoothie on this post right now. I'm on Warfarin. and the greens mess with the blood thinner. but I hope to eventually soon be off all of them! well. except for the thyroid. (removed bc of cancer) so the little pill now is for a lifetime. wish I'd known about him years ago. might still have it! xoxo
you are welcome tammy. i think dr mcdougall is awesome too. so is dr. mcgregor. idk why doctors are not educated v well on nutrition. it's kinda scary. x
DeleteOh my goodness Janet...you have given me lots to think about. I have watched a few of the links you shared, but this morning I watched Dr. McDougall in an interview about oils! Oh me, oh my...I have lots of changes to make.
ReplyDeleteI will be 73 in a week & have been having some digestion issues, which I think are probably related to fats, so hopefully I can make adjustments that will help that problem. So far my only health concern is high cholesterol, so perhaps I can help that problem as well. I have dug in my heels & refused prescription meds so far...thank goodness I have a doctor who supports working on diet rather than just taking pills. Keep the good stuff coming. I need all the help & motivation I can get! Godspeed!!

Thank you! I’m trying to improve my eating habits and your posts are inspirational!
ReplyDeleteAh, the snacking . . . truly my downfall because I never have on hand that it healthy. I never get enough greens and this blended snack might just move me onto a much healthier path.
ReplyDeleteYou are a reformer of hard-to-break eating habits . . . such a generous and loving gift for your followers.
Continuing love and best wishes for Larry and you.
Delicious. I too like smoothies, and all of my kids had them for breakfast for many years.
ReplyDeleteHello Janet! Glad to see you are still posting. I have this same recipe posted on my fridge. It is so delicious and I can't even taste the spinach in it. Everyone in our house loves it. I also have been following Dr. Gregor and purchased his book, How Not To Die. Honestly, I like his website better than the book.
