what to wear on thanksgiving

Me-Too flats. So Comfortable for being on your feet all day.

Is it too early to discuss Thanksgiving Day Fashion?  I didn't think so.  I had an appointment on Tuesday that required me to pull myself together for the day and this is what I wore.  It was a long day and at the end I realized that this would be perfect for Thanksgiving day. This year we will be hosting and as all American's know it is a really really long day.  Dinner will be served outside like this again, so I gotta be comfy because of all the in and out.  So the other day I wore this $2 brown vintage floral blouse, remember when I bought it at that great Palm Springs estate sale?

I wish I could link to beautiful vintage blouses that cost $2 but I can't. You have to dig through piles of crap to find them. But this gorgeous one at Ann Taylor Loft is on sale and I'd wear it in a minute with cute jeans. What are you wearing, will you be comfortable and is all that work worth it? x

  1. No Thanksgiving here obviously but I'm like you, comfort is what I look for in an outfit nowadays ! xx

  2. Yes I think it's way too early. How dare you!
Looks fabulous. I'll be wearing a messy apron and khaki shorts (whether it's 75 or -20) and an Oxford (probably wine stained) so you know everyone will be copying my glamour next year.

    1. Also I feel strongly that if it's not worth it to someone, they shouldn't do it. It's too much work if you don't love it. I seriously love it and still sometimes wonder why I do it. Pick the part you do love, do that, and assign the other parts to guests/pissy children. I think anyone can figure out how to make one of the dishes to bring. Just make it clear they're making it in their kitchens, not yours! I have a client who got so burned out and she decided to just make a beautiful salad, set the table, and arrange flowers. She told her boys that if they wanted anything beyond a Stauffer's lasagna, they'd have to make it themselves. They, of course, kicked and screamed (all in their 20s) about how she was ruining Thanksgiving. Well she wrote a grocery list for them and wished them luck. They called her about 85 times with dumb questions and got in a huge fight and then had a fabulous dinner. And now it's a tradition. One of them even sought my advice on gravy last year!

  4. Hi Janet,

Love your Thanksgiving outfit...what a score on that blouse! Cute shoes too!

I'm not sure what I will be wearing because of our weather being so unpredictable...last year I was annoyed that I couldn't wear a sweater because it was in the 80's! (I wasn't hosting) I think what you chose will be perfect, kitchens tend to get warm with all that cooking going on!

  5. Hi! Love your outfit. I used to think that Thanksgiving preparations were worth it when my kids were young and still living at home. Now, not so much! Ha ha! I always am the one who hosts and it's getting to be too much for me. All the shopping, expense, cooking and cleaning up! I am no good for days afterwards after standing on my tile floor in the kitchen all those hours for a meal. To tell you the truth, I don't miss doing it. We are all getting together and going out to this lovely restaurant this year like we did last year. It worked out so wonderful for all of us. It is a very quaint, pretty restaurant that gets 4 stars all the time and the food is excellent. They have a wonderful menu for Thanksgiving with 6 choices of appetizers, entrees and desserts. So that's my story.

  6. Comfy shoes are important and your pretty blouse is perfect for a garden dinner al fresco. You are really looking healthy and your happiness is showing!
I've already done Thanksgiving as we celebrate it in October...I wore black ponte knit pants and a black and white tunic top underneath my natural linen Bon Apetit apron!

    2. I wish the US would have Thanksgiving in October, too. It would be nice to spread out the family time instead of having everything squashed into 4 frantic weeks. It would also let us recover from the food overload, as well.

  10. I think that's the perfect Thanksgiving outfit! I'm not sure what I will be wearing, as the weather is unpredictable this time of year, but I will be wearing comfy shoes for sure. As for "Is all that work worth it?" I'd have to say, no. And that's coming from a person who likes to cook and eat. But it's a lot of work and wears me out. Also, I'm a vegan, yet still cook a regular turkey dinner for the rest of the family. I would love to see your Thanksgiving menu. And if you have any suggestions for easy vegan side dishes, I'm all ears!

    1. i will share my thanksgiving menu as soon as i have that figured out. choosing what to wear is so much easier! i have a feeling this year i will be making non vegan things too. x

    2. I know this probably wasn't meant to be a vegan post, but I am curious to know how you juggle cooking for both vegan and non-vegan eaters, and if you, like myself, struggle with the idea of having to purchase and cook non-vegan things.

  11. Casual pretty? That's what I am going to label this outfit. Honestly, I think the fact that it fits so well and that you look healthy and happy is what makes it super cute. I'd wear this every day if I looked as good!

  14. Oh I wish my extended family got dressed for Thanksgiving (or for any holiday)! It will be the typical attire: t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. Of course it will probably be 100 degrees here in So.Cal. for Thanksgiving so I guess it's alright :) ... so tired of the heat ... come on Fall.

And I am looking forward to when you share this day.
I love finds like this, and to only pay $2.00 for such a wonderful blouse is a great thrill, I am going to hunt some thrifts this week....looking for my Holiday wear... A wonderful ThanksGiving blouse to go with my worn out jeans.

You inspire girl, and I have to mention I love how you will match the look of your home, inside and out with your blouse matching it all.

  16. you're right in that redlands has the best november. and december. and january. lived there for 20 years and i miss particular things about that magical place. will be there again in a few weeks to pick up my mother and bring her to northern california for a week at thanksgiving. will have eggs benedict at McDuff's while in my old home town.. went to school with those guys (owners). i've thought many times about enjoying thanksgiving al fresco. hmm. if the weather permits i may just do that. :) we rarely have a traditional meal .. 2 years ago i prepared a german inspired dinner, last year traditional, this year? thinking chipotle salmon. i'll wear my signature expectation of duds :: linen.

  18. Very Pretty Janet...I love to wear something floral too in warm tones. I found a very pretty sheer tan and gold and brown floral blouse which I'll wear with tan pants and mix it up with my vintage leopard pumps. But we are in New England and sometimes it snows here...so waiting in the wings is a teal cashmere sweater and some crystal necklaces. Thanksgiving is my very favorite holiday. I love everything about it! Enjoy! (Donna of A Lovely Inconsequence
