super busy day today, glad it is winding down.
we had a beautiful spring rain yesterday.
i couldn't stop myself from taking a few pictures, the roses were so lovely.
i hope you have a relaxing weekend before you.
larry is going on the grueling cactus to clouds hike in palm springs that will start at midnight tonight under the full moon (the biggest, brightest full moon of the year) and end sometime tomorrow afternoon.
i on the other hand will be sound asleep.

Those exquisite roses look very lovely dressed in raindrops.
ReplyDeleteI 'll want to be slumbering deeply this weekend as it's been a long week...
I hope that you spend a luxurious weekend resting and catching those ZZZ's
Janet, these photos are stunning! I love the one with the iris. Mine just bloomed today...can't bring them inside though, Chad thinks they stink but I'm in love with them.
ReplyDeleteSleep and enjoy yourself all weekend!
We're in a tornado watch right now so I'm waiting up for the thunderstorms that are ready to start.
Have a lovely weekend, my friend. :) xo

Your raindrops on roses are gorgeous. What an amazing experience for your husband to be in the open desert and to see the Supermoon in this way. Hope you have a restful weekend!

just gawjuss photos, I do declare!
ReplyDeleteOh...I can just about smell them and the rain......so pretty. Enjoy your time alone!
ReplyDeleteHello Janet:
ReplyDeleteHow refreshing the spring rain, providing it is not too heavy, can be. We always felt that after a few soft, gentle showers the garden would appear almost at its best. Here your roses look lovely, touched as they are by the raindrops.
Good luck to Larry - we do not envy him!!
I really enjoyed your roses
ReplyDeleteAwesome camera work. I can almost smell them!
ReplyDeleteI swear those flowers were waiting for you to photograph them ; BEAU-TI-FUL !
ReplyDeleteI think this is what it means to stop and smell the roses... Thank you for reminding us of the beauty around us that we pass by and tAke for granted . Your pictures are stunning!
ReplyDeleteAhh, jewels on the roses, a light spring rain adds another beautiful dimension to your garden!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful raindrops on roses look Janet :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!

Janet:
ReplyDeleteThank you for the beautiful bouquet of roses. It couldn't ha
ve come at a better time. Peg
Boring photos, yawn. What - no posing in clothes?
ReplyDeleteYou are the boring one. Is this the best you could come up with today "Sandy?"
DeleteHi Janet,
ReplyDeleteWhat do you feed your roses? Maybe you said before but I forgot. They are just gorgeous.
Enjoy your restful weekend.
Linda
xo
P.S. I think anonymous must have a brown thumb. :(
hi linda this year the only thing i've fed them is homemade compost. i only had enough for one feeding though so i will purchase a big bag of bulk fertilizer from the independent garden center i use. i don't know the name of it but i will try to find the old post that has the name.
Deletehave you ever heard the old saying, there is a thin line between love and hate? i think my anon commenter secretly loves me. :)
What do you feed your troll? LOL Best advice I've heard is ...nothing!;)
DeleteThese roses are not only gorgeous but the rain has turned them to something almost unreal. With the raindrops, they almost looked waxed! Esp. the RED! Really stunning and I love that you thought to photograph them in this state. Very cool.
You think I secretly love you? My goodness the vanity is astounding.
Deletewell based on my google stats you come here often and stay quite a long time. so there is something here you love. you say you don't like me, my style, my garden, and yet you keep coming back.
DeleteJanet- your photography is beautiful! I love the roses!
ReplyDeletehappy weekend to you and superman;)
xxj.
oh my goodness ajj!
ReplyDeletelike walking into a georgia o'keefe painting
only with the freshness of spring rain on the blooms.
simply lovely.
and i hope a.nony.mouse was only joking.
you are so much more than a mere clothes poser!
you have depth and charm and greatness of heart and
you are kind and gentle and walk lightly upon this earth. and
you value all beauty whether nature or man made. and you share it.
i know they had to be joking. anyone who stops by here knows you!
cheers,
tammy j
No definitely not joking. I saw 7 boring pictures flower after flower after flower. Boring. There'll be many others who skipped over these pictures too but don't like to admit it.
DeleteMore than a clothes poser? I don't know about that as I only see what is posted on here - posing in clothes. Usually more than one pose per post too. What's that if not vanity and posing?
again, based on my google stats thousands of people like to see garden posts. this blog is a tiny portion of my life. i don't know what you expect to see here but since you are not getting it, why not just move on?
DeleteJust ignore her, Janet.

Beautiful Roses Janet, Thank you for sharing them with us. I love them!
ReplyDelete-Missone
It's nice that most people are able to "smell the roses". It's also nice when people want to share the beauty they see in the simple things -- thanks for sharing Janet :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and am IN LOVE with it. Love your philosophy of living simple...love your cottage (am looking for just the right property to buy in my part of California)...love your commitmLent to simplify your wardrobe yet maintain style (I need to learn how to do this....my wardrobe is simple but NOT stylish). Love that we are about the same age. LOVE the roses. I just love your blog. I'll be back! Blessings-Lina
ReplyDeleteThe Gardener's Cottage is my very favorite blog because it is cared for in such a delicate manner. You have a deep appreciation and respect for life, Janet. I like to think of The Gardener's Cottage as being blissful. And that is a very good state of mind--very healing--very refreshing. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Janet, thank you for such a lovely blog! I have learned so much from you and look forward to your posts. People who criticize are only unhappy with themselves!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a blessing to be able to appreciate the finer things in life :)
Hi Janet:) I've been reading you for about a year now. I'm trying to talk myself into going vegan, so your blog is a good kick in the right direction, but must learn to deal with this cheese addition I have:) I have recently started growing roses; I've had them for a few years, but last year I moved them all to a dedicated bed and have started to baby them. I have seen some improvment, but still struggle with yellowing leaves. any tips to share? I fertilizer with an organic granule once a month and spray (organic) the leaves periodically. I've started to be more ruthless with my dead heading of the spent blossoms, but pruning is hard for me! I am in Wilmington, NC. So love your blog; I've referred my mom and aunt to you as well so you remind me of them, only more organized:)
ReplyDeleteBest, Ava
I love your blog. Ignore anon.
ReplyDeleteHi Janet: I have never left a comment, but I wonder why someone would return repeatedly to a blog that they don't like. I almost never read the comments, but I saw your line about getting rid of a rude commentor. Goodness sakes is all I have to say. In the south we say: "play nice or go home!" I enjoy your blog and I love the clothing posts. I love the simplicity of your life. I embrace simplicity in mine and like to see how others are embracing simplicity in theirs. I'm not fifty, yet, but I appreciate the near fifty or over fifty blogs because of women like you that are aging gracefully and enjoying life. You have a refreshing and interesting perspective. I typically don't enjoy the garden posts because where I live it would be impossible to grow such a gatden, but I don't think I could muster a hostile comment about them. Anyway, most of us that come here, come here because we feel you have something relevant to say. My suggestion to the rude commentor is to take a B complex vitamin on a regular basis and maybe he or she will feel more tolerant of others. Pea.
ReplyDeleteI, too, thoroughly enjoy your blog, flower pictures and all. The flower pictures you shot are spectacular with the water drops. Your roses are beautiful. Here in the Midwest we constantly fight blackspot and other maladies.
ReplyDeleteJanet, your beautiful photos of the roses in your garden take me back in my memories to my grandparent's garden. It is long gone, but the beauty remains. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMichell
Oh my gosh, these photos are LUSCIOUS!
ReplyDeleteStunning photos, they almost look fake they are so beautiful. As for anonymous commentor-not so beautiful...
ReplyDeleteLOVELY PICS:) I really like your blog and I want to follow, do you have twitter or FB??

Ok, you listed most of mine. I love pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks. I love those candle from Wal-Mart and love the price. I saw those same boots at Target and am so hoping they will still be there the next time I get there. I love a nice soft blanket being pulled out and around me in the evening.
