spicy tortilla gardein burger*

it's friday and the weekend is here.
i'm happy.

but i'm also (always) thinking about easy, yummy things to eat.
a spicy tortilla burger would be perfect.
i made these last weekend and they were a big hit.
maybe you'll like them too.

1 gardein veggie burger
1 tortilla
lettuce, tomato, avocado
small dice pickled jalapeno peppers
agave syrup

after you grill your veggie burger place it in one corner of the tortilla and drizzle agave on it in a light crisscross pattern.
put the diced jalapenos on top of that and then the rest of the toppings.
fold entire thing into quarters.
it's the heat mixed with the sweet that does the trick.

*no animals were harmed making this burger.

enjoy your weekend and be kind b/c the alternative stinks.

  1. I may try it this weekend, I just need to get the burgers, I have all the other ingredients because I just made enchiladas on Wednesday.

    1. Janet,

That receipt sounds delicious. I must try the Gardein garden burgers.

  2. Gosh, that looks good! I've never tried veggie burgers so I'll have to get brave.

  3. Fabulous-! I have tried Boca burgers and found them so-so. I've got to try these. Thanks.

Janet you are helping to dispel the notion that the vegan way of eating (of being!) is difficult and drab. For me, refining my diet from vegetarian to vegan and then to no added oil/no sugar completely changed
not only my well-being but my taste buds and cravings. as a former sugar/fat addict, i'm still amazed that these things hold no appeal for me any longer. even unsweetened dried fruit seems overly sweet for me. having said that, i've never eaten better!
people need to be educated not only about the health and environmental benefits, but also about the deliciousness of this way of life...
the vegan diet can be one of the most varied and creative diets out there-!!

Yes - a vegan diet can be quite varied, and as limitless in possibilities as your imagination. ...

  4. that looks dElish! I've never put mine in a tortilla before...we're grilling out tomorrow so looks like I'll be having this same meal. I found a jalapeno/red pepper jelly at Trader Joes that I smother on mine. Also I'm addicted to the TJ eggplant patties ... I've probably had 4 this week alone! :)

    Have a happy weekend!

  5. This is an excellent blog to visit, I love your burger and Sarah's eggplant patty idea.

Lunchtime here in 35minutes, can one of you whip me up something delish?

    xo J.

  6. Mmm, I love avocado on a veggie burger! Such a shame I made guac last night. And ate all of it.

  7. Looks delish! I'll have to try the gardein patty as I haven't found any meatless burgers that taste quite right to me.
You enjoy the weekend as well Janet!

  10. OK I'm hungry now and it's mid morning...
you could be a food photographer for a glossy mag Janet.

I still can't get over how great you look in your new trench coat.
    You must be thrilled.

  11. Yummy! We don't have this brand in the UK but I love a vegetarian burger al fresco when the sun's shining and the booze is flowing freely! Have a great weekend. x

  16. It looks really yummy....I will have to try it! You might convert me yet ;o)
    Have a great weekend!!!!!

  17. Just wanted to thank you for telling us about these. I found some at Whole Foods when you recommended them a while back and they were a big hit. My daughter is a vegetarian and I am about 90% vegetarian (the men in my family occasionally eat grass fed beef and fish). Normally I like to prepare most food from scratch ... but (whew!) I was in need an easy meal and these tortilla burgers look great. Can't wait to try them. Sort of a mix between a burger, a falafel sandwich and a taco all rolled into one. Nice!

  18. I always order veggie burgers when out - they can be so wonderfully delicious!

  19. I had never heard of the Gardein brand before reading about it here on your blog. I found the burgers and am hooked! My husband absolutely loves them too. I'll be making the tortilla burgers for us for dinner tomorrow night. Thanks for the inspiration and for your lovely blog!

  20. yum! i love gardein products, especially the veggie burger. and you know TJ is carrying chickenless crispy tenders - the vegan grapevine says they are actually using the gardein product but under the TJ label. thanks for the yummy burger idea! happy weekend!

  21. Sounds delish- I'll be right over;) Back in Dallas at a favorite Mexican restaurant (we had many;) they served a small dish with chips that was roasted jalapenos that had then been minced and honey..... so good!
hope you and Larry are having a lovely weekend!

  22. Janet,
At first, I honestly thought it was a typo. I must try this gardein brand.
If it looks as lovely as your image....hmmm. A "drizzlez" was where you had me.

  23. dear janet,
i am glad you found me, now i found your beautiful world.
i browsed through your past post. i love cooking and other things like
you do. although i am not vegeterian, i like creating things with
lots of vege and other things. this tortilla burger looks
    so yammy with avocaco.

i am having raining day off morning. hope your day is
filled withs sunshine and peaceful things.
