have you ever had one of those days that you think you'll go crazy if you don't sink your teeth into something besides a salad or pasta?
yesterday was that kind of day.
yesterday was that kind of day.
this is a gardein veggie burger, one of the best tasting veggie burgers i've ever had. i recently discovered this new brand and i couldn't be happier. pronounced gardeen, it's a combination of garden and protein.
i combined the patty, with an old-fashioned fluffy white bun and hipstered it up by smearing it with homemade fig marmalade, fresh garden lettuces, sweet maui onions, chopped tomatoes and spicy mustard.
yum.

It doesn't look like that brand is in our area yet. Our current favorites are Morningstar mushroom or black bean burgers. I'll have to gussy up some burgers next time we have them!
ReplyDeletetarget is selling them!
DeleteYum, I am always looking for a great veggie burger. I am allergic to soy so I have to be careful. Sounds great! Hugs, Bonnie
ReplyDeletei do think there is soy in these bonnie.
DeleteBonnie,
DeleteIf you haven't tried Amy's California Veggie Burgers, they don't have soy

Janet,
Your receipt sounds delicious and the photograph is inspiring
That really does look good and I think the fig marmalade and sweet maui onions must have made it over the top delicious. I'm sauteing shallots right now and wish I had Gardein burger to put them on!
ReplyDeleteannie you will love them, esp. with shallots. yum.
DeleteThat burger looks delicious! I wish I had one right now.
ReplyDeleteIs that fig marmalade made by you...if so, I'll take a jar! :)
yep, it's my homemade jam. i think i'm on my last jar. next batch for sure.
DeleteWhat brand of buns do you use? The only buns I have been able to find without dairy in them are Oroweat's whole wheat hamburger buns. We check the ingredients each time we buy them because last year without warning Oroweat begin adding dairy to their whole wheat bread. If they do that with their buns, don't know what we will use.
ReplyDeletei'm not sure what brand this is. i'll check on it for you.
DeleteOh this looks so yummy!!! And I love the epilogue* I`m a vegan myself and I know how rare we are in the blogosphere. Love your blog!

DeleteSounds great. I think I'll just have fig jam and mustard, please. Hold the fries.
ReplyDeletenow that's just crazy talk.
DeleteOMG, Janet...I devour every one of your recipes and this will be no different! I just received some fig jam and I love Gardein, too and the baked potato or sweet potato fries, homemade, are like the icing on the cake...or, in this case, the olive oil on the root!
ReplyDeleteYummy!
Chris
thanks so much chris. there isn't a potato i don't love!
DeleteThat sounds delicious...especially with your fig marmalade! Oh my gosh! I need to find gardein - I've heard of it, but haven't tried it.
ReplyDeletejulie they are selling it at target now.
DeleteHello Janet:
ReplyDeleteThis really does look a delicious way of healthy eating. Home made fig marmalade sounds absolutely perfect. Do you have it to export?!!
That looks delicious, I'm salivating and it's only just gone 8am. I love a vegeburger but I've never tried fig marmalade to accompany it. x
ReplyDeleteI'm home alone tonight and this is the perfect inspiration for an easy Friday night dinner for one.
ReplyDeleteI have to second all the comments above - looks and sounds great. Thanks for the recommendation on a new brand to try.

Boca Chik'n patty, apricot fruit spread, spicy mustard, sweet onion, chopped cherry tomatoes, and red leaf lettuce on a fluffy bun with mashed sweet potatoes flavored up with Earth Balance.
