This is as close as I'll get to having another man in my life. I'm so not kidding. He's perfect in every way. He just sits there and looks gorgeous all day. Asks nothing of me and he is always looking at me with dreamy eyes and a wry smile.
Seriously though, how would I ever date a man? It's been 4 years and I've never even seen someone I'd be interested in let alone them in me. The whole thing seems impossible. So I'll just stick with this guy. What should his name be. He's 19th c French. Help me out. x
What a looker! His name is Edmund Rochester Fairfax III of Heathcliff Hall, obvs.

ReplyDeleteAlthough you're sad to have lost the love of your life, gain comfort from the fact that you were so blessed to have had true love! I think your portrait man looks like a Pierre, Andre or Jules. I pray for God to bless and guide your continued journey. xo
ReplyDeletethank u so much. i take great comfort in the fact that i was so lucky to be married to the love of my life for 40 yrs. x
Deleteloving all these so much!
ReplyDeleteFrançoise, Louis-Philippe
ReplyDeleteHis name is Louis but be sure to pronounce it the French way.
ReplyDeleteHis name is Louis but be sure to pronounce it the French way. (not sure if earlier under Rose went thru).
ReplyDeleteHow about a nod to Larry's great great grandfather - whatever his name is? :) LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!
ReplyDeletei believe that would make him a william or a henry
DeletePatrice Pierre Maurice, you fill in the last name! Real name of guy I dates in the 70's! jd
ReplyDeleteMonsieur Henri Francois Du Faisan (French for Pheasant) ;)
ReplyDeleteHe's gorgeous. PS: I understand your feelings about this portrait. I'm a former domestic historian (with a focus on the mid-19th century), and I have serious feelings for (1) an 1860's daguerrotype of a super handsome dude, and (2) a Regency-era portrait of an equally-gorgeous guy.
ReplyDeletelove love this corrie!
DeleteHe looks like Andre Philippe to me! Such a handsome fellow!
ReplyDeleteArmand,i think!!!!
ReplyDeletecongratulations! definately a keeper Darby
ReplyDeleteHe’s looking pretty powerful…a force to be reckoned with…Jacques deLissips Bagauche III related to Cardinal Richelieu. He’s a wealthy and sought after scoundrel.
ReplyDeleteLeslie
Hostess of the Humble Bungalow
Oh! I do believe this is Lancelot du Lac, a wealthy landowner in the French countryside. He is v mysterious and keeps to himself but has the most amazing gardens.
ReplyDeletelove this!
DeleteOh, la la. He is very handsome indeed. Here are a few more, some familiar, others less so: Jean-Jacques and Jean-Luc, Guillaume, Étienne, Laurent, Thierry, Maël, Sebastien.
ReplyDeleteEduoard de Phillipe
ReplyDeleteFor some reason he looks like a James to me.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Maurice to me, (70s reference "The Joker"). Anyone remember that song? Damn, now I'm going to be humming it all day. Anyway he is gorgeous and another wonderful find that looks so right in your home.

Well, good morning, Gérard!

Henri. Blue blood, single, decorator. Perfect for you. You are so wrong about no one being interested in you , my hollywood friend.
ReplyDeletehave we met? i love this name henri and that he is a decorator. trust me no one is interested in me!
DeleteFrançois, Antoine, Phillipe, or Pierre get my vote. He's wonderful - I'm sure you'll find the perfect name for him. I can imagine many men being interested in you. And I can totally understand you finding it impossible to imagine being interested in any of them back. Always wonderful to see a post from you.
ReplyDeleteOh he's got to be a Thierry or an Etienne de Navarre. Definitely French aristocracy ready to fight a duel for you.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Jean-Luc. Yes I know, a bit Star Trek but I still think the name sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI second Jean Luc. I was in my early 20s when Star Trek came out and I determined Jean Luc Picard was the perfect man. All these decades later and that opinion hasn't changed.
DeleteI have no suggestions for a name but he sure looks good with that whole curated look you have going on.

Okay - I'm going to be the odd man out and say I would name him Bob- walk by him every morning....Good Morning Bob....what are we doing today? I've been widowed for 3 years now and recently met someone (I'm a designer...He's a builder). Met through our friends that are renovating/adding on. I have to admit it was and still is so strange, I was so closed off and never expected to meet anyone...but now I'm so glad I did - even if it doesn't last I'm just thankful. He woke me up out of my grief.
ReplyDeletePam! i'm so excited for you. i cannot even imagine finding someone to hang out with even! So thrilled for u tho. I do like the idea of walking by and saying hi to him. haha!
DeleteFernand! (It means Adventurer)
ReplyDeleteLove your sense of humor, and I’m getting a kick out of these comments. I hope they make you smile.
ReplyDeleteHis name is Monsieur Dujardin of course!
ReplyDeleteAs for his first name he looks like a Gaultier to me.
Louise in Az
He looks very at home in your lovely room. I think he looks quite aristocratic - although I don't think he's handsome...something to do with the heavy chin! - so, Patrice seems a good name for him.
ReplyDeleteHarland!! He's english, loves his rose garden and a good whiskey.
ReplyDeleteGaston
ReplyDeletePhilibert or Placide
ReplyDeleteAny of the above except Pierre.
ReplyDeleteName him Steve . Give them all something to talk about . 😉

ReplyDeleteOMG, I found you. How can this be; I was just randomly surfing. A long time ago now, my computer 'system' rejected your site and wouldn't let me in, saying you were infected. I've wondered about you so many times. I can't wait to see what I've missed. I'll keep reading. Janet, I am SO glad to know you are okay. I'm Vicki who lives north of you at the coast, about 120 miles. I once visited your blog a lot. Ten years ago? I still refer to many of your recipes which I printed off. I'll have to try to recall how long you've been without Larry by now. I was impressed of how you gave him so much dignity when choosing exactly the right words to tell us of his days in the final, heartbreaking journey of his life. Your readers don't have to shudder that I've rediscovered you; I've learned to edit my comments better (when necessary) because I write for a local newspaper now and they keep me to a word limit if I want my articles published (I've improved!). I'll watch what I ever write here; promise. Have missed you!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicki. of course i remember u! your long comments never bothered me but they did annoy others and that's ok. it's been almost 4 and a half years since larry passed. feels like yesterday still tho. i'm trying to make a comeback but it isn't easy. i reconfigured (with help) my blog to be 100% ad free with larger photos. i like it a lot better. still struggle a bit to write but i'm coming along. glad to hear from u and hope u stick around. xo
DeleteA lot has happened in the last several years! I used to follow your blog, but stopped due to a health issue (brain cancer). It’s been 7 yrs now. Stopped doing a lot of the things I used to do. Used to live in central FL, but moved to Apple Valley, CA to be closer to the kids & grand kids. I’m not too far from your town. Trying to get used to the arid climate here. So sorry to hear about Larry. Read thru old posts to find out where life has taken you. Not quite used to this gardening zone. I’ll be starting a rose garden soon, full of David Austin roses. I have several fruit trees & plants on standby till the weather warms up in March. So glad I found you again!
