Have you seen this?  100 Years of Fashion in 2 minutes

Thank you to Melissa at All Things Simplified for sharing on her blog.

  1. The sixties for me! If I could wear those little short tops with the portrait collars I would. Except with the back zip skinny ankle pants! Straight out of an Elvis movie! Funny I saw your comment to me yesterday on the "how are you" post, but today it's gone.

    1. omgosh lisa, that is what's driving me mad. it won't even allow me to publish awaiting comments now. i'm wondering if it has something to do with windows 10? even L's computer is acting up.

oh i love the sixties too. and i love slim black capri pants. xoxo

    2. Janet, I was thinking about something...your computer woes...why don't you just start a new post that says, Replies to 'How Are You?" and just pick out the commenters who didn't get a reply...that you felt you wanted to reply to and couldn't...and have the new post be a compilation of all your answers to those people. Just go thru the original post and make a list of everybody who you couldn't answer, then start the new post and list them..."To Jane Doe," then your response to the comment they'd left. "To John Doe," then your response to the comment they'd just left. And so on and so on. The rest of us can just refer back to the original post to match response with response. Just a thought. Because it is frustrating you and then would be less stressful! Just a way to maybe finish the incomplete task! That whole original post was very, very interesting...I personally would be interested to know all of your replies to the heartfelt comments left. Or, on the other hand, I think everybody understands by now that your computer has sort of 'crippled' you temporarily; and you're never under obligation to reply to commenters anyway, in my opinion. It's just you're so nice about it and you've created such a lovely community here...because of it.

    3. good idea vicki. i started working on it yesterday and nothing would save. people are leaving comments that their comments or my reply is disappearing. i just have to let it go for a few days and see what happens.

  2. That was fun! Thanks for sharing. I'm with you; I think fashion went to heck in a handbasket sometime in the 80s.

  3. Very clever!
The 80's were a terrible time for fashion...shoulder pads power suits and BIG hair!
    (and I wore them all)

  4. loved this video.... And so remembered the "L" hand signal over the forehead in the 90's late and early 2000's as to meaning LOOSER! :)

I think I am 1915 and 2015 loving the old western prairie plains and the torn and tattered layering of Jeans, silks, and leathers. :)

Again another fun post from your mountain top.

  5. The eighties made me laugh out loud, and cringe. Big hair and shoulder pads. I had a black Norma Kamali dress with the biggest shoulder pads! My hair can get pretty big, too. Thank goodness that was temporary and did not last long. I suppose somewhere between the 50-70's, is more me. I do love hats. Don't wear often, though. This was fun.

  6. Janet, That is a cool video! The 80's makeup she was wearing reminds me of myself back then, you should see my wedding pics from 1984. Haha

So interesting how fashion has shifted from dressy to super casual!

I think now I'm probably more between 2005-2015, with a little 70's thrown in.

  7. Thanks for this. I concur with Anonymous - much of fashion sure has gone downhill since the 80s. Before the 80s all the looks were charming in this video. From the 80s on - yikes!

  8. Hadn't seen that, so much fun, although I did feel a little for the model in her underwear so many times:).

I'm gonna say the 1930s, and then again today. They seem most suited to a broad-shouldered woman, one who likes her clothes loose-fitting, but with a little style and glamor:).

    1. I'm thinking if I looked like that in my undies, I'd be pretty comfortable with wearing nothing else!

  9. I'm thinking I liked 2005 best, when mom-jeans went out and hip hugger bell bottoms came back. I was 47 and felt like a teenager again. But don't worry, my own teenagers kept me aware of reality :) I'm not too keen on the current look, blouses half tucked in and half hanging out, and everything baggy and like you don't give a dang. I don't think it flatters anyone!

  11. Fun video! I've loved boho fashion since my teens. Now that I'm in my late 40s, my body is dictating my style. I'm tall and lanky, with toned arms. But the rest of me is slowly drooping... the 1925 dress is my style in terms of personal preference and what would actually look good on me.

  12. I admire the clothes, especially couture, from the mid 50s to the mid 60s. I don't wear those clothes myself, but I love them, by looking at old dress patterns, vintage Vogue covers, etc. I look back at how I dressed from late 60s to late 70s and have to laugh.

  13. Completely off topic, but I just saw this video and I thought you might enjoy it, maybe you've already seen it...

On topic - I grew up in the 80s (yikes), I love the look of the 50/60/70s - but I feel most comfortable in the look of 2015

  16. 1930's, so elegant. I was young in the sixties, tiny skirts, geometric hair, oh to be that size again! My wedding dress was a white crochet mini dress & I mean mini!

  17. Yes, saw it a couple of days ago, love the 20's and 30's, it has been all downhill since the 80's. Read this article this week, the UK Vogue editor pretty much sums up today's fashions for me "overpriced and ugly!"

    1. just read it and the author is right! what an awful mess. and you know what makes me scratch my head the most is that anna wintour dresses so lovely. lovely dresses and cardigans every day and why don't pretty looks such as hers make the inside of the magazine? too boring? makes me crazy. thanks for sharing. x

    2. I will turn 68 soon but in my mind I'm only in my late 40's in my, hahaha yes I'm delusional. Clothes shopping has always been a challenge for me, although I'm not overweight (well maybe 10 lbs) I think that my legs are too short, boobs are too big, waist is too long, (especially for dressses) A few years back I actually worked in fashion for 8 years, it was fun...I lived in black. That work experience gave me lots of great stories and a love of fashion in the sense that I appreciate the creativity and find that it can be rather entertaining but.....in no way are most of the fashions presented yearly my reality. Now like you I live in jeans, tees, sweaters and hoodies except on Sunday when I wear a skirt to church. I really love all that you do with your clever shopping and wardrobing. I find it a real challenge to find clothes that work for my age but don't make me look dowdy....the fall color and fashions leave everything to be desired...like really classic, wearable beautiful styles.

  19. Hello, I love your blog and your fashion sense too, love everything about it :) I left a comment on the post with you at the Farmer's Market a few posts down and asked a few questions, but a few days later I went to check to see if you had answered my questions and my comment was gone :( I mainly said that I had ordered the Target cross-over bag that I love and I was wondering where you got your cute sunglasses, will mainly the brand name, etc. I have a small face and it's so hard to find sunglasses that are smaller and these look smaller in the lens than most. I was also wondering about the cute jeans you had on. I love all your jeans, so any help on that would help too.

Also, I have always read Sarah's blog "One Day with Sarah" and went to visit her and it was gone, how sad! Do you know if she's okay, and if she just stopped blogging, or moved somewhere else? I just loved her too!

thank you, hopefully this post won't disappear :) xo

    1. thanks sandy. i'm sorry your comment disappeared on that post. i thought i was only having trouble with one of my posts so this is most distressing. yesterday i was trying to post something and everything i wrote would not save so i'm def having blogger issues.

glad you like the crossbody bag. i'll be using mine today at the farmers market.:)
it took me years to find those small aviator sunglasses, years! they are ralph lauren. i know what you mean about having a small face, it is difficult to find the right fit. i bought the jeans at the goodwill but the brand is lauren conrad for kohls.

i just checked sarah's blog and she did indeed close it. i sent her 2 emails but both email addresses are down. i will keep trying to contact her. x

    4. Aren't you all the sweetest....thank you so much. I stopped my One Day blog for a personal / family related (messy) reason. So I really wasn't able to keep all the past posts. I really enjoy blogging so I did start a new, under a completely different name so it wasn't tied to One Day. it's http://thisistheroadtohere.blogspot.com/ Thank you so much for thinking of me. Janet, you have the best readers. ♥ Sarah

    5. awwww so wonderful to hear from you dear Sarah, I really love your blog, it's like reading a wonderful novel the way you write so elegantly! I will be over! I understand those messy family things! If they don't support you, you don't need them. And thank you so much dear Janet for your lovely reply! I will try to save up to get those awesome glasses and hopefully find the jeans :) have a wonderful day! "take a hike" for me ! lol There is nothing better in the world than getting out in the woods, mountains, etc and walking and taking hike adventures! xoxo ~Sandy :)

  20. That was a fun video. In a similar vein have you seen this on Youtube - 100 years / Style / East London? I could watch it over and over.
