on fathers

happy fathers day larry korff.
i mention you here and there on this blog but people don't really know you.
i rarely, if ever write family/sappy-type posts, so brace yourselves.

things that have made you a good father...

1.  always being present.  from the minute we became parents, you were in it with me.
whatever it took, you were there.  neither of us knew what the heck we were doing but we formed a team and got it done.  thank you for playing on my team.

2.  thank you for teaching me how to let boys be boys.  what did i know about boys?  nothing.  being the youngest of 3 girls, boys were aliens to me.  thank you for letting them experience everything boys need to experience w/o a frantic mom trying to stop them.  i cannot thank you enough for teaching them how to camp, ride dirt bikes, how to ski, swim...fill in the blank, coaching every team they were ever on, never missing a school event.   and through it all giving me time home alone to rest and relax and be a girl.

3.  thank you for always putting us first.  whatever we needed, we got.
you always put yourself last.

4.  thank you for instilling adventure in us all.  all you ever had to do was mention the word camping, dirt bikes or skiing and in 10 minutes flat your truck was loaded with gear, the boys and even a few extra neighbor kids, all trying to keep up with you.

5.  above all thank you for being a man of integrity.  always leading by example, hard work and discipline, not preaching, well sometimes preaching.:)

i love you!

happy fathers day weekend everyone.

  1. You two are gorgeous!
My dad would have been 92, I miss him so much, he was a riot, and a wonderful Dad. Hope your handsome man and dad enjoys his day.

  2. Your boys are lucky to have him. So are you. While boys are pretty alien to me, too (although I do have two brothers), I was glad that my ex was always there doing all the things you mention with my girls. They were always thrilled when Daddy threw the tent and the gear in the back of the boat, because they knew they were going camping, kayaking, fishing and adventure-ing. Men are handy for that kind of stuff. And girls like it too. I hope Larry (and you!!) have a perfectly lovely Father's day - you both deserve it.

  7. Awwww..... what a wonderful tribute! Happy Father's Day Larry!

How recent is that first pic? You don't seem to have much gray hair and I thought you were no longer coloring it (or did I miss something?). :)

  10. OK, it was a bit mushy.... and I LOVED every single word (she said brushing away a tear or two). There are lots of men who don't know how to be good husbands or good dads - Larry is a gem! Whenever you do mention him on your blog, it is always with love, respect and appreciation. Your sons are lucky, are how fortunate that you and Larry are such a great team. Thanks for sharing these wonderful thoughts, and I hope Larry was beaming when he read them.

  26. what a beautiful post. My dad says the measure of a man is how he takes care of his family.

I hope one day my son can think those sort of things about me. I hope so.

You are so lucky to have had him there from the get go helping you parent because doing it alone is very hard. I always think with a 2nd pair of hands that I would be Unstoppable!

xxxxx PS I went to a Black and Spiro sale today. It was excellent. Wish you were there x

  33. Hi Janet,
First, you two are a really good looking couple -- that's not important, but I couldn't help notice. Second, that was a really beautiful post. I don't think you could say anything nicer about a man. And to feel so strongly after all these years is amazing. You are a well matched pair of genuinely good hearted people. So happy you found each other.

Janet, this brought tears to my eyes! Especially the first point, because I had my first baby boy only a few weeks ago. My husband has been an amazing support and has been "in it" the whole time...it's hard to put into words how nice it is. Such a blessing to have such a lovely man who is also a calming influence. Beautiful post :)

  43. Awww, so sweet. He's all that and made a great babysitter too!!! I remember him babysitting "all the kids" so me and you could go to a concert that he got us tickets to.....I can't remember which one, maybe Prince. He's a funny guy, even when he gets nervous about us "picking on certain pedaling individuals"...ahahaha (which of course we would never do). And while we love him, he loves you. Happy belated Father's Day Larry.
