Historic on Highland Part 2

Oh My Gosh hello everyone.  How was your Thanksgiving?  I'm sorry I've not written here in awhile but to be honest writing here is so challenging.  Blogger if you are listening, which I know you are not...what have you done?  It is a miracle today that I've gotten these photos to post correctly.  There is one photo below that I cannot remove so you'll just have to see it.  lol.  Anyway stop complaining Janet and show everyone Mary's house.  If you go back one post you will see her dining room which was the first room we did way back in May possibly?  So the above image is what her entry looks like now.  We added the leopard runner and small side table and mirror.  In person it is drop dead.  Seriously just killer.

Before.  Just a little dull.

I swear that mirror is not crooked.  I'm guessing I am?  But you can see the dining room is to the right of the entry for reference.

This is the view to the left of the entry.  Just beyond is a gorgeous sun room which I'll get to later.

This is a photo of the living room before.  This was the first day I saw the house.  Mary's office is at the back there and I'll get to that later too.  Mary had just moved here and her last house was farmhouse/boho style.  It just didn't fit here and so slowly but surely we replaced everything with classic furniture more fitting of the house.  Almost everything we used is 2nd hand which you know I love.

When I look at this photo I want to cry with happiness.  This house is so incredibly beautiful it takes my breath away.  Other than the sofa every last thing in this room we scavenged, scrounged, begged, borrowed or stole.  We din't steal anything but I am sorta dramatic.

Before photo.  We kept her Restoration Hardware Sofa

We found these vintage Audubon prints that are perfect.  All art in the house is hung with chain from the original picture moulding.

This is the photo I could not remove.  Ugh

Before.  This is viewing the room from the opposite side of the room.

After.  Mary had these Ikea shelves that were black and we (she) spray painted them gold and put little finials at the corners.

This is perhaps my favorite room.  I don't have a good photo of the before but we added this Schumacher Zanzibar wallpaper in Sand and OMG.  This is her office and I don't know how she gets anything done in here.

Some of you may recognize my old wicker desk in its new home.  We found the chandelier at an estate sale.

I don't have any before pictures of the sunroom but we found this vintage set of wicker at an estate sale and lots of pretty little things and dang it's beautiful.

Thanks for hanging in there waiting for me to finish.  I just finished the little study/tv room but I don't have any befores and my afters didn't come out so great but I will keep trying.  It's a bloody miracle this is getting posted today.  I seriously don't know how to continue here.  I know I'm not the only one with these issues.  Maybe I'll have to just do IG?  I don't know.  BUT I so hope you enjoyed this post.  It was such a pleasure working with Mary and her gorgeous lovely family.  I actually feel part of her family now bc I've spent so much time there.  They are probably sick of me!  Part of me is sad that the job is finished and part of me is overjoyed that it is.  It was a labor or love as they say.  I've never considered myself a decorator - more of a collector but whatever I am it was fun.  x

  2. Absolutely beautiful, Janet! If I didn’t comment on the dining room post, I sure meant to. That room turned out beautifully as well. I will probably go back several times and look at everything, which is what I do when you post photos of your lovely home. I’m so happy when I see a post from you, and am sorry you’re having trouble with Blogger. Frustrating for you and disappointing for those of us that look forward to every post you share. How wonderful that you’ve had this fun project to keep you busy during these crazy times. I hope you can get the blog figured out, but if not, I happily follow you on Instagram as well. Take care. Xo

  3. It's beautiful! And I love, love that you looked for things second hand. That's what I do too. There is SO much good stuff out there on the used market. This may lead to more work for you. You have an amazing touch! The spray painted Ikea shelves was genius.

  15. Absolutely gorgeous! I just love your style, Janet. It's so refreshing to see interiors with personality and character...something that comes together beautifully with collected pre-loved pieces vs. everything showroom new. I'm drooling over that wicker desk!

  23. You did a great job, the rooms feel light, classy and interesting. Mary must be thrilled and you’ve earned your place at her family’s table!
I’m the same with Blogger Janet, I haven’t posted in months, just too difficult. Blogging takes up a lot of time already on a platform that works and this new version just doesn’t.

  28. Hi Janet. My heart skipped a beat when I saw that you'd posted. Distressing that blogging has become such a challenge as one of my favorite things is to see what you're doing and how you're doing it. This project is stellar -- thanks so much for sharing the sunshiny rooms and uncluttered spaces. The way things are now, it's so soothing to be reminded of the beautiful things. You did a magnificent job. Lucky Mary, but I still love your house the best. xo karen

  32. Sooooo HaPpY to see you back to blogging a bit, your post was a "sight for sore eyes". Good to see you engaged in this project, these are hard times, I'm finding it hard to get motivated, too, so you are an inspiration. Please take care & do what's best for you, please know though that you have many fans who love you!

  34. I love it all but especially the sunroom! Good job.

  35. Like all others, I was delighted to see a post from you. You are a collector, but your home shows that you are also a decorator. I think what I always loved most when you changed things in your home was that it didn't take a total revamp to give things a fresh look. You seemed to stick with the 'bones' of your decor & tweak with accessories, different color accents or plants. To me that's a gift.

The Historic on Highland is a good example of staying true to the nature of the home, but adding just enough to highlight its strengths...never to take away from the original. You have a deft hand when it comes to decorating. Less is truly more.

    ...all is grace

  36. Beautiful job, Janet. It's elegant but playful, a difficult look to accomplish. I usually don't like wallpaper because it tends to overwhelm a room, but the way you used it here, between the paneling and molding, looks great. I love it! And the patterns are bold but easy on the eye. After you take a well-deserved break, come and redo my house. ;)

  38. What a treat to see your post pop up today. You are so talented, and Mary's house looks exquisite. I love every detail, and the fact that you have found pre-loved and beautiful pieces. If only I could whisk you over to Australia to cast your magic spell over my house :) Know what you mean re Blogger; I haven't posted for over a month, it is two things: the new blogger and the pandemic putting us all out of normal existence. Hugs and best wishes. x

  43. Oh, Janet, this is so beautiful it made me want to cry. I think you aren't a decorator, you're an artist - you've taken this house way beyond the usual. It's as if you've restored the soul of the house. That wall paper in the office and the dining room are genius. And the carpet runner, as someone else said, right out of the park! You've honoured the age of the house and then given it something more than it might ever have had. Ever. Mary and her family must be so grateful
Please keep blogging. I love seeing your house and anything else you want to blog about. You're a huge inspiration to me. Thank you.

  44. Wow, just wow! Thank you for persevering with Blogger, because it's the only email I received this week that I wanted to see! Everything is beautiful, and it's amazing that you do so much with second hand items; just incredible! I Looooove getting my email from you, so I really hope you won't only post on Instagram. Thank you for sharing!

  45. Oh my! The transformation is absolutely gorgeous.

Great to see you back! I check almost everyday to see if you made a post. I am sorry you are having a hard time posting here, but it is so much better and easier to read than Instagram. Your blog is so peaceful,I enjoy reading it and find it very therapeutic. On my Instagram, there are too many advertisements and it is so cluttered now. I used to love Instagram but since Facebook bought it, it is too commercialized with too many distractions.

You have absolutely found your calling. I am so happy for you.

    Sincerely,
    Debra from SENC

  50. Hi Janet! Sometimes when I do not have new blog posts to read, I go to a favorite blog and read posts from a year ago, two years ago, etc. all from the same month. May I say that your older posts sure hold up over time! It must be because you have such a classic style in all aspects of your life. Nothing seems dated. Just a little encouragement for you as you struggle with blogger. Let us know if you move to another platform and I know we will all follow you there! Happy New Year!

  51. Happy New Year Janet. 2020 is behind us and although challenges continue I remain positive and hopeful. Our family experienced many milestones and joyful things in 2020, we are resilient. Mid February my husband will get our first covid shot and hope that it will allow us to return to the gym.

I have looked at this post so many times since you posted it in early December. I absolutely love all the changes that you made. What an excellent eye and talent you have Janet. I can't believe all the wonderful finds/furniture you found during the time of Covid. You simply have a magical touch. I miss your postings and like so many others go back and view pasts posts just to have a touch of Janet in my life.

I hope you are will and finding joy in the small things, close family and friends. Your postings are missed but I understand if you simply don't wish to continue writing. Wishing you nothing but good things to come your way in 2021.

  55. Janet, this is so gorgeous!! You should be seriously offering your interior design services as your style is stunning. Love that you make a concerted effort to find suitable vintage pieces for the home above and not resort to something from a high street store. Don't hide your candle under a bushel!
