ralph lauren purple label jacket

Ralph Lauren clothes all have different colored labels signifying different styles and quality of his clothing.  Anything that has a purple label on it from Ralph Lauren comes from his "Collection" line, meaning it was on the runway and the prices are astronomical.  You can take a peek here just for fun. The jacket probably originally sold for between $2k-3k.  Last December M and and I were out in the desert going through thrift stores and I stumbled upon the above jacket.  It fits perfectly and was in perfect condition.  Six dollars, no lie.  I went home and scrolled through his runway shows and found it paired with this sequined skirt.

Made of 100% wool and lined in silk, it is quite luxurious.

Made in the USA.

Here it is in a crooked photo with thrift store ripped jeans and thrift store brown kitten heels. So classy.  lol

I am continually amazed at what I find in yard sales, thrift stores and even antique stores.  This definitely goes down at one of my best finds.  On another note, Country Living Magazine has been contacting me lately with lots of little details.  My house will be in the April issue which means it'll be on the news stand in March.  I'm excited and terrified at the same time. x

  1. What a great find! I am an avid second hand shopper and have found many wonderful items too. Last year, I found an Armani Collezio navy blazer (with tags still) in my exact size for $15. It retails for about $2000! I pair it jeans and flats too!

  4. What a pretty jacket. I'm always hustling to find clothing to sell in my eBay store. I picked up a purple label Ralph Lauren sweater in a thrift shop and made a handsome profit for sure! Like you, I can't believe the fantastic stuff I find on the used market. I have convinced most of my family to drop retail and go for gently used. I am the family "finder" and this really helps my family dress well. (Think nieces and nephews with student loans!)

  8. Wow, Janet...you rock! And you really rock that jacket! I'm not a good thrift store shopper...just not patient enough I think.

One of my best friends was in Country Living several years ago. She has a beautiful stone farmhouse here in PA & she felt exactly as you do. As I remember, they come in & kind of take over. I think in the end it was fairly painless.

  19. Janet...OMG you look so adorable!!! What a great find!!

You never know what you are going to find at thrift stores but I hear the ones in Palm Springs are pretty amazing. I went to an estate sale this weekend. Sat. and Sun. again when things were 50% off. It was a mid-century home near my house. I walked away with some really great finds at awesome prices. Most to sell on eBay but did keep some Greek Key fabric that I plan on making pillows from. Even got 3 showroom fabric remnants of some Kelly Wearstler fabric. I only find sales like that maybe once a year but when I do it's like I hit the motherlode!

Can't wait for your magazine to come out...be sure to let us know when it hits the news stands! :)

  25. No better shopping hit than a true bargain, go you! I'm on a 3 month sabbatical from shopping for clothes, not long, but truth be told it feels good - less stressful when I go out knowing I can't buy anything!
PS I live in the UK so won't see your house in CL, any chance you could do a post about the feature?

  26. This estate sale junkie says the RL jacket is a great find. Now, if I could just whittle myself down to a size 4 ...... My recent great find was a weatherproof shopping bag full of clothes sitting in my reserved parking space in my complex. Where they came from, I haven't a clue. No one came back to claim them, so I did. Amazing. Not RL, but some great brands for a young professional, all size XS, and I think I know where to pass them along. :-)

  30. I can't wait to see it! Love the coat! I've had outrageously good thrifting luck lately. Cause, you know, I need more stuff. I found a faux bamboo side table today for $15!

  32. You find the most amazing things Janet. And, I love how you took the time to find that runway picture online. The best thing I ever found was an authentic vintage gucci purse. Navy, with the red stripe. It's an exciting feeling when you find something good! Looking forward to the April mag!

  33. I never find "finds" at our thrift stores and have given up. It may just be the area that I live in and would have better luck in a larger city. Next time I go to Boston I will give it a try.

Can't wait to see the Country Living spread. It almost feels like having a friend being featured. I used to subscribe to CL, but gave up all subscriptions. Maybe, I will subscribe again.

  34. It is such fun when you show us your vintage finds, Janet. You've really got the eye to spot the right stuff. I appreciate the little 'education' about RL and purple labels; I didn't know.

    Rain tomorrow; let's hope!

I got my subscription payment off to CL so that I'm sure to have my home copy by the time the gardener's cottage is highlighted. There is nothing for you to be scared about, Janet! Listen to us, 'cause we're your readers and we feel like we know your house pretty well by now...and I'm sure I speak for more than just myself that WE LOVE YOUR COTTAGE. I never, EVER get tired of seeing it when you post photos. I can feel my whole face relax when I see it; you've created a very calming, lovely environment both inside and outside. You have a flair for decorating as you do in your wardrobe; you have GREAT style. So many people do NOT, even when they try to learn how to have it...but, I think it's a gift.

  35. Janet, off the wall question several days into your post...I can't remember from when you and the readers here were exchanging info back and forth about skin care, facials, etc., what your answer was...but I've been considering laser hair removal for a long time because I have rosacea and the waxing/tweezing, etc. is hard on my fragile, sun-damaged facial skin (the dermatologist told me I may have inherited it; Mother had rosacea, too). I want a dermatologist to do it in a medical/clinical setting but I can't find one who will/does (mine doesn't, obviously, nor did he really recommend anybody); it's all non-medical workers who seem to do it. I've read horror stories of inexperienced 'spa' workers not assessing things correctly, and the customer winding up with disfiguring burns.

But my husband had major surgery this week and I learned that the medical practice (not dermatologists) he's going to has a business (in the same building) which is all about skin restoration/peels/laser/Botox I'm sure, the fillers; the works...under the umbrella of these other general surgeons. So, I'm wondering if I've finally found a 'safe' place to explore this further...and my question to you is, from your skin-care knowledge and experience, can rosacea take the laser treatment for hair removal? I'm not trying to have you go out on a limb here...I know you're not a doctor...but as an aesthetician, I know you work with clients who have rosacea and you've said any work has to be the gentle-est. I already fight the beet-red face; I don't want any MORE redness from a laser, God forbid something should go wrong. Like, if I was your sister, how would you weigh in? I'd be so grateful for your thoughts. I'm doing a lot of asking around; I don't just want the opinion of the person who's selling me the treatment. My hormones got whacked out with cancer and surgery/instant menopause. I can't do any hormone replacement therapy due to the cancer...I can't help my hormones/lack of hormones/whatEVER [!]...and the extra hair growth is maddening [horrifying]. I'm losing my eyebrows as I age but gaining a moustache. I'm currently in cancer remission (cancer-free almost 3 yrs!) and am undergoing no kind of cancer-related treatment whatsoever (and I never lost the hair on my head). Anyway, that's enough/TMI, but just trying to provide a little background, like if I was your client and you were counseling me. Maybe I'm wrong to ask you for free advice? If I lived near you, I'd definitely be your client!!!
