roses and prayers please....

For anyone who likes looking at pictures  of old rose gardens...

Melinda and I

If I may ask anyone reading, if you believe in the power of prayer, we could really use them for my dear, dear friend Melinda.  If you've been reading for awhile then you know that back in May of 2011 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is known as the silent killer because by the time symptoms present themselves it is usually already in the late stages. That was the case with Melinda.  She has been through 2 rounds of Chemo and has been doing SO well.  But last week things suddenly took a turn for the worse.  Your prayers and good thoughts would be so appreciated.  Thank you so much.

Here are the warning signs of ovarian cancer.

Take care and have a beautiful weekend.  x

  4. So sorry to hear about your friend Melinda, Janet. Will say a prayer for her. In the church we attend there is an ongoing prayer list for those who need it and a number of our friends are on it. It gives them great comfort to know this. Some friends for whom there is ultimately very little hope have been doing remarkably well and enjoying and making the most of whatever time they have left (in one case it's already been six years when he was initially told around six months). I have such admiration for them as it must be very difficult to face.
On a happier note your roses are absolutely heavenly and they provide such warmth and beauty - they look wonderful against the blues and whites of your porch. Pammie xx

  18. Sending my best wishes to her! Ive known two women who've battled ovarian cancer and it looked especially bleak for one of them. This was in the early '90s and care wasn't nearly what it is today. She clawed her way out and has been healthy ever since. She credits her caring doctors and her deep faith for pulling her out. Hope M is feeling even a little lighter than when you wrote this. I also believe strongly in the power of a good laugh. hope you're coping well too.

  28. I'm so sorry to learn that Melinda is having such a battle with her illness and my thoughts and good wishes are with her for a good outcome. I've been part of a study over a number of years into ovarian cancer and the search for better diagnosis and treatment. I can only hope that a break-through comes soon.
Your garden looks lovely, Janet, now we need to see the newly-painted house as the perfect back-drop to the roses! (I note that the van is colour-coded to the house and looks good!)

  29. Janet, I am so sorry to hear your friend, Melinda has taken a turn for the worse. God absolutely does hear our prayers and I will pray for healing. Your roses are gorgeous. The vase on your porch is stunning. I could not help but think all that beautiful color from the roses will be incredible against the backdrop of your new paint color!

  30. I definitely believe in the power of prayer. I will be lifting up Melinda in her battle with cancer.....that God will give her peace & strength for this battle. I am almost 70, & my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when I was 4 yrs. old. It had progressed without her knowing it, but she lived to the age of 83. I have no doubt that God heard many prayers for her & I was blessed to have her in my life all those years. Melinda does have a future & a hope !!

  34. Prayer worrier here in your camp.... Walking in faith that God is so much bigger then the enemy and a healing is in his hands.
Yes, yes, Melinda is added to our prayer list, I too am dealing with a Friend, a dear friend who has cancer, bone cancer, and 3 tumors in her skull.
I would love it if you could also pray form my sweet dear friend who has a shop space here on our desert and she is not claiming this Cancer, and is giving it to the Lord expecting a healing.

Thank you Janet for reminding us there is so many bigger issues out there then our daily creating.

Lots of beauty and blessings your way.

  52. Dear Janet,

I am a long time reader (5+ years?!), but rarely comment due to the busyness of life (which will settle after the sale of our home and move to a condo is complete). I also cannot post comments from my iPad! I so appreciate your blog. I have enjoyed following your home projects, recipe ideas, struggles and joys with friends and family. They mirror mine, and I suspect everyone reading.

Your house looks adorable and your roses beautiful. We're just seeing the tips of tulips come through the ground here in Wisconsin, so there is the promise of spring to come.

I'm moved to comment now as you ask for prayers for your dear friend Melinda. I've been sending them since you posted. I too have a good friend, my dearest friend in this town that I moved to 4 years ago. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December 2013, and was just pulled from her 2nd course of chemo. The doctors will try something else next week. I pray for your friend and mine, and for a cure for this terrible disease.

    Take care,
    Colleen

  56. I just found your lovely blog today. I will be here often in the future. I am a 20 year ovarian cancer survivor. I was diagnosed at stage 3 which is earlier than many women are. I had a wonderful surgeon who is skilled at debunking, that is a discovery that is now being touted. I was lucky. I had 6 sessions of chemo and several surgeries. I pray for all the women who are battling health issues. I am Gayle on my husband's goggle acct. Every time I try to change it I fail.
