thank you

I just had to tell you guys how much your kind words of advice and encouragement has meant to me. Thank you all for your 2 cents on what I'll wear.  A huge thank you to Mary who went to the Tory Burch outlet near her home and saw the dress I wanted and volunteered to buy it and meet me half-way yesterday.  I am still blown away at that kindness. Unfortunately there was no way I'd be able to drive to Pasadena yesterday to meet her.  But thank you again Mary, I love that dress!  God bless those of you who actually plan weddings out for months or maybe even a year.  The last 10 days have been nothing short of a whirlwind of activity here and the thought of this perpetuating for months...nope, can't imagine it.

In just a few hours guests will be arriving to what we all hope will be a very sweet event.  I have to admit that I was skeptical on a lot of their choices, esp. nixing the caterer!  But it really looks like everything will indeed come together.  Those of you wondering what I'll be wearing will probably not be too surprised that it'll most likely be my black vintage dress.  Alex is kind of directing all our wardrobes so I'm really fine with that. He buys nothing new so it almost seems wrong to wear a new dress.  It'll all be good I just know it.  I'll leave you with a few photos from yesterday because I want to remember what yesterday felt like.  Constant non-stop work.  I slept like a baby last night!  I'll post photos of the wedding just as soon as I can.  Lots of work to do still so I'll see you on the other side. Thank you all again.

  1. Right Janet, when we renew our vows we are doing it at yours! We always wanted to do it at The Hotel Bel Air but the revamp isn't our thing, too modern.

Mary - whoever you are, you are a star!

  15. You know, a wedding is really all about sharing a very important commitment with the special people in your life, and a nice celebration afterward. Doesn't have to be big and fancy, certainly doesn't have to be "perfect" -- there is no such thing as perfect anyway. I know that your son's wedding is going to be one heck of a great time. Enjoy!

  20. the great thing about short notice for a wedding is less time to stress about trying to make things perfect. Go with the rhythm of the moment. Everything will be perfect or not as it is. I am in love with what is going on here. jeanne

  23. By now it will all be over and you'll be relaxing, and probably still on a high from all the excitement and happy memories, still so fresh. It all looked wonderful - those lovely flowers, the Persian rugs, etc. So glad you found something to wear you'll be happy in - Mary is a trooper though.

Remember a friend's story about her wedding outfit as mother of the groom. She spent six months choosing all the ingredients for her ensemble: the dress, the hat, the right shoes, the jewellery, the bag, even the stockings and the right coloured make-up. All absolutely perfect. It was carefully packed in a special bag to minimize creases. They flew from Sydney to Prague a few days before the wedding. The bag didn't arrive. Every day she was told by the airline it would be there the next day. It wasn't. Finally, the day before. she rushed out to the unfamiliar shops.

The wedding went off beautifully. The bag arrived the day after. She now loves telling this story.

Hope you didn't have too many last minute hitches! Even if there were one or two, I'm sure it will have been wonderful and you'll enjoy telling the stories later. Best wishes, Pammie

  24. I think it's wonderful that your son and future daughter-in-law are requesting a simple wedding put together with love by those close to them. So many weddings today seem to not only appear to break the bank, but have emphasis on the event instead of a celebration of the union between two people. I hope its fun and you can recover over the next week or so. :-)

  27. Having had two of my children married, the best advice I can offer is to stay in the moment. Take as many mental pictures as you can. Tap into the magic and joy. Enjoy the forever memories that are being made. Have a spectacular day!

    1. I'm uninvolved per se, yet touched at the 'extra mile' your reader, Mary, was willing to go for you. I have to admit, when I saw that comment at the time...I guess I've become somewhat jaded in today's world...a red flag went up, like maybe it was somebody pretending to be something they were not, with some other agenda, although I hate that in myself that I would feel suspicious or skeptical. Anyway, it just restores your faith, you know? That a person could be so kind! I love observing this here on your blog, Janet...reciprocal kindness and caring and generosity.

  32. I know it's all over now but love the last minute mother of groom wanting to get it right anxieties evoked here with such a truly heartwarming gesture from Mary willing to go out of her way to assist. Janet, when you get a minute to unwind and reflect you'll have many fans waiting to hear how it all went but please no hurries...this has been an ordeal so you've earned a reprieve,

  38. What a wonderfully generous offer from Mary but its no surprise, you're such a genuine and lovely person who wouldn't want to help you out?

  39. Janet,
You are the epitome of grace under pressure. Everyone needs a Mary in their corner. Random acts of kindness make the world better.
Marriages used to be simple like this and now they take a year to plan which is a little kooky. A dress. Some cake. A little champagne. Flowers. A bride - groom- family - friends.
    XO
