That is to say a lazy post. But it's been about a year since I've done an "outfit" post. And now I know why. I am a boring dresser. I wear the same thing day in and day out. I swear I have photos circa 1975 and I'm wearing the same thing. I found these old bell bottoms at the Goodwill for $6. The shoes for $12 and the bag (in perfect vintage condition) was $5.
This morning I read that love is a verb. I plan to put that into action this weekend.
Hello! Please walk those bell bottoms right on over to my house and help me with my wardrobe. It's a disaster really, if it's not gray, black or white and faded from 20 years, I won't wear it. Just looking at you inspires me. xo
ReplyDelete(and thanks for the sweet words on my last post ♥ )
That is my favourite outfit too! I swear mum and I wear the same clothes all the time.
ReplyDeleteLove Sarah's comment above.
Those bells take me back to high school! The 70's was fun--the bells, the peasant blouses, funky shoes. Is your top from Lands End? They do have great tees that have some shape to them and at a good price.
ReplyDeletethe tshirt is from old navy. :)
DeleteI've missed your 'outfit' posts. More please.
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing navy chinos and the same tee! Love to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteAlthough we have never met, I feel like I know you. I love your blog and your attitude. You are simple and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteBoring or not, you still look great!! Bell bottoms! Love them too!! Does anyone remember the ones they called elephant ears that were super "belled"? I miss your clothing posts, is nice to see them again.

I have a pair of those "elephant" bells, and every time I wear them, people comment on them! I love them for both the comfort and the retro feel. All my favorite jeans are thrifted. The best are the baggy men's levi's. Boyfriend jeans before their time...perfect with a white shirt of any kind and sandals, mocs, or espadrilles. Yeah, I think I just figured out my weekend uniform is quite similar to Janet's. Jeans, a white top, Dr. Scholl's and a boomstick. Done.
DeleteThe purse is too cute!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fresh to me xo
ReplyDeleteThat's signature style!!! Love it! I like your wardrobe posts also!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Janet, your outfit is classic. I really like your vintage purse - so cute.
ReplyDeleteI never grow tired of your driveway fashion show - just love it : )
Have a great day,
Julie
btw where do you get your hair done - do you mind passing a long that information (where and who)?
Many thanks xo
hi julie. i am in the process of finding a new hairdresser as mine has just moved to texas.
DeleteThanks Janet
DeleteWhat is better than a white tee and jeans for casual wear? I think you've got great style...
ReplyDeleteYour vintage handbag is adorable...
LOVE the handbag! Rattan and basket bags were de rigueur during the 50's and 60's. Tres chic! Janet!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, where is that Goodwill of yours? And why can't I ever find things like that at thrift stores near me? You are too gorgeous, I love the whole ensemble.
ReplyDeleteThat outfit is very stylish...not boring at all. You look very classy. :-)
ReplyDeleteObviously it's your uniform. Mine is very similar. You look great'
ReplyDeleteJanet - I LOVE your "uniform". Classic, just perfect. And, the fact that is was thrifted makes it even better. I think we all would love to see and hear more about your fashion choices. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteMary Ray - Birmingham, AL
love it. love the post.
ReplyDeleteann
Simple is best! You look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy Jo
I was just thinking that Janet hasn't done an outfit post in a while. and here it is. love it! it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteDarby
My mom had that same purse in the 70's, she kept all of her makeup in it. Great memories, love your style
ReplyDeleteLove this post. You look great. And, I am right there with you on a daily uniform of sorts. It took a long time to figure out what I like and is flattering. I think I was encouraged by you, in that department! I believe you have better thrift shops than I do. Especially love your purse!
ReplyDeleteI think you just know what you're comfortable wearing and what looks good on you. You gravitate towards it. I love your outfit. It's classic. And the purse is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLookin great Janet. I love finding vintage stuff that fits properly. Such a steal! Have a nice weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI love your boring outfits Janet. Some might say classic. We can always trust you to bring us the newest trends. There's been lots of supermodels in bellbottoms lately and now you, my lifestyle supermodel.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are singing my song Janet. I too wear the exact same things over and over ... and this outfit is so me. Hey, when something works, why change it?
ReplyDeleteLoooooooking gooooood, Girl. I have the same uniform. But, I have a feeling you are like me in that some days I roll the sleeves of my tee, or wear a chubby necklace, or wear no necklace and slim hoops. Or, I switch to a fun bag or a wicker bag with a scarf tied on, or tucked in and funky belt. Well, you get the picture. I feel the slightest tweaks make me feel like my outfit is different. It is, but still me! And, I really do feel like its okay to just be me. Love it! Thanks for the post. (Do you tripod your camera or does your DH take the shots?)
ReplyDeletea little of both. they come out clearer if larry takes them. :)
DeleteNot boring at all....Pure classic style !! Lovely, polished and pulled together !!
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous, like classic me! :D I mean like us all classic ladies.
ReplyDeleteI hate it that we don't have anything like Goodwill here in France. Consignment stores, which are actually very rare are very expensive too and the places that could be compared to charity shops do not have anything interesting. I really admire your sense of thrift and the fact that you come out openly with it. The French generally speaking want you to know that they paid top dollar for everything, which they do too .. xxx
ReplyDeletethanks SB :)
DeleteHi Janet. It is now 3 years i have been reading your blog and i would like to thank you for the inspiration and the influence. You have inspired me to simplify my life and lately i find myself leaning towards vegetarianism[not yet vegan].I am Greek and although in Greece there is plentiness of fruits and vegetables Greeks are mostly carnivores. However i am starting to have ethic problems eating meat and i would really like some advice for someone who really tries to transform her way of eatng.Could you recommend any books or net pages?thank you.Efi.
ReplyDeletehi efstathia! thank you so much and yes, on the bottom of my page you will see a list of plant powered resources for you! enjoy and let me know if i can help you further.
Deleteyou look great, but can we talk about those cute little red, white and blue flags.
ReplyDeleteI mean you look so patriotic, rocking white, blue and that bag.
pve
thanks patricia!
DeleteHope you exercised the love verb well this weekend! If it ain't broke then don't fix it, you look gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteGoodness - If I looked that good in an outfit, I would keep wearing it for 40 years too...
ReplyDeletethanks anon, you are sweet. :)
DeleteNot only a boring outfit but a boring post too.
ReplyDeletePose with this leg in front then specs off and pose with other leg in front. What was that for? "Ooh look at me! I can pose like this then pose like that and think people will fall at my feet swooning. Ooh look at all those silly sheep like people swooning over me!"
Millions of people wear jeans and t shirt there's nothing special about that! I'm wearing jeans and t shirt right now - ooh there must be something special about me too!
Get a life instead of thinking people are interested in your boring old poses.
I'm getting off here and going back to my life where I don't need to pose on a blog for adulation to feel good about myself.
This actually made me laugh out loud. Janet, I hope you enjoyed it too. I'm sure this anon has a fascinating and vivid life to "get back to". Nothing illustrates a life of fulfillment like expressing incoherent rage on the internet...under an anonymous guise.
ReplyDeletehi stephen andrew! i do find it fascinating. :)
DeleteWe have a very slim and fit neighbor who is in her early 70s and does her own gardening, donating what she would pay a gardener (and a gym?) to a charity. She ALWAYS wears an immaculate long sleeved white T-shirt tucked into belted light blue jeans during the day: gardening, walking, marketing.... It is her simplicity personified "uniform" and she looks terrific in it.
ReplyDeleteOh, Janet and Stephen, regarding the Anonymous "rant" above, it's more pathetic than fascinating to me. She does not feel at all good about herself and that is why she attacks others who are making good lives for themselves. I hope she can get a little counseling help to work out the internal rage she is experiencing. Let's not laugh at her.
ReplyDeleteI see your point. I'll say, though, I can't laugh at an inanimate identity. It was his/her words that I thought were so funny.
DeleteBut you're right, my being snarky isn't productive or necessary.
stephen, sometimes you just have to laugh. no worries, no harm done. x
DeleteLove those jeans! Gotta love a Goodwill score!

Janet, You will never know how much you have inspired me!! I love your style. Your house is beautiful. My husband and I recently downsized from 2700 sq ft to 1395. I think we are going to love it. I am stressing way more than I should about finishes and thought I would leave you this message/question. We are updating the interior doors to 6 panel cottage style doors and we are going to need new hinges and doorknobs. We will have chrome faucets in the small kitchen and bath. Light fixtures are antique brass in the master bedroom and spare room. I have always liked the look of the oil rubbed bronze knobs on the 6 panel doors but....like the brass for front door knobs. Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? What do you think? Again, you've inspired me in so many ways. I've also ditched A LOT of clothes! More to go!
ReplyDeleteoh mary that's a tough decison. my sis has a house with oil rubbed bronzed door knobs and hinges. all the faucets...everything in the house is oil rubbed bronze. it's quite beautiful and v cohesive. i really don't know how it'd look being mixed. esp in the bathrooms. maybe stephen andrew could weigh in, or others? that really is just a personal decision. i would prob want everything to match. i know i'm no help. sorry!
DeleteLove the outfit! I recently inherited a bag just like that from my grandmother...she had impeccable taste. :)
ReplyDeleteHurrah! for the vintage straw bag...you know I love them. I just "upgraded" the one I got from my grandmother with new straps so she is now in use for the summer. Enjoy yours!
