paint it black

Since I just finished painting the whole house in BM Simply White, I guess the next logical thing for me to do would be to paint the last unpainted room, black, right? You all know that my favorite colors are black and white so this made perfect sense to me. This is the only room that cannot be seen when entering the front door (except bathrooms.) I thought it would be a nice surprise and add a little drama. I will tell you that this has been the hardest room to photograph. It's tiny and now it's dark. The color reads gray in the photos but it is definitely black in person. I chose RL Mercer and had an ounce of black added. So what do you think?

We found the above old, enlarged aerial photo of Prospect Park, the area of Redlands that we live in, next to a dumpster on Christmas morning. Our small cottage is in the center of the photo!

  2. I.Love.it. It is amazing.... I want to run to Home Depot and get that swatch right now... I may have to paint my powder room or maybe my laundry room that color. Looks great!

  3. Love it, love it, love it! It doesn't come off as too dark in the photos at all. And your aerial photo...what a wonderful find!

  4. I like the elegance and crispness of your black room. I would not have thought of black for the walls but it works. How amazing to find the map with your cottage smack dab in the middle! That was meant to be, a great start to the New Year.

  5. Perfect reasoning... and it looks fantastic. Is the ceiling a color too? Can't tell if it's kind of taupey or just white photographing that way. One of the 2010 trend predictions on my current post is wallpapered ceilings. A cozy room like yours would be an ideal candidate. And why on earth would someone toss such a great map? Lucky for you it was left out to be found!

  10. It looks great Janet, so striking as others have mentioned. Even though the bed frame is black too, it really seems to stand out from the black walls and the drapes are beautiful!

  19. i really like the contrast in color from the ceiling to the floors. i really like the world map and little paintings on the walls and the old suit case on the bed looks really nice. im just not so sure about the black and white map. i think it would look better if the office was more 60's mad buisness men esq...? replace it with a large mirror with a dramatic frame...?either way the room looks great. just an opinion + suggestion ~blakely korfowski.
