paint it black
Since I just finished painting the whole house in BM Simply White, I guess the next logical thing for me to do would be to paint the last unpainted room, black, right? You all know that my favorite colors are black and white so this made perfect sense to me. This is the only room that cannot be seen when entering the front door (except bathrooms.) I thought it would be a nice surprise and add a little drama. I will tell you that this has been the hardest room to photograph. It's tiny and now it's dark. The color reads gray in the photos but it is definitely black in person. I chose RL Mercer and had an ounce of black added. So what do you think?

I.Love.it. It is amazing.... I want to run to Home Depot and get that swatch right now... I may have to paint my powder room or maybe my laundry room that color. Looks great!

Love it, love it, love it! It doesn't come off as too dark in the photos at all. And your aerial photo...what a wonderful find!
ReplyDeleteI like the elegance and crispness of your black room. I would not have thought of black for the walls but it works. How amazing to find the map with your cottage smack dab in the middle! That was meant to be, a great start to the New Year.
ReplyDeletePerfect reasoning... and it looks fantastic. Is the ceiling a color too? Can't tell if it's kind of taupey or just white photographing that way. One of the 2010 trend predictions on my current post is wallpapered ceilings. A cozy room like yours would be an ideal candidate. And why on earth would someone toss such a great map? Lucky for you it was left out to be found!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! The black is fantastic, way to do something different and dramatic! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Janet!
xo,
Crystal
Absolutely stunning - I think dark walls are great and yours look wonderful and highlight what you have hung on the walls so beautifully too... xx
ReplyDeleteJanet, As always, everything you do looks absolutely stunning. I love all the gold frames contrasting with the black walls - so elegant and timeless. Also, the map find is amazing - what a great find! AND love your black and white damask curtians...and the iron bed...it's all lovely! xoxoTrina
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it. Looks very inviting. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Janet, so striking as others have mentioned. Even though the bed frame is black too, it really seems to stand out from the black walls and the drapes are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. You have such beautiful things. That map is a total FIND! High 5.

ReplyDeleteOh I just love it!!! It looks elegant and tailored to perfection. And how fabulous that you found that map in the nick of time. I am contemplating some map art myself right now based upon a tract map I found in my closet the other day. Seeing yours gives me the inspiration to move forward. Let me say it one more time...I love this room!

What do I think? I think it looks absolutely fabulous. Clean. Classic. Modern in a classic sort of way. All those good things.

i really like the contrast in color from the ceiling to the floors. i really like the world map and little paintings on the walls and the old suit case on the bed looks really nice. im just not so sure about the black and white map. i think it would look better if the office was more 60's mad buisness men esq...? replace it with a large mirror with a dramatic frame...?either way the room looks great. just an opinion + suggestion ~blakely korfowski.
ReplyDeleteJanet, what a wonderful room! I love it all, and can not believe you found that fabulous photo with your house on it!!! Great find!
