what to wear on thanksgiving

Me-Too flats. So Comfortable for being on your feet all day.

Is it too early to discuss Thanksgiving Day Fashion?  I didn't think so.  I had an appointment on Tuesday that required me to pull myself together for the day and this is what I wore.  It was a long day and at the end I realized that this would be perfect for Thanksgiving day. This year we will be hosting and as all American's know it is a really really long day.  Dinner will be served outside like this again, so I gotta be comfy because of all the in and out.  So the other day I wore this $2 brown vintage floral blouse, remember when I bought it at that great Palm Springs estate sale?  

I wish I could link to beautiful vintage blouses that cost $2 but I can't. You have to dig through piles of crap to find them. But this gorgeous one at Ann Taylor Loft is on sale and I'd wear it in a minute with cute jeans. What are you wearing, will you be comfortable and is all that work worth it? x

maidenhair fern

Way back in May when Country Living came and shot the house, one of the best things they brought was this gorgeous maidenhair fern. Side note - I just found out my house will be in the April 2016 issue.  I've always loved these ferns but have never been able to keep one alive for more than a month.  I'm not sure what I did that killed them off so quickly besides over watering and putting them in the wrong location. Apparently I've got it figured out because this one is not only still alive but it's thriving.

One of the things you read about them is that they don't like to be moved around.  Well this one was put in the back seat of our car and driven 700 miles to northern Utah where it was met with several days of blizzard weather conditions.  I placed it in our bedroom which has eastern light and low and behold, it didn't die.  It went through quite a few extreme weather conditions while there and none of them bothered it.

We shoved it in the backseat again on the way back and then put it in its current location which gets mostly eastern light and OMG, it's still living.  So to keep one alive I'd...

1.  Place where it would get ample eastern light if at all possible.

2.  Water deeply just before it gets completely dry.  About once a week depending on weather conditions.  You want it to stay pretty evenly moist.  Not soggy and not dry.

So far that's all I've done to keep it alive.  Have you had any luck with them?  I'd love to know if you've fertilized or any other tips you've used to keep them alive.   x

hello again

I thought I'd share a few photos with you.  As I said in my last post about being busy, that is still happening.  My work situation has changed a bit and I'm getting situated in a new room and that takes time.  I'm pretty excited about my new assignment and I'll share more about that with you later.

settle down

I honestly cannot remember the last time I was this busy.  It's been almost 3 weeks since we've been back and I just now feel as if I can settle down a bit.  Getting the garden taken care of has been high on the list.  It did take a beating but to be honest it always does in the summer.  I'll try and get some photos this weekend.

Did you know we had a caretaker that actually stayed here?  We did and it was the best thing.  The gal who stayed here was a meticulous cleaner.  I've pretty much fallen in love with all the cleaning products she used.  The house sparkled and smelled so good when we walked in.  She also bought a mop and bucket, something I've never used here.  I've always just gotten down on my hands and knees, which now that I'm using this mop, I realize how ridiculous I've been.  Before this, I thought all mops were bulky and smelled, but this one dries out quickly and cleans so well.  So thank you for that Katie.

She also put Mrs. Myers Lavender hand soap in the bathrooms.  Smells soooo good.
And Mrs. Meyers Red Clover dish soap and all purpose cleaner in the kitchen.  The whole house smells heavenly.

Can I just say...I adore being home.  x
