grocery shopping - march

First week of March total $25.50.  I feel like I'm weighing in at Weight Watcher's.  We went out to dinner one of the nights for our anniversary at Caprice Cafe . It poured rain and reminded us of the day we married.  Whoever said that when it rains on your wedding day it's bad luck was dead wrong. We also had lunch in Hollywood with our kids one afternoon at Mendocino Farms.  Both outings were delicious and it was so nice that someone else did the dishes.  I suppose that is the best part of eating out.  Okay, okay what else?  Nothing, so have a delightful week. x

  7. Janet, Our 20th anniversary was last month (I commented previously and you congratulated me already!). We were married on a rainy day in Big Sur, CA. Since I love rain and fall and winter are my favorite seasons, I thought the rain was a blessing - it must be! We're still going strong :) Congrats, it is an accomplishment nonetheless according to the statistics on marriage and divorce ;)

  10. Happy Anniversary. It not only rained on our wedding day but there were thunderstorms and tornado warnings. We'll be married 34 years in June.

  11. It's raining receipts Janet~ Just today I copied a recipe for cold sesame noodles and I thought this looks like something Janet would like.
simple. scallions. tahini. rice vinegar. sesame oil. scallions. cucumbers chopped~ depending on preference and dietary constraints, one could add chicken or tofu. It's good either way.

  13. Haha i had always heard it was good luck to have rain on your wedding day...but maybe it's adapted by region. Chances are very good it will rain any day in Ohio March-December so that would mean a lot of cursed unions. Although, as I am around weddings constantly, you'd be surprised how many brides have zero back up plan for a rainy day!
Anyway...glad you had a very happy anniversary!

  14. First...Happy Anniversary! Congratulations on your long and happy marriage :)

Second...your grocery lists are so annoying to me since I seem to be incapable of spending less than $75 a week on just myself! I need to study your way a little more and get on board. I certainly could benefit from paying my damn mortgage down. I'm envious beyond belief! Thanks for the motivation, Janet! Hope you have a great week too. xo

  15. I'm jealous of your cheap groceries, lol. Mine are always upwards to $100 a week. I might be able to stretch that to almost 2 weeks :) Happy Anniversary,Janet!

  16. Happy 35th to you and Larry! You continue to inspire. I've heard rain on your wedding day is good luck. I just read elsewhere that writing down what you do toward your goal, has been proven to make things happen. Whilst you may grow weary sharing your grocery receipts, you are in fact making your mortgage goal happen! :)

Happy Anniversary. My husband and I were married almost 20 years ago during a tropical storm. I think that the more rain, the better the marriage!

The menus of both places look very tempting - would not mind trying one of those vegan sandwiches @ Mendocino Farms

  23. Happy Anniversary Janet! 35 years and still counting. :)

Even though we don't eat out much, it's still important to celebrate the special dates such as bdays and anniversaries. We usually splurge for those.

Mendocino Farms menu sounds good, maybe they will open one down my way!

  24. Got married on a rainy/snowy mix kind of day and still going strong four decades later! Just fixed your lasagna recipe for the second time in two weeks. First time, we had unexpected company for dinner (two non vegans) and they loved it as much as we did.....thanks for the recipe and Happy Anniversary! Janie

    1. Hi Janet,

I just love your blog, have for quite some time.

Congratulations on your 35th anniversary!!! YEAH!

I congratulate your shopping abilities; wherever one is in the world, one must get creative. I have just returned from New Zealand, one must be truly creative to live on a budget. The cost of living for day-to-day necessities is exorbitant. you are an inspiration.

      Thanks for all your input.
