Yesterday I was invited to a Downton Abbey tea party at my friend M's house.
I knew it was gonna be good because well you know, the woman can entertain.
I hope you enjoy the many photos (so hard to edit down to just these) and get a feel for just how pretty the day was.
Pretty people, every morsel of food was delicious and homemade, even those gorgeous pastry boxes, painstakingly made by M's niece Cheryl. You can see more of her work at her FB page, The Sugared Apron.. The whole afternoon was fun and pure charm.

Wow, wow, wow! Both you and Wendy have mesmerised me today, I really need to move and start a new life somewhere, there's too much excitement going on elsewhere!
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks incredible, such attention to detail - I am clapping now, well done gels!
Oh and the cameo cakes are exquisite.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous party! All of your friends look like movie stars.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! That looks like the most beautiful afternoon! ... like a movie set. Any pictures of you? :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a magical afternoon you had with your friends! Everything & everyone looks incredible! ox
ReplyDeleteGosh I really love an afternoon tea but to take it to the next level and get all dressed up in hats is pure bliss. Mother and I are hosting an afternoon tea today at her condo and I am dressing up a bit but nothing quite as elaborate as these gorgeous gals. Wish that you had added a picture of what you wore....perhaps you will in a future post.
ReplyDeleteLove this Janet! I so wish mine could have been outside - how wonderful! Now I think I need a fascinator... Your friends are beautiful and those cookies - wow!
ReplyDeleteThe food and guests look lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love this peek into the tea party. What fun to dress up in hats and flowers. Wendy just hosted a marvelous tea party too. It all looks so beautiful done and the ladies are lovely!! Sorry there's no picture of your gorgeousness here. I haven't been to a proper tea party for years. I hope they're coming back into style. Coffee just doesn't quite have the same feeling, does it? Thanks for sharing, Janet! Now I want to give a tea party too!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLook at all the beauties! Women and desserts! It looks like fun, and to do get together just the friends. xox.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Downton Abbey but could look at these photos all day! What a bevvy of beauties, exquisitely dressed with a table of food to match. xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat did you wear? Inquiring minds want to know! I'm sure it was fabulous...

i wore my long houndstooth check ralph lauren skirt with a white cotton camisole type blouse that I found at the GW for $1.99. I pinned a vintage silk flower arrangement onto a straw hat i had. i was going for a rl country house look. :)
DeleteThis post isn't complete without a picture of you dressed for the party too. :)
DeleteI agree BettyAnn! Would love to see.
DeleteSMH Who KNEW people lived such lovely lives and did such fun things? TY for the pics. Made this beautiful Sunday even more satisfying.

ReplyDeleteI bet you looked lovely too Janet! What a beautiful put together tea. I have to agree, all the women look beautiful - all ages. One of the younger girls is with a woman (whose lipstick color I love!) and I honestly cannot tell if they are mother and daughter or sister and sister. The younger girl looks like the daughter of a fellow blogger. It's really her twin (although she lives in PA)! I have to admit I am jealous of your weather. Everytime I see a sunny day my bones crave for the warmth - it's so cold here in New England. You gave me a beautiful respite from below zero temps and something to imagine and dream about. Janet, I've been writing about lipstick colors (professionally and on my blog) and was wondering, do you wear the bright colors? Any favs? I bet you look terrific in reds, berries, etc. Best to you...looking forward to hear how you are doing paying down your mortgage. I made two payments this month and gave up buying a new grill. I want to be debt free by retirement. Love, Donna
ReplyDeleteSo enjoying your column....any chance you'd also tell us what sunscreen you use on your face? I read earlier that you only use lipstick and mascara, I think. I would love to be able to lighten my makeup routine so am very much interested in your advice! Thanks so much......Janie
ReplyDeleteJanet, what a clever idea for a party! The women look beautiful and I agree they all have gorgeous skin. And those pastry boxes are adorable! Would have liked to have seen what you wore as well.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I started watching Downton Abbey just recently. Sort of going backwards but managed to check out the DVD from the library. We are almost through season 2 and did catch all of season 4 when it was on recently. Can't wait for it's return!

Oh what a fun time! Now this is a tea party.
ReplyDeleteMaggie
I'm not sure how missed this party; lovely ladies all in glam hats or very stylish ornamentation. I need to finangle my way onto M's A list.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect afternoon tea theme! I love it. And everyone looks stunning. Your photos are making me long for Spring and warm days.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, and fun, gathering! As if the green grass wasn't enough eye candy for this Michigander, there were cameos (which I don't think I could bear to eat ; ) Thanks for sharing. Paula W.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm late to the party, but just had to comment. I love afternoon tea, and this is my kind of tea party!
