summer stripes

Nothing says summer quite like stripes right?  Here is the Target top and shorts I told you about the other day.  I adore this top because it is 1. so soft 2. well made 3. not tight and 4. hides a world of sins.  To be honest I'm normally not much of a shorts person but these are just perfect, soft and well constructed.  I liked them so much I purchased another pair in chambray, which are even softer than the white ones!  I'll bore you with those tomorrow.  I could really use a haircut. x

  4. I adore this outfit on you and I think a striped shirt + an updo is so pretty. I've been wearing stripes almost every day this summer but I don't have any shorts- yet. I wish my Target hadn't closed because I'd go buy yours.
I know that feeling of wanting a haircut but yours looks so good up, it suits your beautiful face and bone structure.
Hope all is well you with you and the family XO

  5. Never met a stripe shirt I didn't love! Your hair does look good up. And tell me how do you make the corner of a bland townhouse look like an advert for Ralph Lauren? I keep going back to your cottage for calm and inspiration--you must miss it!

  15. So pretty Janet. I like the neckline on the top a lot too!
I agree with Frugal in France; you look like you would fit right in on the streets of Paris.
Your outfit also reminds me of Hostess of the Humble Bungalow.

  17. You're outfit looks great! I don't think I look good in shorts but it's so hot here in Texas I just wear them anyway .Every year I find a pair I like (which was Kohl's this year) and buy some in 3 or 4 colors and I'm set for the summer. My "dress up" outfit is capris because again it's so hot that I can't stand the thought of putting on pants this time of year.

  18. Love it. Love all the classic looks. They are my colors as well. Now...ahem....You told us a while ago that you were going to let your hair color go natural and that you had a few grays. At 51 and probably close to totally gray (if I ever quit coloring), I was so ready to follow your progress on this. What happened? Either you do not have much gray or I am just not seeing it or you are way younger than you said! Please share your secrets! LOL You look cute as a bug! Lor

  19. It makes me wonder why I never wear stripes because they always look so, I dunno, refined...like Cape Cod and summer money. Very noticeable in the past month or so, how striped tops (Breton is what they're sometimes called[?] or 'nautical' [?]) are being worn 'everywhere.' I had coincidentally JUST been reading about classic/timeless summer fashion, with stripes in tops and dresses, skirts & bags. There was a piece in gossip rag The Daily Mail about the royals' Kate, new mom of Princess Charlotte and adorable little George, wearing a striped top on her first casual outing, post baby...I had actually written some of it down for someone I know who looks awesome in stripes (like you do!): "What's the secret behind Kate's oh-so-svelte shape? Her blue-and-white Breton top. For, while sailor stripes may have become her trademark off-duty look...following fashion icons from Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe to Elle MacPherson and Alexa Chung...this is no ordinary cover-up. The marvel of Kate's nautical number lies not just in its flattering cut but also the fabric in half-cotton, half-Lyocell which is an innovative and eco-friendly material made from cellulose fiber and can work wonders for the figure. It's a surprisingly common textile colored and blended with silk, cotton or linen. Its appeal lies in the fact that it has a soft and silky feel. Strong and durable but not unlike a silk blouse, draping over the skin rather than clinging, with a smooth appearance which can be very flattering. Washable, lightweight and keeps its shape well; avoids looking transparent. The Duchess gets it right with the design of her top, with its open, boat-shaped neckline and three-quarter-length sleeves, carefully chosen to show off her best assets while drawing attention away from any problem areas she may be keen to hide. The wide neck plays down broad shoulders and shows off the collarbone. The sleeves end at just the right place, covering the upper arms while showing off toned forearms. Many people think horizontal stripes are a no-no but in Kate's white on navy, they are great at diverting the eye from areas like the stomach and back. Stripes travel well and don't show creases. A longer top falling further down the waistband allows bending, kneeling and sitting down without worrying about ride up. A striped top will look great teamed with skinny jeans and flats, or tucked into a pretty midi skirt."
