easy halloween decorating idea!

\

hello lovely friends.

the other day i was over at marina's beautiful blog, yummy mummy kitchen and saw these halloween pumpkins she had decorated for her kids.

i thought they were so cute and they had all the makings of a quick decorating project.
unlike some people i know i like my holiday decorating to be fast and easy.
remember i decorated my house for christmas in 10 minutes last year.

so i bought a pumpkin, went down into the basement to get my can of chalkboard paint, grabbed a can of black spray paint instead and spray painted the orange pumpkin black and while it was wet, sprinkled some silver glitter on it.

that's it.

i think a bunch of these grouped together or spread throughout the house would be gorgeous.
you could line em up and spray them in no time and have a kid come along behind you and sprinkle them with glitter.

be kind this weekend.
you don't even need a costume for that.

  1. However you paint it, the shape of a pumpkin is sublime.

Crazy 'bout your stripey porch floor, the porch color combo, the whole shebang

  2. Love your front porch - the painted floor is fantastic. I'm lazier than you about decorating for the holidays. Just bought some nicely shaped orange and white pumpkins and arranged them on the porch - not even going to carve them. Yes, Faux Fuchsia puts us all to shame.

  3. Very cute or should I saw spooky. As a lover of black and white, Iove a black pumpkin and your striped floor. Did you ever tell us about doing that?
I'm trying to convince Drew that we should carve all our pumpkins and then we can paint them gold or silver and bring them in the house as decorations for a little longer.

  6. I carved mine with a knife, is there a tool that makes getting the insides out a bit easier? One of these days I'm going to stab myself in the heart doing it.

  7. Wow, look at you! You're a trendsetter and stylemaker. It might even work for a goth Christmas decoration.

  8. Elegant pumpkins, very cool. I've been so lazy about decorating, but I've painted the front door yellow, I'm sure that doesn't count....

  12. What a great idea - although we don't in UK 'do' Halloween as much as in USA I have still joined in and done a very quick display of 3 little pumpkins in my white French china - maybe I will post a pic next week on the blog... And hope you get those boots from your previous post... (Ho, ho, ho - hint, hint, hint - Larry!) Have a great weekend - know I will - that lovely man of mine is coming over for nearly 2 whole weeks from Australia! S x

  13. Love your charming porch! My kids wish I would "extreme" decorate for Halloween but I am too simple for that. But this week, I was in our quaint downtown and noticed a storefront that had a wheelbarrow filled with leaves and a skeleton sticking out. I thought simple enough I have 2 out of 3 of these things. I am going to surprise the kids with it on our porch Halloween Eve when we make our jack o'laterns.

  14. Oh love this idea...
I'm being lazy and just bought a pumpkin for the porch.
Your porch looks like an oasis of calm.

  15. If you don't pain the pumpkin, it's even easier :)

  16. I never knew you were so crafty! or into glitter. :) I do love the look of a black pumpkin. I used to paint mine white until I realized there really was such a thing as a white pumpkin. Always late to the party....

  17. This year i bought a 'faux' pumpkin to use year after year and painted my monogram in black...added a black gingham ribbon...cute! You know us southern gals love us a monogram!

  18. Your porch and pumpkin look great. I have decorated a bit out on our front porch but unfortunately it seems we are in the path of a hurricane and now everyone is taking in objects that can be blown around and do damage. Even the flower pots fall over in high wind. Glad I didn't overdo the decorating!

    If only I had a porch! :-)

  20. I love this idea, and wish I'd seen it before Halloween! I will have to store the idea in my brain and try next year. Who knows where we'll be then, but at least it will be elegant and easy :)

    1. i am away from home at the moment but when i get back, i'll measure for you. i will tell you that whatever the measurements are, it's too small! it needs to be at least 3 ft wider!
