Saturday

Thank you all so much for the kind words and support of this blog. I'm pretty excited about it, amazing what a new logo can do to me. It's like a fresh coat of paint on an old tired room.  Also happy that none of you seem to mind the links. I'm just learning about all these things and I think they will wind up improving the blog in general.  So I much appreciate your input.

The cool nights we've been having suggest fall is around the corner so I've been trying on my jeans and they are tight...what. I'm gonna forget about that right now bc the change of seasons always excites me. Someone please give me a closet to clean out.

Whatever your plans this weekend, hope it's lovely.  xo

Also,

Is anyone watching Ozark?  It is SO good!

Also, also other good things...

My idea of the perfect vacation home although I could live there all year long.

What a moving address !!!

A jaw dropping Newport manse wouldn't mind living here either.

Bye.

  2. Hi Janet, I'm so happy to see that you'll be posting a bit more regularly (but still no pressure!). I was especially delighted that you posted the link to the Country Living, as I wasn't able to find it at the time.

  3. Happy that you decided to keep your blog and love the new design! If you really want a closet to clean you can come here any time! Fall is already in the air here in Maine and my pants hurt to, but all the Gelato I ate this summer was worth it!

  5. I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to read the address by the mayor of New Orleans.
    That. Was. Incredible.

  6. Love the Fire Island a-frame; so rustic but rich.

  7. I watched the entire first season of Ozark. It was riveting, creepy, and unbelievable all at once. What will the next season bring?! I am waiting "patiently" for new episodes.

  8. Kudos to Mayor Landrieu for his statement.

We are flying to Newport, Rhode Island this week to visit our daughter and her family and our son who live there. It's such a pretty city to visit, especially in the summer. Unfortunately, the middle class is disappearing in Newport. The summer "cottages" are amazing to see.

I love your new blog look!

  11. Bravo to the Mayor of New Orleans! It fills me with a sense that good will eventually prevail.

Ahh..autumn is just around the corner and here, in Upstate New York, it seems to arrive quite suddenly. One day you are thinking about leaving the pool open a few weeks longer and the next day you are breaking out the light-weight coats and long sleeve tees. I am looking forward to autumn this year. A trip is in the offing, and I like to clean and reorganize when the weather cools. Sort of like going back to school- a new start.

And if you could make a house call to clean out my closets, I would be eternally grateful. It's not the "clean" part that is difficult, but the decisions which leave me cold. I know I should get rid of half my wardrobe, but I've been unsuccessful in the past and still guilt-ridden for clearing out expensive, but unloved items. [Sigh!!!]

  12. A little confetti in the air! Love and best wishes with the new look. However at 77 years old I personally find it hard to read the blog now. Beauty and readability don’t have to cancel out each other. Bold and beautiful or at least, not lighter print, would appeal to me. Martha

  13. I couldn't get into Ozark but maybe I'll try again. I haven't been able to get into any shows lately except any good bad or ugly thing about Princess Diana. Does your photo choice in this post mean you want a dog? Hehe

  14. I've saved the mayor's live address after watching it the first time. Love seeing it in writing too.
He sums it up beautifully. I have Ozark in my queue and was debating if I wanted to watch it. I will now!

  15. Beautifully designed "new" blog, Janet. So happy you are continuing with style and panache! The New Orleans' mayor's speech was profound, uplifting and right up there in a caliber with the Gettysburg Address. Thank you for bringing it to our attention - or I would have missed it.

  17. Was riveted to the series that was more like a slow motion train wreck. I was fascinated by the characters and their rationale for going into business with criminals, thus becoming criminals. And I don't think that's unique today which is why this series may resonate with people. Love the blog and the new look!

We cut the cable 18 months ago and have never been more at peace. I would highly recommend it. Your perspective changes, you become less agitated and certainly less manipulated by the media. And certainly it shouldn't escape anyone's notice that the timing of all this melee is peculiar. Why now? Seems the Russian scare is no longer a priority. Poof- just like that. Curious.

  18. We watched Ozark in record time. Loved it, even if it was a bit intense. We live in Kansas City and vacation a lot at Lake of the Ozarks (my husband's mother and brother have places there) so we were extra interested in it. And Mayor Landrieu's address was amazing. Thank goodness for his leadership.

  19. Janet, would you please add a place to subscribe by email? I don't use any of the choices you have listed. I'm subscribed by email from the previous version of your blog, but I'm switching to a new email and I can't figure out how to sign up. Thank you so much. :)

  20. Hi Janet - here is a question - do you keep your yearbooks from high school? And your husbands? I'd love to know what you do with yearbooks, scrapbooks from years gone past if you have any? I have 12 year books between my husband and I . I also have 2 large scrapbooks made in high school with all the memories in it. THANKS, Janet! Love, Love your new blog lay out. I love everything about you! Jen

    1. thank you jen, you are sooooo sweet. i really do hope to answer a lot more of your specific questions. we don't have as many saved items as you do but we do have some yearbooks, scrapbooks and about 7 or so photo albums. i can tell you the photo albums are in the house bc i'd grab those in case of fire (if i had a chance) the rest are in the basement in one rubbermaid container. i have a container that holds those albums, one for christmas decor and one that has my brown toile drapes in them. i used to get crazy thinking this was too much but it has worked for me for 10 years so i guess it is good. i can walk in and get exactly what i need. and remember i have only one interior closet so i have to do this if i want to keep them.:)

  21. Thanks Janet -one follow up question - will you ever scan your photos so you don't have any albums to deal with? Or you like the albums? THANKS!

    1. i highly doubt i'll scan them because they don't take up that much room and i really do love to pull one out and sit and reminisce with a cup of tea or coffee. we did convert all our vhs tapes of the kids to dvd's and that was awesome. a big bulky mess is not just a few inches tall and so much easier to deal with. so maybe one day i would scan them but at this time i don't think so jen. xo
