wedding details

I thought I'd quickly fill you in on a few of the wedding details at this point.  So yes indeed it is #2 son, Alex who is marrying the beautiful Brittney.  Any woman who'd allow a Harley in her living room for a photo shoot is a keeper. :)

This wedding is happening in 11 days.  We've had zero time to prepare but I kind of like things to unfold that way.  I've catered lots and lots of weddings before but never a wedding of my own so this is different.  I've also counseled lots of brides and parents to try and relax and not sweat the numerous details, because in the end they never really matter, but here I am in the middle of it and I need to take my own advice.  So therefore a decision was made yesterday that I won't be doing the food. Yay! Now I can relax (ha) and just get the house and garden ready.

We are pretty sure the ceremony will take place in the yoga garden with B walking down an aisle of old Persian and Oriental rugs.  The meal will take place in the front garden and the carport is being turned into a dance floor.  We will have little food and drink stations throughout the garden.  There will be lots of strung lights and today Larry is working on getting the fountain running.

There is nothing like a party to get your house whipped into shape right?!  The inside will just get a regular dust and sweep and some fresh flowers.  I re-hung the brown toile drapes because B wants all soft fall colors.  Muted reds and faded oranges in the flower department.  Her dress is an antique crocheted chemise.  It all sounds lovely to me.  I promise to post tons of photos.  :)

  3. Oh I'm so glad you're not doing the food. Toooooooo stressful. It's stressful enough when it's your sole focus. Let alone when you have 28099 other things to work on. The wedding will be gorgeous and you'll be able to enjoy being the host. I can't wait to see the photos! Good luck!

The details so far sounds exquisite: the persian rugs? Antique chemise? Soft fall colours in the flowers... swooning here. Sending all best wishes and thoughts that all will flow towards the effect you're after: I think it will and very good decision to not do the food. Big hug and good luck!

I'm very curious because I've been playing around with the idea of suggesting the same thing for my daughter.

  30. On behalf of all brides out there who wanted this exact wedding (simple, fast, intimate, no large church and masses of people) I want to say thank you for doing this Janet!! My wedding was small with attendance, but big on all the traditional things I really did not want, but I did it to make others happy. This is my dream wedding. You are the best Janet! Very happy for A & B. Good luck and just have fun!

    1. thank you emily for such a lovely comment. you know B is choosing things that are somewhat traditional which is surprising me but so far i'm loving all her choices. i think there needs to be a certain amount of tradition in every wedding. i can't wait to see how it all turns out. x

  31. How special and romantic!! You're right, allowing a Harley in her living room is just one reason she's a keeper. Not doing the food will take so much pressure off you. It sounds simply idyllic. Can't wait to see the pictures. Congratulations Janet!! I was married in my apartment 35 years ago, with minimum notice and simple preparation but we had many traditional touches which I agree every wedding needs. I'm so happy for you!! xoxo

  35. It just all sounds so cool. Hip. The photo of them? When I first pulled up your blog, I thought it was a fashion photo from a magazine and then I realized it was your kids. Wow.

    1. Oh, duh, I should have read all the comments first because it IS a professional photo from a magazine. Now, at some point, do reveal how they wound up in a magazine although, obviously, they are a very attractive couple. Am I being too nosy? I seem to remember you had a son who was a fashion designer, no?

    2. i think this was a photo shoot for a japanese magazine. alex and B have a clothing company and the japanese are v big customers of theirs. but i'm really not sure if this was for something local or not. i will ask if i remember to! lol x
