This Pumpkin Chili will be one of the dishes served at the upcoming wedding.  It's good.

This is what I wore to a Halloween Party on Friday night.  In case you can't tell, I'm supposed to be Holly Golightly.  We almost didn't go because we procrastinated on our costumes and began to get lazy as the rain started to come down.  We were about 30 seconds away from putting our pajamas on and watching a movie. I'm glad we went because we had a lot of fun.

Larry put on an old Letterman sweater and rolled up his jeans and went as a guy in a Letterman sweater.

I hung out with Marge Simpson and some other great people like a Mr. James Bond and his date Pussy Galore.  Did you dress up?

  3. Your costumes were fun! Have I ever seen Larry full-face? You two are a great-looking couple. (Dullsville, here; hubby had to work and no trick or treaters due to threat of rain; oh, but how about that rain, wasn't it wonderful...my new, add-on porch room leaked like a sieve; good thing, while contractor still on site!)

Gonna try the chili with kale. I cannot develop a taste for raw kale; have tried and tried. Can only eat it if I mask the flavor, so chili seems like a good bet!

    1. Vicki, I'm with you. I think it's gross! But I cook with it often because it's so healthy and cheap. And doesn't wilt to nothing like spinach. What I do is make a solution of red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and a touch of sugar. I chiffonade the kale, massage the vinegar brine onto it very roughly (this exfoliates the kale and relaxes the fibers), prop up a colander in a big bowl (so the colander sits about 3 inches above the bottom bowl), cover with plastic wrap, and let sit over night. This pulls out some of that bitter, funky "kale" taste. Wring the kale the next morning to release even more liquid and cook. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's very easy. And makes a huge difference.

    3. have either of you tried kale in smoothies? it is virtually undetectable and a great way to get such a powerfully healing green into our diets. i just learned a new trick and that is to shove about 6 cups of the stuff into the blender first with some water. pulse until it is just thick green and watery and then add blueberries, bananas, cinnamon and your choice of sweetner. it's really good...i promise. lol

  5. You look adorable! I'm retired from Halloween. The last time I dressed up was 2010. I was the easy Risky Business oxford/briefs. Unfortunately I DO remember some of that night. Yikes. Pumpkin chili sounds good and kinda weird. I think I'll try it.

  6. Went trick or treating with the grandkids. Wore a headpiece of crazy hair because one child always points out that, in the morning, I have crazy hair. Had a wonderful time. Trick or treat with the grandkids in NY on Friday and then, out to Massachusetts on Saturday to have a Halloween party with the MA grandkids. Couldn't be better! Life is good.

  9. Oh you are so Holly and Hello Larry! I am so happy to finally "meet " you!
Mr. HB and I were snug in our hotel in the "big smoke"...Vancouver.
I had my PJ's on by 10:00 and we were watching the fireworks from the 10th floor...
it would be fun to get dressed up and go to a party.
I love that you resisited the urge to cocoon and put on your costumes and went to the party.

  10. What a great costume. I think you and hubby look great. I confess, this isn't my favorite holiday but I have occasionally dressed up for a party. We handed out candy to our cute little neighborhood goblins, ghosts and princesses.
    Enjoy your week.

  11. Hello Janet,
You look great ! (more "femme fatale" than scary). Never celebrated Halloween myself because it is not a big deal here in France. But the younger ones are definitely giving a go : Jokes, tricks, and funny clothes !
FYI, I live in Toulouse and I am French, so please forgive my English/American words !

  14. I love those fickle 30 seconds away from putting on pajamas but going out sometimes can be just the thing to life one's spirits. You look marvelous and so do Larry and Marge.

  16. made the chili tonight in preparation for a family visit tomorrow. of course I sampled and it is good. I was never really one to celebrate Halloween. when the kids were young I went trick or treating with them. and i do give out candy to the local kids. last year the animal shelter where i volunteer had a benefit Halloween party. i wasn't planning to come in costume but my daughter in law suggested i borrow her Wednesday Adams costume, long story short, i won for best costume. this year I dressed up again, Dorothy from Wizard of OZ. no prize but a fun night and we raised over $2000 for the animals.
