the calm...

I thought you might like to see a few snapshots of the calm before the storm.  Nothing special just a few pictures I took before guests started arriving. Actually guests were coming and Larry was still in his boxers!  We fixed that though. :)  I don't mean to drag all this out but I will be relying on other's photos of the day.  So once I get a few more I will post them.  I hope these will do for now.

No flowers inside.  Just an autumn candle burning.

Cake served off the tailgate of Alex's 1949 GMC

Flowers waiting to be placed on tables.  It took me 4 hours to put 8 centerpieces together.  My hat is off to all the florists of the world.

Vintage California flag as the theme of the wedding was Old California.  Tables topped in old ticking fabric

All the flowers were in different antique containers

We set up a "smoking garden" for all the smokers.  A crate of old Beacon blankets for the evening chill.  This turned out to be a popular spot that night.

The fun pictures will be up next!  Thanks to everyone who pitched in and helped pull this sweet event together in just 2 short weeks.  x

  1. Janet, it looks charming and relaxed, and probably reflects the bride and groom very well. Congratulations to all and especially on pulling it together so quickly, I'm looking forward to more pictures.

  2. Oh it looks so gorgeous!!!! A smoking garden! Love it. And I love the vintage flag! My god I can't even imagine how many times this wedding will be pinned. Smart move for a couple who have products that can be sold online! You did a fabulous job with the centerpieces. Love the cake out of the truck! And how perfect does the dining area look in your garden? Should I ever become possessed and get married (I believe in marriage, I don't believe in me in a marriage), I want your help!

  3. Congratulations! It's so beautiful and I'm loving the vintage-y homemade feel. And the wedding cake served on the vintage truck - great idea! Thank you for letting us peek into such a lovely and special day xx

  4. I love how personal and intimate the setting for the wedding is here in your garden. The unique touches of the truck, the carpets and the flag are charming.
I have done the flowers for four weddings including our son's and it took me an entire day to do the table arrangements, brides bouquets and boutonnières....it is rewarding but exhausting work...your flowers look gorgeous and I am hoping that you will have a few days to put your feet up and rest.
I am looking forward to more photos!
Congratulations on a beautiful event which you put together on short notice.

  8. Wow! Your arrangements were worth all the time they took. Beautiful.

And the cake truck, the rug runners.....the smoking den.

    Total perfection.

I was happy you tagged the bride and groom on IG, it was fun to check out their stylish world.

That apple didn't fall far from your tree.

So you wore vintage and Larry wore underwear? Trendsetters!!

I like that you kept it simple inside and left the flowers center stage outside. Your head must be still be in overdrive from the whirlwind of activities and emotions. 19. It all looks so delightful and such a refreshing change from those weddings that have cost thousands and are all to do with one-upmanship and precious little else. What a fantastic place to showcase and serve the cake from! Can't wait to see the rest of the pics.

Please remember while I am telling you this that I have done 100's of weddings, so if I say say it's perfect - it is! And Husband in his boxers is definitely memorable :) More pictures please.

  28. Looks so great! I love the theme. When I saw the title "the Calm" I assumed it was the calm after the storm, after the wedding, rather than before. Now, I'd love to see THOSE pictures!

  31. I can't imagine what a fun wedding it must have been! I would love to go to a wedding like Alex's!! Your floral arrangements were just stunning. The table settings were wonderful. His GMC truck, the old cottage...fantastic! You thought of everything; even a cozy smoker's area. When I look at these photos, I feel like I'm thumbing through a magazine feature. Where on earth did you get all of those floor rugs??!!
