fall

Fall has been in the air around here finally.  I've been able to wear this charming vintage sweater that I picked up at the flea market a few weeks back. Paired with this Everlane white t shirt, jeans and loafers makes for a pretty comfy outfit.  The t shirt runs big but are super soft so I'd size down unless you want a really drapey fit.

Believe it or not leaves do change here!

Been loving the cool mornings and evenings.  The light is so pretty this time of year.

We've been having major plumbing issues here. This is just one of many many holes that now dot my front garden. It's like the universe is conspiring against me painting the house this fall.

In happier news, it looks as if we will be hosting a fall wedding here!  I know.  I'm so excited.  Just look at some of these images I swiped from M's Pinterest Page...

 Wedding details coming soon...x

  3. Janet, we have very little of your color here, a ways north of you, so I've got autumn leaves envy. Not that we ever get much but, again, our canyons and hills are looking like colorless moonscapes. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos. Made me smile; so pretty. Always wonder what it would be like to have four defined seasons. I have friends in Michigan who are going to be snowed in on Halloween and others I know on Martha's Vineyard are slated for rain, although the weather folks are claiming we SoCal-ers might get some scant drops ourselves on Friday night; wishful thinking I fear. What d'ya wanna bet it hits the Central Coast only!

I love your sweater; is it a Dijon-mustardy color or is it bordering on chartreuse; it's lovely; you look really good as always. I want your looks and energy!

Hey, I notice something new in a lot of your photos; you've got a gate you're pulling across the entrance of your drive in the front, no? Is that a new thing or an old thing I just never noticed before.

Ugh; sorry about the plumbing. The old pipes can be so deep; I remember sometimes barely being able to see the tops of the helpers'--or my husband's--heads and you know they have to be careful when they dig those deep holes that it doesn't cave in on them. Or God forbid, hit a gas line, which my husband did and we were fined almost $2000 plus it was so embarrassing. We temporarily shut down the neighborhood. It seems to be a given with a vintage home so much of the time...old clay pipes that crack or disintegrate although ours were iron; I guess copper came later. Nothing seemed to be able to go up against our oak trees forever. TREE ROOTS; the price we pay for a shaded, gracious yard with old, established foliage. I've been there, dear. I miss my 90-years-young cottage SO MUCH but NOT its plumbing problems. It's such a large expense; always scary to confront when you're on a budget, and who isn't...

Your cheery cardigan is very flattering with your colouring. You know what looks great on you and always look so elegant even when dressed casually.
The fall colours have done wonders to elevate my mood. Things are looking up! Excited to hear about the wedding in your garden too.

  9. Such a lovely cardigan Janet, and I bet you got a really good deal on it, too! I have a couple of tees from Everlane, and agree that they are very soft. I'm so sorry to hear about your plumbing problems. I hope it all gets taken care of soon. Thank you for sharing all the beautiful images. Looking forward to hearing more about the upcoming wedding. :)

  10. A wedding! How super exciting is that! Yes please to all the details.
You are looking fabulous as ever and the plumbing issues, not a fun way to spend money, it's all hidden after all, but of course fairly devastating when not in working order. We had exploding sewage pipes and re-did all of it five years ago so I sympathize. I hope it gets sorted quickly and cheaply. xo

  12. A fall wedding! How wonderful! I envy your weather, but not your plumbing problems. About 10 years ago, we dug up the septic field and replaced the septic tank. Over $10,000 just to flush. ouch! Good luck with it! As always, you look so pretty!

  13. Are you going to have to cater this wedding too? I'm sure it'll be lovely. I wish geography didn't limit me from offering to loan china, crystal, and silver! A lot of the bigger collections don't get used much now that I'm not catering. I have a full set of Noritake "Arlington" (look it up!) that would be soooo pretty for a wedding in your garden! Will the house be painted for the wedding?

  15. A Fall wedding at your home would be wonderful. Love your ensemble. I am wearing a similar color in a sweater coat lots right now, and feeling seasonal! Sorry to hear plumbing woes. We dealt with a plumbing mess in a lovely old home we previously owned. It was a mess. But, it did get fixed. Not something I would desire to go through again! Enjoy the season! I do love all things Fall and Thanksgiving.

  16. Congratulations on the upcoming wedding...that is the best news. The fall color in your area is lovely. It's still feeling a lot like spring here, and no, I don't live in Australia. Sunny Southern California is doing what thousands move here for. I am a native and have always longed for a little seasonal change. :-)

  20. so exciting about the wedding! Fall weddings are so beautiful, my daughter's was several years ago , not at home but at a lovely old mansion. the morning had been rainy but then it cleared up just in time to hold the ceremony outdoors amid the autumn flowers. such happy memories. here in New York the colors finally seem to be hitting their stride. sorry about the plumbing issues but this too shall pass.

  23. Hi Janet,

    Glad to see you back!!

I am very interested to hear about the wedding you are hosting! I'm sure it will be beautiful, wondering if it's for a family member or friends?

Plumbing issues are the worst. We had a major problem a few years back, a huge tree root was blocking our sewer pipe. Couldn't use our toilets or showers. Luckily we found a plumber that came out that day and stayed until midnight and didn't charge us an arm and a leg to fix it. We even tipped him!

    Happy Fall!!
