organizing keys

my life was recently complicated by the addition of a backdoor key.
so now i had 2 keys that were almost identical.  what to do?

i used Fuschia nailpolish for the Front door key
and Blue nailpolish for the Back door key.
if you are young and hip (sadly i am neither) and have black nailpolish then you could make
black keys.
that would be cool.

i am not clever enough to have thought of this on my own.
i saw it somewhere a long time ago and i thought to myself how difficult life must be for some people to have 2 keys to deal with.  just kidding.
anyway that's just how exciting it is around here these days.

  1. I'm having the same problem......but I'm living so simply right now I have no nail polish. I'm thinking a little strip of tape would do the trick, just on one of them.

  2. I'm neither young or hip but I have a purple dark enough to pass for black. Problem is I have so many keys that I look like a janitor! Note to self...separate non essential keys off main key ring. Thanks for this evenings chore. Simple really is better :-).

  5. as soon as i get a back door key I'm going to do this...seriously, front and back door do not match and we don't even have any keys for the back door. You can even make keys look young and hip Janet!

  6. We have five doors that are locked. They all required a specific key. A locksmith came out and keyed them all alike. Now I have only one key on my ring with my car key. It wasn't very expensive and definitely worth it. I read/heard once that having a lot of keys hanging from your ring put strain on the "whatchamacallit" in your car's ignition and could cause damage eventually. I don't know if it's true or not. I like only having two keys. It's a simple thing, but it contributes to my peace of mind.

    1. Re-keying was my solution, too. The cost was not much, and the convenience was totally worth it!

    2. I have three doors and deadbolts all keyed the same. Only one key plus my car key. Love it!

  7. I am all keyed up, literally. Keys for my house, my mother's house, our daughter's house and two cars are on my keychain. Drives me nuts.

  9. I have 4 keys and they are all so different that I can recognize which one is which but i do like the idea of making them look pretty!
Your life sounds much more exciting than mine right now...
although I did PVR and watch Jack Black on Austin City Limits just to see what all the fuss was about. He's rather edgy and reminds me a bit of Johnny Depp.

  14. They look almost as stylish as you. AND, if you have turquoise nail polish around your house, I think you're pretty hip!

  16. Two keys? Goodness, I've got gate, backdoor, front door, car, other car... I use a label on mine. Now I have a use for some of the crazy color nail polishes I have. I tried an aqua and my husband thought I looked like a Chrysler. Now I'll put it on a key. There perfect.
