  6. LOVE Ralph Lauren too! and you wear him so well-! gosh the trees on the road leading to your house are marvelous!

At my age--over 55-- I love living my life the vegan way; and it's WAY BETTER than taking medications. Most of the people I know who are my age or older are on at least one Rx drug.

I eat plants & starches & fruits & grains only, not animals. 80% starches cooked PLAIN or with veg broth. 20% veggies and fruits. I eat ALL I DESIRE! And... no added oils. No added oils. NO ADDED OILS. Also, I love my pressure cooker. It's the cheapest way to eat from the supermarket, by a factor of 2 or 3.

*** MYTH: Meat makes us strong.

***NO. Actually, all of the beasts of burden are vegetarian. Since our bodies have to work a little harder to break down meat for its protein, it pulls strength from us to use energy to digest the meat.

***MYTH: Humans have evolved into meat eaters.

***NO. More likely, our bodies have adapted to what we eat. As survivors, we are like pigeons, roaches and rats. We will eat anything that doesn't kill us immediately.

All omnivorous and carnivorous animals eat their meat raw. When a lion kills an herbivore for food, it tears right into the stomach area to eat the organs that are filled with blood (nutrients). While eating the stomach, liver, intestine, etc., the lion laps the blood in the process of eating the dead animal's flesh. Even bears that are omnivores eat salmon raw. However, eating raw bloody meat disgusts us as humans. This is why we must cook it and season it to buffer the taste of the flesh.

If a deer is burned in a forest fire a carnivorous animal will NOT eat its flesh. Even circus lions have to be feed raw meat so that they will not starve to death. If humans were truly meant to eat meat then we would eat all of our meat raw and bloody. The thought of eating such meat makes one’s stomach turn. This is how we as humans were conditioned to believe that animal flesh is good for us and that we were meant to consume it for survival and health purposes. If we are true carnivores or omnivores we would eat animal flesh raw and bloody. Cooking our meat and seasoning it with salt, ketchup, mayo, mustard or tabasco sauce disguise the awful taste of flesh. This is the only way we as humans would eat meat because we refuse to eat it raw and bloody like real carnivores.

    1. Show me an animal with a Viking range, and maybe I'll agree with you. What a cuckoo you are.

    2. shell,

This was a lovely post from Janet. Your comment seems irrelevant & preachy.

Maybe you could start a blog and stop piggy-backing on this great blog? I read your comments during vegan month. Janet is kind to "feature you so often.

  21. Janet,
I wonder if Ralph knows just how much you love him. If not he needs to know.
I shall plant the seed - so he knows about you. (If he does not already!)

  22. You look wonderful! I am more than a little partial to RL myself.
Thank you for posting the month of veggie-licious food, it really helped me to see how easy going meatless could be. Until I gain more confidence in my ability to cook this way, I will be re-reading these posts. Is your husband a vegetarian as well? I am just wondering (if he isn't) do you cook your meal first and then add meat at the end for your husband?
I just can't get that statistic out of my mind: forgoing 1 pound of meat has more of an effect on the water supply than not taking a shower for 6 months. That is mind-boggling.

  23. Janet,

    You look lovely.
I really favor Ralph Lauren and have a couple of his dresses...that I found in thrift shops.

Once is a very elegant black floor length evening dress. Its very simple but has a U shaped dip in the back that's laced. Its stunning and classic. It needs to be hemmed but I love it so much I can't bear to leave it somewhere to be hemmed. I'm going to give it a try myself.

I have two RL silk equestrian print scarves and two leather mini-bags. RL's pieces are definitely a treat for me.
