the secret to a long and happy life

joshua tree last saturday morning

i saw this video on the beautiful blog raining sheep.
it is so soothing to watch that i just had to share it.

if you need your blood pressure to be lowered while at the same time being inspired, then i suggest you sit back and enjoy, it's only 4 minutes long.
i am utterly captivated by this woman's grace, beauty and way of life.

  2. Absolutely beautiful. I know that in yoga we are not supposed to compare our ability to other yoginis, but her movements are fluid and more graceful than those of many younger practitioners. Thank you for sharing this.

  4. Very inspiring...I too am captivated. Such grace and beauty and peace. Love the Joshua Tree picture. My daughter-in-law grew up in Twentynine Palms...the desert has such a unique, stark beauty especially in comparison to the lush, coastal beauty of Santa Barbara County, where I live. There is something about the desert though...

i have started a blog! i've only posted about 6 times now. i know daily
might not last. but right now am just doing what i do in my journals, only online.
and i am technically scared! i'm a tekki-illiterate. and i want to learn to do pictures!
it really is so much fun. and you feel such a sense of community. that's what i like.
i took pre-liberty in listing you as a favorite blog friend
(without asking first.) but i thought you being you, probably wouldn't mind!
i love your blog. it renews my soul.
if you care to visit my new toy ... it's http://peanutonthetable.com/

  9. Haven't even watched the video. Calm already increased by your photo:). I have a picture of myself, holding my baby son, in a similar spot. It was a cold, cold day, we are bundled up. Something about the desert clears a space.

    xoxo to you Janet.

  12. Thanks for this.
I'm from Queens, Long Island-and Fire Island was our destination many, many day as I grew up :) Great to see a slice of it in this film.

My daughter is also a dancer-and their relationship with their body/breath is second to none.
If we taught ballet/pilates/yoga in school along with reading and math, we'd all be better off in the long run. My yoga practice is still done in fits and starts, but it is progressing.

One "secret" to a long and happy life is being born to great parents who have amazing DNA :)
The rest is then up to the individual!

  17. Hi Janet -

I've been reading for some time but have never posted before. I love your blog and think you are delightful! Were you by any chance at the yoga/chanting festival that took place at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center this last weekend? I was there, and it was wonderful. Your picture got me thinking that perhaps you were there, too.

  20. Janet,
It's that busy time of day when kids are coming and going and I sat down with a cup of tea to see if you had a new post. Thank you for that four minute break...so peaceful... just as you look on that rock at Joshua Tree. Sometimes we all need a little reminder to take it a little slower...and of course be kind...as you often say.

  26. I love your J Tree photo. The high desert re-centers me like nowhere else. My life changed completely the first time I went to J Tree. Now I live very far away and am yearning to spend a week in a tent in the high desert, listening to the coyotes howl at night.

  32. I really needed to see this tonight. My life is busy and chaotic, and will be more so before it's less. We are trying so hard to simplify, but it will take work (preparing houses for sale) and money (paying for said preparations). I've bookmarked this video to use as a reminder of why we're doing all this, and what the goal is.

    Thanks for sharing.
