5 early warning signs of ovarian cancer

The most common signs include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, trouble eating or feeling full quickly, and urinary symptoms, such as the need to go urgently or frequently.  my friend melinda had all these symptoms in one weeks time.  she also had shortness of breath, which is what led her to urgent care.

read more about this silent killer...here.

melinda had a complete hysterectomy yesterday and is doing well.  she will begin chemo in about 2 weeks.

also, blogger is not allowing me to make comments on anyone's blogs which is frustrating.

  1. I lost my best friend Sharon to this a few years ago and just read about a British glamour model who died from it today - she was 43, my friend was 41. All I can do is sigh; best wishes to Melinda, we are all in this thing called life together.

  2. Hello Janet:
As we indicated in a recent post, we have lived with leukaemia for the past nine months or so and, whilst we have been told there is no cure, a present period of remission is the result of very successful treatment with chemotherapy. Of course it is not pleasant, and we feel so deeply for Melinda, but modern treatments are so much more advanced than even a few years ago.

Our best advice for Melinda, and youself, is not to think too far ahead, to take each day as it comes and try, as far as is possible, to focus on all that is positive.

You are both in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. I think the focus of women's cancers is often on breast cancer and ovarian takes a back seat. It is very important to get the word out about the symptoms. Thank you for doing this post....I already have an exam scheduled for later this week. I was thinking about postponing it because I have other stuff going on this week, but because of your friend and your post, I will keep it. It has to be a priority.

I'll be thinking of Melinda and her family and you during this difficult time.

  8. I lost two friends from it, when both were in their 40's. I hope and pray that treatment has improved since then and that they caught Melinda's cancer early. And I send you lots of oooxxxx because it is so hard to stand by and watch our friends go through this. And I send more oooxxxx because you're the kind of good friend she needs.

  30. Dear Janet, How thoughtful of you to post the early warning signs for ovarian cancer. I am glad to hear that Melinda is receiving very speedy treatment and wish her well.
Beautiful iris! Mine are being decapitated by a fearsome wind.
Having great trouble with my blogspot, cannot post pictures in Firefox and Safari will not let me sign in - oh, the frustration! My computer skills are limited and I'm not having much success at sorting things out. Hope things will get back to normal of their own accord very soon.
    Love, Rosemary.

  31. i have a sister-in-law who is receiving treatment for stage 4 cancer. she is now being given a "pill" as well as chemo. the pill apparently has amazing affects at the 11th hour. also, have you read about the research that found that cancer cells CANNOT survive in an alkaline host, whether it's your body or in the laboratory. there is so much hopeful information out there now, and people go into remission even if not 'cured.' she will remain in my thoughts and prayers. a cheerful heart, laughter and no meat protein are her very best allies, especially now! tj

  33. My mother died of ovarian cancer 21 years ago. The problem is, that by the time you have any symptoms the cancer is well advanced. When the cancer is well advanced, there's not much hope of a cure. Hopefully, the treatments have improved since my mom's death. You'd think they'd have some type of earlier detection method by now and more effective treatments but I am suspicious of big pharmaceutical companies who only want to make money, not find a cure. If people were cured of cancer, they wouldn't make a dime now would they?

  34. Very best wishes to Melinda.
Those symptoms are scary because as women we tend to put up with some of them regularly and believe oh well it's normal..must soldier on.

  38. Wishing you the fragrance of roses, the aroma of baking bread, the feel of laughter, the touch of soft fur: whatever can take you and Melissa out of your heads and thoughts and deliver you right into a moment. All love - vigorous, muscular, empowered, fearless - sent up the Appalachias, over the flats and prairies of the midwest, the ridges and mountains, fast approaching the western coast and swirling around the gardener's cottage to lay along the folds of your friendship. The meaning of it all is the connection you two have...
