new years resolution

My resolution for this new year is to have more fun.  That may sound simple, but for someone like me it is not.  I have allowed myself to get into a rut of work/worry and no play.  The last few years have been challenging for me emotionally and this year I really want to focus on the funner side of life.  I've raised my family and set them free to live their own lives and now it's time to get to know me again.  I give you exhibit A of my new project...

  3. Of course your choice of music jumped right out at me ;) Interesting selection. I've always thought of that as such a melancholy song, nothing I'd ever associate with fun. But the music is so pretty, I found it actually went nicely with the clean, snowy views in your video.

And such an excellent resolution! Can't wait to see more of your project :)

  8. Is there nothing you can't do! How does a California gal ski so well?
I agree totally with your new philosophy and I've actually tried to take that on board during this past year. I've reawakened my love of travel and plan to do as much of it as I can.
We'll both plan to have fun this year.

  10. Happy New Year, I'm all for fun. Let's both try to wear the world as a loose garment And maybe walk out the door leaving a crumb or two on the counter.

    I'll try if you will.

  19. Honey, believe me, have fun when the kiddos fly into the sky. Laugh. Do lots of laughing while you're busy having fun. And go ahead and drink coffee. Or tea. They've decided now it's good for you. They may change their minds next year!

  22. Good for you! I hope you do have lots of fun doing the things that you enjoy most.
I have taken a look through your blog, this is my first time here, and you have a very pretty house. I especially love your kitchen! It has evolved beautifully.
Your neighbors yellow house is so lovely, but it is a bit dark, eh? Made me wish she had left it white.
I will be back, all the best of fun to you in 2011~

  23. Janet...what a beautiful morning on the slopes. Blue skies, wide open trails and sunshine. Growing up in Colorado we always went skiing over New Years. I have to say you make skiing look fun and I agree...More fun is a wonderful New Year's resolution.

  30. Yeah Janet! I think that sounds fantastic - and you deserve to have fun. I'm going to add that to my list too. It will come in right after organizing the closets :)

Seeing you on the slopes made me want to get out there. I used to ski a lot and it's been probably 15 years since I've done it.

    Stay warm and have fun.

  37. I love your New Years Project! I also have spent a year doing the same and find myself thinking, "when am I going to let loose and live?" Well there's no time like the present! My husband is a skier and I want to learn so you have inspired me to do so. We may just head up to Big Bear or Mammoth next Friday. We live pretty close to Redlands. Thanks for your many posts. I read them with interest. You inspire me. Lisa

  38. I am holding up a glass to you and to fun. This notion of fun has slipped past all of us this last couple of years. Thanks for the reminder, I could use some. I am making a list.

  39. Your blog always has made me happy. But, I know we "worker-worriers" do on occasion get bogged down. I will be working along with you to reach for the bright moments that all too often get clouded over my our self-imposed tasks. I do believe you are off to a mighty splendid start. Happy New and Happy Year. Linda

  42. Fun is so under-rated for busy grownups. The great trick is finding the things you actually really find fun rather than the things you think should be fun/others find fun. Forced fun is rubbish! Great to see you getting into your resolution with gusto!! Wishing you fun and happiness in 2011, Belinda xx
ps I just went skiing after 18 years away from it - that was hilarious and not too pretty!

  47. hey Janet, fab post, I am SOOOOOO jealous of you skiing, is that near where you live??? And you look really good on skis too, why are you not sticking your bottom out tragically like I do?? If I could, I would go skiing every weekend! We are planning on going at Easter with the boys! Happy New year!!
